Fire and forget anti ship missiles are also caried by these fast boats....
The fast rocket torpedo the Shkvaal was sold to iran by russia ....
There are some formidable anti ship weapons that can be fired from twenty miles away...(making land launch another very real possibility...
Suppose the fast boats come screwing around for an hour or two, and then a swarm of missiles get launched from land as well as torpedoes from the fast boats.....These could be towed in an already launched position behind the fast boats and they will find their own targets when fired too....
I think they do 280 mph so they could be as low as 4 sec from tube to target...impossible to track and down in large numbers at that range....
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\again what the hay is the coast guard doing in the gulf???
I am wondering if the other ship was loaded with marines too....
Sinking such a ship would be a great loss to the US no matter what....
Those who call for war have no idea what they are calling down onto American service men......or the rest of us....

For those questioning what the Coast Guard cutter Adak was doing there, according to Wikipedia it has been stationed in the Persian Gulf since 2003 for the purposes of shallow water patrols, because apparently the Navy doesn't have vessels with a shallow enough draft to get as close to the shore as they want. It's been there so long that it is called "The Grizzly of the Gulf". In this context it makes perfect sense that it would run across an Iranian patrol.

I don't get the AK's though. I can see no context in which those would be useful

All Iran needed to do was launch a few of those flying boats they have and the US would have crapped themselves. Those flying boats are the heat bo!!!!!

Is it a plane? Is it a boat? Hmmmm

Anybody know what kind of heat and radar signatures those things have? If they are low I could imagine them being somewhat useful in similar ways as our UAVs

Have you seen them? Google it. Who needs heat and radar with the noise they make LMAO.

I've done eight Gulf deployments. The Iranians have always done that with fast boats or their PTG's whenever we were transiting the SOH and during operations in the Gulf itself. It's really not unusual. Occasionally the Omani Navy would hail us as well or check us out.

One time we had to escort a civilian ship thru the SOH that could only go 10 knots. The Iranians had boats all around us during that evolution. Our normal speed going thru the SOH was 20+ knots.

I wonder what kind of restraining order the US ships would need to keep the Iranian speed boats more than 500yards away.? and armed with Video cameras!! how dare they!

Musta forgot the part where they said they also had AK-47s. That's OK, tho.

I picture a dozen Virginia farmboys in Bayliners with towels on their heads.

Those high speed fishing boats MAY look harmless, but one rocket into the side of a US Aircraft Carrier could possibly sink the thing..

I don't think a US ACC can engage 50 Iranian boats at once?

BTW, if these Iranian boats were in the Atlantic off the US coast then YES, it would be provocation..
but god-damn, you have US MILITARY off THEIR coast.

Who is harassing who? Please think about that carefully.

I will usually peruse most of the posts before I post a comment, but this time from the first two "pages" it just got more bizarre, no make it f****** crazy with even more then the usual anti-American crap then normal, and that says A LOT. And of course someone had to say it was the Jews, aren't they responsible for every thing including bad weather, pattern baldness and tooth decay? This is just insane. Anyone recall the USS Cole? A small boat went right up to an American ship and blew a hole in it killing (I think 19, could be off on numbers but was certainly not 1or2.) Iran would like nothing better then the US or ANYONE frankly to get in a war with them.

Wars have a tendency to hyper-nationalize a population and the more extreme the system the more likely it is to have the people people goose stepping in sync w/who ever is in dire need of keeping a lid on it, or distracting people from "fill in the blank here" Wars also polarize a people and dictatorships that are falling apart and extreme impoverished countries more then others find them a useful distraction. "Impoverished" can mean much more then a lack of necessities to live (for a good look at old fashioned starvation check out North Korea where people have crawled into China realizing that the human body can"t digest grass well...)

Why do you think there has been an "Arab Spring"? Not because of cabin fever...

