people work hard in general...and then money is taken out of our pockets through taxation, some of it's used for medical research and developement, some of it is used as grants for new medical equipment, some of it is used as grants and scholarships to train these doctors and nurses, and plus, at least in my area around 50% of the revenue that is flowing into the medical clinics and hospitals are from gov't programs like medicare and medicaid.

and quite frankly, if work=calories burned......I think I work harder than my doctor, or just gave up that small little clipboard that he used to have to carry around for a computer terminal in every examining room!!!

but, part of the reason why capitalism isn't working at the present time is the attitude of the people in my opinion. some people "work hard" and deserve the insane incomes, others is seems work even harder really, but their efforts just don't seem to make the grade and therefore society seems to think that they don't deserve crap!!!

when I was a kid, my doctor lived maybe three doors down from me, not in a mansion on the other side of town. His office was in his home, and every morning I would stop in on my way to school and pick up his daughter. well, every morning he was there asking me how I was doing, if I said I wasn't feeling well, well he would pull out his stethoscope and check me out, and sometimes later in the day, he would slip my mom some antibiotics or whatever....all for free! we were dirt poor and he knew it....so he was willing to give his services for free.....

when I became pregnant with my first child, my husband's employer didn't have an insurance plan. his boss was just a small, real small business owner in the asphalt business. he felt the responsibility of chipping in and paying a portion of the medical bills....

people used to feel a they had a social responsibility to their fellow man. now they just think of themselves....

no, neither me nor my husband spent four or more years going to college earning a degree. while my husband's classmates were in college he was in the service during the vietnam war, and when he got out he went to work, got into an appenticeship (where are those things now days??) and became a machinist....he worked hard and worked his way up to the title of journeyman tool and die maker! and both him and me have worked and paid taxes, which have been used to help alot of people get through four years of college and earn their degrees!!!

I've gone a good part of my life without health insurance and thus, without adequate healthcare!!!
today, every now and then I read news articles about the machines shops moaning and groaning that they don't have the skilled workers, one even claimed that your typical machinist can earn up to 70-80 thousand dollars, a hundred thousand with overtime!!! my husband has been in the business most of his life, and we've always been riding in that gap between too poor to live and too rich to get gov't assistance, so sorry, we didn't work hard enough, plan enough, live without!!! where't the apprenticeship programs today to train those machinists?? and well, where's those big wages? I printed a copy of that article told my husband that he should take it to work, so him and his boss could get a good laugh out of it...and then he could send a resume to the businesses that were whining in it, since it gave the name and location of them, and put in it that he expected a yearly income of 80 thousand!!
so, I imagine that soon, you will see them importing machinists from far away lands, to fill their gap in the labor market of trained machinists...because we all know that these business owners work real hard and shouldn't have to endure the inconvenience of actually having to train someone to replace the aging population that will soon be retiring!!

there is no morals in this country, their is no social responsibility, there is just a feeling of greed and entitlement, and not just with the "poor", the rich seem to think they are entitled to a heck of alot more than just a little help with their healthcare, a roof over their head, and some food on their tables....
they want standing armies to protect their interests overseas, they want tax breaks out the arse, they want grants and subsidies, they want their employees trained and ready, and they deserve it all, because....well...
they worked so hard!!!

some of these hard working people are so fat they would probably die the first day at my job!!!

Actually it works great according to, you know, Canadians. But what do they know?

They are flying down here to the USA for surgery. -- Medical Tourism --

And Americans are flying down to Cuba and over to Germany, etc.

Americans are flying down to Cuba for medical treatment?

Thanks. I needed a good laugh.

People fly to America from all over the world to gain access to our superior medical

technology. I think Johns Hopkins is the best.

Do you just have to write the acronym SCOTUS in every post or what? It's a little weird.

I live in the state with the worst healthcare in the country- the very last. 50th out of 50.

(A dyed in the wool RED state)

I am currently going back to school to become a doctor after having served my fellow Americans as a teacher in public schools for the last decade.

People here line up and wait up to ten hours to get into free clinic days. And these are working people, for those of you shouting 'welfare queens!'
'Obamacare' as it is so affectionately called, is not perfect, but at least it's a start.

I am very excited about returning to school to become a doctor and help our President make access to healthcare universal.

Ironic how Republicans had no problem spending 87 Billion a month in Iraq, yet are so concerned about getting fiscally responsible now that there is a Democrat trying to provide healthcare to children.

No profit in that, huh?

Up in Canada they have the coveted Public Option.

They have to wait for hours up there also. Sometimes they are told they can have

heart surgery but will have to wait 9 months to get it.

That's when they pick up the phone and call one of the 15 Medical Tourism companies.

