I think today's Mag 8.6 Mww (not sure what the "second w" denotes) is the largest oceanic intraplate earthquake recorded. I can't seem to find any articles or data to the contrary. There was a Magnitude 8.2 Mw near the Balleny Islands on 25 March 1998 which seems to have been the previous record holder.
We have to wait to get the final magnitude verdict on this most recent quake, but it seems it is a rare event.

West coast from Alaska all the way down to the tip of South America is in danger of a Massive Quake any time soon.
Meaning with in this week or sooner.

Here in Los Angeles the seismic cam is reading small rumbling.

Is it me or does it look like the area from the Gulf of Mexico all the way down to Panama is having some sort of stress build up?

No not really. It is a big release.

Though I predicted a 7+ for the time period, I certainly didn't conceive that an 8+ was in the offing!

Still a good call.

On the other hand have been saying we could get a megaquake 8.5ish this year as the final gasp of the cycle.

The total energy of the 8,2 and 8.6 is the equivalent of an 8.665

Does this mean there will be no more in the 8+ this year? I believe if does purely on gut instinct of course and please note I am a total failure at gambling!!

no I ment is the pressure building up on the west coast for an eventual big release as well?

5.9 just off the coast of western washington I don't know how to post the usgs on it. In Vancouver right on the water at the office felt nothing this far north but to me seems like we are working towards something bigger. Hope I'm wrong but someone who knows more than me fill us in could this be a pre-curser???

5.3 a few minutes later everytime I refresh USGS.gov seems a new one popping up off the coast ewww weee I don't wanna be in this tower right now LoL

It is interesting to note that 1 minute prior to the 5.9 off Oregon was a 2.0 near San Francisco Bay, and 1 minute after the 5.9 was a 3.9 offshore Northern Cali.

Large scale movement?

Damn all I predicted was for a 7+ around the 11th, NOT for the whole ring-o-fire to start a rockin'!

Haha. You said it. This is getting creepy, all this quiet then large scale movement globally.

This is not normal. Just after Oregon, Mexico comes in. I've been watching quakes daily for a couple of years and I've never seen anything like this. After Japan you didn't get other place popping of good sized quakes. The preceding timeperiod was very quiet and then big ones all over. The Oregon quake had my eyebrow raised. The Mexico quake has me shaking my head.

Tarred and feathered and then burnt at the stake you should be (only kidding)

Well I have to say I have never seen a day like it.

If PuterMan says it, then it must be true, though please, let's keep the doom at a minimal for the more important developments. Other threads are there for that. Just letting those know who haven't caught onto to the developments yet.