And it's the MSM, no doubt controlled by Zionists, I mean don't they rule the world? Thats why Iran appears to be run by lunatics and those who bastardize religion for their own ends. Power. Dress it up anyway you want. Given what the people of Iran are like, like most of us on the planet, pretty decent. Iran, given its Persian roots is an ancient culture in the extreme, ("culture" being more a reference from a historic perspective, and "society" more-or-less a term that is reference to a populations mind-set and organization today) Iran has a well educated population that would no doubt love to if given a chance actually not have to live under a worse system then the old east German Stasi. Christ even in those good old days in East Germany, you know where it appears (after the wall went down, and records were opened-up) every other person was an informer. At least you didn't get your hand amputated for stealing, murdered for belonging to a religion thought of as infidel, or be murdered (if lucky just given 100 lashes) for adultery, or the same for a women who had the immorality to be raped. Or being jailed at the least for almost anything.

Oh, did I mention Iran had so-called elections and just like the ex-soviet Union try voting when ballots identify who cast them, or someone just looks over your shoulder seeing full well you vote "in accordance with God". I know it's all an illusion, this Iran bashing. Is some Zionist-American plot to destroy the "Islamic Republic". Christ can you say oxymoron? And to compare this to the "Gulf of Tonkin"? Who needs a lesson in history now...

As for boats or ships playing chicken with ours or any other nation I hope if need be we would be able to use non-lethal technology that can strongly "persuade" you to take your boat and go else where. If not and we have NO CHOICE, blow them out of the water. I do hope it won't come to that. It's not up to big bad USA, oh yeah who are of course controlled by the Jews... And no doubt the fact the US rescued in recent days one hijacked ship and Iranian crew, and rescued another crew from a boat that was sinking. No doubt staged, you know like some of you think the moon landings were?

Nowadays just have to invert the headline,

to get the real story. Ie,

US concerned over WOMDs in Mideast = USA will use WOMDs in Mideast (which it did)

Same old....

I don't think you are qualified to make that assumption.....

I am getting sick of all of the american bashing lately.......(not necessarily from you, just in genral)

This seems to be the topic of the month around here...................

People are really kidding themselves if they think Iran has a chance of defeating the U.S.............There is a reason why we have a trillion dollar a year(give or take a few hundred million dollars) budget...........half of it probably has Irans name on it waiting to be launched......

But I do not know that for a fact, I am also not qualified to make those assumptions......

Sounds like their using 'ole relible'

Gulf of Tonkin Attack

Attack of innocent US boats minding their own business.

50 years on and the morons still don't have the good sense to make something new up, probably thinking "well, it worked the last time"
The bastards used "operation northwood" on 9/11, now they'll use the Tonkin scam again.

Someone should send them a copy of Wiley Coyote's "The Acme Big Book Of Causus Bellis (1001 false flags to start a fight)" for their birthday.

Those little boats would be great for target practice.

We used to set up the guns on our attack tender and sink trash bags.

But this would be way more fun.

when armed iranian speed boats are zipping by the hudson river, then i would call it harassment.

but it's the u.s. that's placing battleships in the middle of their territorial waters less than 20 miles from their shore.

WASHINGTON — The latest round of American sanctions are aimed at shutting down Iran’s central bank, a senior U.S. official said Thursday, spelling out that intention directly for the first time. “We do need to close down the Central Bank of Iran (CBI),” the official told reporters on condition of anonymity, while adding that the United States is moving quickly to implement the sanctions, signed into law last month. The sanctions, broadly aimed at forcing Tehran to shift course on its nuclear program, targeted Iran’s crucial oil sector and required foreign firms to make a choice between doing business with Iran or the United States. Foreign central banks that deal with the Iranian central bank on oil transactions could also face similar restrictions under the new law, which has sparked fears of damage to U.S. ties with nations like Russia and China.

This is all you need to know about what's happening with regard to Iran. Surprising that someone is prepared to admit it.

Translation: Those people won't join in with our IMF-World Bank-Federal Reserve-Bank of England control system that allows us to dominate every country and use their economy for our own selfish purposes. Therefore, they will be punished.

Just so you're aware, the Central Bank of Iran is one of the few central banks in the world that issues debt free currency.
