Science here tries to explain 'Strange Sounds' etc. Interesting details, show a given Triangular shape whose 3 corners offer further reasoning ref; Earthquakes. A few years back they suggested the Australin plate had slightly changed direction. Worth a view of the aboe to see how APANETA reference to the planets core, does point toward N.E.Australia.

Hope something useful exists on this Geological Change site ????

further to post by muzzy

there probably won't be many aftershocks from this, being 200km deep

Well not many, but a decent size
about 20km SW of the Mainshock

Reference Number 3653145
Universal Time February 3 2012 at 16:16
NZ Daylight Time Saturday, February 4 2012 at 5:16 am
Latitude, Longitude 40.36°S, 173.40°E
Focal Depth 190 km
Richter magnitude 5.0
Region NW of New Zealand
70 km north-east of Collingwood
70 km north-west of French Pass
100 km north of Nelson
150 km north-west of Wellington

I only just felt it, gentle wobbling. Was like the Darfield 7.1 in 2010, if you had been laying down you wouldn't have felt it, had just got up and sat down with a coffee and when it happened. I did exactly what I did on Sept 3 2010, looked down towards the floor thinking the cat was rubbing against my chair

WTF is with USGS?, they still haven't listed the 5.7 yet, or this one.

Lucky we have our own Geological Service, otherwise you'd never have known.

*ETA actually it was only a 4.891ML

edit on 3-2-2012 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

**ETA I see the GFZ's have yesterdays 5.7 at 4.6mb
WTF there is no way a 4.6 at that distance would shake the entire Kapiti Coast like it did

I didn't watch the Vid, but the Australian Plate HAS been a bit angry the last few days
prior to the Vanuatu there were a couple of 5's and 4's S of New Britain, PNG
then the Vanuatu 7.1 and aftershocks
and then Tasman Sea/Cape Farewell, NZ 5.7 and 5.0
ALL on the edges of the AP.

I'm watching them

I'm not sure if its just carelessness or laziness or they are doing it on purpose

Firstly there was a quake as Geonet indicated this morning, you can see it on SNZO.IU.10.BH1

Secondly I wonder if they actually look at their own seismographs they are putting out to the public?
I have been following the Vanuatu aftershocks on LISS SNZO, they are showing up quite well considering the distance.

When I came across the 5.4, 5.7, this morning I looked at the graph and thought "that can't be right", the first one is bigger. So I checked GFZ and sure enough it was 5.7, 5.4
USGS got it ass backwards!

heres the lines;

5.7, 2012/02/03 06:01:42, -17.380, 167.183, 24.9, VANUATU
5.4, 2012/02/03 04:33:09, -17.484, 167.232, 23.8, VANUATU
5.4, 2012-02-03 06:01:41, 17.40°S, 167.24°E, 28, Vanuatu Islands
5.7, 2012-02-03 04:33:10, 17.43°S, 167.27°E, 32 , Vanuatu Islands

Just to confuse matters heres some more networks results, just to confuse us evenmore;

5.9mb, 2012-02-03 06:01:37.5, -17.28, 167.16, 10, Vanuatu Islands
5.6mb, 2012-02-03 04:33:06.3, -17.34, 167.23, 10, Vanuatu Islands

5.6Mw, 2012-02-03 06:01:41.0, 17.39S, 167.44E, 30, VANUATU
5.7Mw, 2012-02-03 04:33:06.0, 17.45S, 167.30E, 10, VANUATU

5.8M, 2012/02/03 06:00:59.0, 10, Vanuatu Islands Region
5.6M, 2012/02/03 04:33:07.1, 10, Vanuatu Islands Region

same as USGS.........................

BUT ...............................

6.4 for the earlier bigger aftershock
7.3 confirmed/finalised for the Mainshock

and heres the graph;
LISS SNZO Day33-34

I was using USGS up till then but switched to GFZ for those 2, its obvious to anyone with eyes that are open that the first one was bigger

BTW the number after LR= is the arrival time at SNZO, not the time of the quake.
LR is the S wave, no idea why its called the LR, might be Long Range (shrugs shoulders)

Could it stand for Love-Rayleigh waves (surface waves)? That's the only thing that came to mind.
Way to stay on top of USGS's mistakes, Muzzy. I'm glad we have you watching.

could be
, I haven't been able to find out on USGS what it stands for

ETA, yeah you are right, thanks

any idea what LQ stands for

that comes up on the travel time results just before LR waves, usually by a minute or so.

I've had use use LR waves a lot in analyzing LISS graphs, the P waves are hard to see.

Maybe they're tunneling too fast!!!

