It's like watching a game of global quake pinball!

Joining in over the last hour; Poland, Greece, Turkey and even Westport on the South Island of New Zealand, which is something you don't hear of too often.

This is really fascinating to say the least...

Going back to bed to bury my head under the bedclothes.........

No not really.

I only wonder if these are natural or man-made. How could ya tell?

MEXICO CITY — A strong earthquake has struck off the coast of Mexico, but there were no immediate reports of damages inland.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a preliminary reading of 6.9 magnitude. It says the temblor was centered 82 miles (133 kilometers) northeast of Guerrero Negro, and hit some 6.4 miles (10.3 kilometers) below the surface.

It follows a 6.4 magnitude quake which struck a sparsely populated area in the mountains of western Mexico on Wednesday, and caused tall buildings to sway more than 200 miles (322 kilometers) away in Mexico City.

There is a forum for that sort of speculation. I think it is called 'Folk Tales & Urban Legends' or possible 'ATS Skunk Works'.

Such a mechanism is not possible, and not discussable in this thread thank you.

Better get your stuff together "Puterman" and all you "experts" it's about to get real!!!!!!! Crazy around here, in a New york Minute.... so to speak......

Quakes happening here, there, and everywhere, in the last few hours, and y'all are behind the eight ball, in a manner of speaking, so get your boots on, and hit the ground soldiers, cause if not....

Your gonna be playing catch up, in the game called humanity's last hope.....

Hi, I do not want to intrude but I feel the urge to ask this question. (I have been lurking this thread for a while and know I will get an answer)

So..
Does anyone know how long it has been since we have seen so many big quakes in different locations in such a short amount of time as these last 24 hours, starting with the Sumatra quake.

Thanks

Interesting you say that as Japan has gone eerily quiet ... it really is as if all the plate stresses have shifted completely eastwards ...and yet South America too is so quiet .

Awaiting the petajoules (?) cumulative energy release for this last 24 hours and hoping it will show a years' worth of energy already produced , no more large releases needed - quota fulfilled !

I have to say that i am rather worried by all these quakes over the last day. I have always been firmly in the "this is totally normal camp" (and possibly still am deep down) but i have to admit to a rise in the number of frown lines this morning!

It really does appear to be a rattling globe at the moment.

Well in answer to 2 in the same place it is not common.

Would you believe me if I said that yesterday was a VERY rare day, like the only occurrence of 2 Mag 8 quakes in the same place on one day in a century + 10 years?

I have looked at this for over an hour now and I just cannot find another occurrence.