Hello, Texas? Help!!!

yes, our taxes has helped build one great healthcare system, top class technology there...
too bad so many of us can't afford to take advantage of it!!!

wonder if so many will be so supportive of it when we are still paying taxes propping it up and only the rich from here and abroad can afford it...

When ObamaCare is flushed down the toilet in June, you will hear about

private sector alternatives that will give you options.

Choice is a good thing. Don't be so quick to surrender your freedom.

I'm not really a fan of obamacare....
but hey the house just voted to repeal a part of it....
no, not the mandate that we all take part in that ponzi scheme called health insurance, that was a republican idea I believe before it was a democrat one.....that will probably be the only part of it that survives...
but they did pass a law that done away with the committee that was to be tasked with the job of keeping medicare costs down....ya know...those so called "death panels" which more than like would have only had decided on the death of some of the profits enjoyed by the healthcare providers.....

I won't hold my breath for those "private sector" alternatives....
more than likely, they will be designed to put more money into the pockets of people who already have so much money that they could live 5 lifetimes on and not go broke, and more of that money will come out of my paycheck in the form of taxes and insurance premiums, while the coverage of that insurance will get worse and worse.....

just recently, a nice sum of gov't money was given to fund a coalition between one of the big healthcare providers in the area and one of the colleges.....for a nice medical training school....my tax money at work, I've also read about grants for new machines, there's special gov't grants for those who want to attend medical school....and on and on...and that not to mention the money that is given so the poor people they find worthy of the services can have them!!!

so, well, the idea that I didn't work hard enough, or didn't plan good enough so I can do without the medical care well...kind of rubs me the wrong way.....I worked hard enough for them to take my money so the neighbor down the street could take her kid in and make sure the runny nose wouldn't kill her!! by the way, she isn't really working much at all...heck, the kid runs the streets while she's in her nice home watching tv!!!

freedom isn't worth a dang if you are laying in a bed with a broken ankle and no one wants to treat it, because you are too rich to get any help and too poor to afford the health insurance let alone the cost of setting it!!! heck, even then wasn't free from the taxes that drives just about every aspect of our great healthcare system!

What ever happened to self reliance?

I don't think you would have made a good pioneer.

and you would???
sorry, but the city doesn't allow me to have chickens, cows, and such, and my yard is really too small to grow crops....
and well, the ankle I broke is now being help together with pins and plates!! if it wasn't for a gov't official calling the surgeon and getting on his case about denying me care....I WOULD NOT BE WALKING!!!
and then how self reliant do you think I would have been!!!!

it's simple...stop taking money from my paycheck to pay for the poor, stop taking money out of it to help kids get through college, stop taking money out of it to build new hospitals, buy new equipment, ect.....
or find a way so all the taxpayers can enjoy the service!!
but don't sit there and tell any of the taxpayers that oh, you just didn't work hard enough, you didn't save good enough, you didn't plan!! and then take money from them to give to some one who hasn't worked a day in their lives, let their kids roam the streets and sits their arse in front of the tv most of the day!@!!

oh, and reckon, just how many of those pioneer doctors were making six figure incomes???
most were lucky if they a chicken for their supper I bet!

Its funny how a lot of people on ATS claim to love their fellow man but, due the rampant hypocrisy on ATS, will refuse to pay a small amount of taxes for universal health care.

"Socialism!" They scream as if that somehow makes it bad. Or "Its your own fault!" they insist, as if they never had any help fixing their mistakes.

Its sad to see so much hypocrisy, but it is expected. Do not worry, my friends. Even though you would never help me, if the time came where it was necessary to do so for you, I would. : )

When you are old and have sickness and when you are denied health care, it will be my liberal "socialist" programs that keep you alive. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Individuality.
Self-determination.

Or

Your "collective".

It's funny that you ask for just a little money so you can get what you want. When all you had to do was work, plan ahead, and you would have had it anyway, without our "little bit" that you ask for.

WTF are you talking about?! Most people live paycheck to paycheck nowadays. How can anyone plan ahead if any eventuality such as one of your kids breaking an arm can be a literal economic catastrophy? Wait, I get it now, since YOU have it made then everyone can go to hell? I have seen you defend the banksters, illegal wars plus their motives and funding yet ANYTHING that benefits the struggling class in any way is an abomination to your eyes. I'll have you know that all those trillions given to the pentagon, cia and dea plus trillions more given freely to wall street and the banks come from TAXES. Most taxes are paid by the working class and even the poor pay them through sales tax that is attached to anything they purchase. These taxes are to be used for the well being and benefit of the PEOPLE and not just the elite (if they can still be considered people by their inhuman actions) which you so proudly support and defend.

Universal healthcare for everyone, dammit!

Turns out Obamacare will end up saving more money than thought...plus, millions of people who would have received no care before will be helped. If you were a true patriot, you'd care about your fellow citizens...clearly you're not. There's a lot of Obama policies I disagree on, and health care isn't perfect (no public option, that's what's bad!), but your accusations are laughable.