I don't know if I should do this,

For the type 2 earthquakes, for P waves and for S waves in comparison with a single couple which is for a one seismic fault of alternate compression and dilatation we have two faults with the same four branches undermined of branches of the same S waves and four branches of P waves with different focal mechanism, with 3 angles and a scalar, characterized by a anaseismic motion. The description of a double couple,it's made using a so called "beach ball" diagram with graphical representation(BB calculator)[which I don't always agree]

Mo =μΣ* Δu, which I will not explain because....blah on....,

but still working on "poorly constrained"

Conservatives argue for smaller goverment. Their main complaint is there is too much regulation. Considering the annual budget of the US Government, this must mean it is a immense, powerful, beuracratic beast. So, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission must be a fierce and strict enforcer of codes. Safety is dependant on exacting building and operation codes. I guess the Republicans are right about the constant interference of government. Here's the Commission jumping on the poor, helpless corporations.

So, the Commission is demanding a report. And the Nuke Plants have four years to comply. Let's think about this like another safety issue. Cell phones and texting while driving. Did regulators give the public four years to think about the issue before they change the laws? No. Four years. And that's just the reporting. Well, that's better than their fire safety compliance issues. It's been thirty years and they're almost up to date. Obviously the Regulators are too powerful. The poor corporations can't keep up with all the demands placed on them by the goverment. Goverment=you.

"We the people."

Here's the Great Shake Out Drill.

Kids will be told to get under their desks. In buildings not built to the same codes as California. The Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995 caused a building to collapse. The blast only took out a few columns at most. If the building had been up to the codes for California, it would not have destroyed.

PBS had another ariticle on earthquakes, expanding on the mammoth story. Liquefation "Topples Buildings"

PBS has really been doing the homework lately. Bravo. I've been hearing more about fracking as well.

I wonder if they calculated liquefaction into the equation when building the power plants. The schools.

If there happens to be an earthquake in Antartica, don't worry, it's only the Russians. They may be boring into a subglacial lake. It's pressurized. They'll be opening a big bottle of champagne. There may be a big pop when the remove the cork.

There's a bit of mystery to the story. They haven't been heard from in days.

Are they stupid? Didn't they watch the Thing? I refuse to watch the lastest remake.

So. You have the pressure from the heat below. Pressure from the ice above. Pressure from gas within. Hmmm.

Whew! You scared me! I Googled it with one eye open! Wasn't familiar with the name.
When I saw all capital letters I thought it was an acronym. Something 'HAARPy" !!!

I was reading something the other day about volcanic activity increasing around the time of bigger earthquakes.
And everything sure is perking right now!

Did you see this? I saw it the other day & thought, Phhhht!!!
But with all that's been going on, maybe it would be interesting to keep an eye on it & see!
Most of those places are pretty common, the clincher would be if they all hit in that small of a time frame!!!
I thought: Whoa, Spain. Hmmm, Vanuatu. Not a direct hit, but they said NZ / NG 'region', not giving them that one. Not feeling generous! But then Vancouver just popped up!!! Oh, oh!!!

Today is the 28th day of 1st month in the 12th year of the 3rd millennium and the 11th day from the next Sacrificial FULL MOON of the 7th to celebrate the anniversary of HER 60th ascenSION cycle for the 6th.

Woe to the CITY of KOBE to the Heavens GATES and MAYan PORT of RICArdo to SANTIAGO near the GULF and EYE of horuz.

DAY ONE begins the first 13 days of shakings followed by 13 more days of shakings from the 16th to the 29th leap into the 1st of NIN months of great shakings.

all dates for large quakes M6+ to M7+ the 1st thirteen days of the 2nd month of 20 and 12
+/- 1 day for timezones

Now will it be NEar the City of the HAARP, or by the City who plays the HARP across the Gates of GOldEN ORE?

But I also hear Ricky RICardo likes to play the Harp for a few Spainish VIRGINS near Madrid when Lucy is away washing tons of fish in the Middle LAND of the NEW SEA and TIGER BAY.

So beware of the Cross of the holy SAvior from Santiago and the ancient phire that awakens near venice after another SINE by the 2nd SUMeriAn TRAgedy of 152.

Areas that should be on alert

Mexico/Baja Ca. & Dominican Republic/Puerto Rico Region
Oregon & Vancouver
Spain, Italy
Equador to Venezuela & Chile Region
NZ & PNG Region
Japan/tokyo & Indonesia/Sumatra Region

P.S. one more thing I think its time to mention and raise awareness of a major concern as we get closer to the FIRST month of a very dangerous NIN month period.

BIG Seismic months coming up beginning in February and an extremely dangerous month again in MARCH 2012... especially around 3/3, 3/11 and 3/22 followed by another 7 more months of record seismic activity.

Japan, California, Madrid fault & Yellowstone are in grave danger.

As if the coming attack on Iran, false flag or dirty nuke terrorism, economic collapse, martial law and Tekoma passing isn't going to be bad enough. Hope for the best, but people need to be prepared for a bumpy ride.

move far away from major urban centers. Most importantly, don't ignore the advice out there to make at least basic emergency preparations with a solar generator (if possible), food, and water for several months and even some methods of " protection" /self defense if you know what i mean.
End of prediction.