As for being a patriot, the Constitutions concerns me the most for the Citizens. As a Christian, I care for my fellow man.
Not sure were you get the info that Obummercare is saving anything. The articles I have read the past two weeks all state otherwise.

In 2008, Barack Obama promised his health-care plan would bring down premiums "by $2,500 for the typical family." But according to a study from the Kaiser Family Foundation, the average cost for a family's insurance policy increased 9 percent just last year. By 2016, average family premiums will increase by $2,100 as a result of Obamacare, says the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. It gets worse. A recent study published in the Annals of Family Medicine found that by 2021, the average cost of a family's insurance premium will be equal to half of median household income. By 2033, premiums will exceed it. That's unsustainable.

Meanwhile, government spending on health care and Social Security will outpace nominal GDP growth over the next 10 years. In other words, health costs are growing faster than our economy. Medicaid spending will double by 2022, the same year the national debt will reach $25.9 trillion under Obama's budget. While we pay more for health care, we will get less in return. According to the CBO, as many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-based insurance thanks to Obamacare

orlandosentinel

But a McKinsey & Co. study in June 2011 showed that 30%-50% of employers plan to stop offering health insurance to their employees once the health law is implemented in 2014

This is from the WallStreet Journal and it sounds like your own options will limited

Great info! When ObamaCare is flushed then a big dark cloud will be removed.

Right now Americas Fortune 500 are staring up at that dark cloud and just waiting for it

to go away.

ObamaCare has introduced uncertainty into our economy.

and the mess that bush and the bankers left the world in has brought more uncertainty to not only the businesses but everybody's lives than obamacare could have ever done!!!

how can you tell which is the effect of the scam that was pulled off, and which was the effect of obamacare???

right now, my shop is having a problem getting it's felt shipped in from overseas.....and that seems to be our biggest uncertainty.
don't see where obamacare could have effected that one at all...
but the homeland security crap, the economic meltdown of europe (where the felt comes from) ...well, ya, I could see where that just might be an interference with our shipments!!!

and like I said.....are you sure that the health insurance companies weren't like that life insurance company that went belly up in my state because, well they put their eggs in the wrong basket and got burned when it was found out that all those mortgage backed securities that were peddled the world over were filled with fraud???
and well obamacare is just another word that means BAILOUT???

Blaming Bush doesn't work anymore.

Obama has had 3 years and only made everything worse.

He can't run on his record. His time is short. - 7 months to go - tick tock tick tock -

well, just how much uncertainty is from obamacare, and how much of it is from the fact that the world economy was just about totaled just before bush left office... we the world is still not recovering much from it???

if you totaled car, and then gave it to your wife to use......would you then gripe at her a year or so down the line because the car is there pretty much totaled??? I mean, it's totaled!!! there is no fixing it!!!
our economy isn't any more fixable than that totaled car!!!

any uncertainty that obamacare has introduced into the market is greatly overshadowed by the uncertainty that is already there!!

ya, know, with all the griping about obamacare, about social security, about medicare.....ect...
it's kind of interesting to note, that some of those programs are the result of depression that was caused the last time wall street and friends were left to run wild in their speculations and wiped out everyone's wealth in the process. if it wasn't for those programs, the world war two vets would have came home to destitute parents who would have needed their financial help the rest of their lives...and hence our lives would have been much, much different today! in a very bad way!!
so now, well, we are back in the same spot, for much the same reason, banks and wall street left to run wild on speculations that brought down our economy and wiped out much of the wealth many of us had..invested in our homes, invested in stocks, in iras, and
let's not talk about the pathetic returns we have been getting over the last past couple of decades from your typical savings accounts!! and ya, people want to pull those programs.......lol....

got a news flash for ya....
there isn't gonna be any obamacare, or social security probably, or college grants or scholarships, or much of anything else... more news....the election is rigged, and well, it's possible that there will be no election at all really and the imf and bankers will just move in and replace all our leaders with muppets from goldman saches like has happened in many european countries!!!
who will bring "austerity" to our nation.....

and neither obama or romney will have the balls to stop them if they wanted to, which they don't because heck....they are making tons of money, they aren't feeling the pain of austerity, so why not!! I mean, they've worked so hard, their banking friends worked so hard......they deserve it all!! not a few mere million, not 6 or 7 mansions...they deserve everything, including you and me kissing their feet for the crumbs off the table...

It's hard for a large corporation or a small company to make a business plan

if they do not know the costs.

ObamaCare has introduced - paralysis - into our economy.

-----------
The great news is that when a capitalist moves into the White House January 2013

and simply reverses everything Obama has done, then the unemployment

rate will mysteriously drop down to less than 5%.
