I have heard stories about this in the past. Homosexuality is rampant throughout the region. Apparently Saudi Arabia is the gay Mecca.

Their harsh rules separating men and women has already turned the country gay.

Actually the whole reason they're in the place they're in is because in the 80's their King was going to allow the country to become a true democracy, but the US stepped in and convinced him that it was okay to stay a monarchy as long as he supplied the US with cheap oil. This started a wave of violence and nonsensical law in Saudi Arabia that still echos loudly today.

"Our country" (assuming you mean the US) is actually utter # which allows our rich to continue bloating their pockets which are already bursting at the seams by perpetuating the oppression and even murder of people in other countries. This oppression and murder also happens in our country by the same people that saw to it that Saudi Arabia remains a #-hovel, just not to the same large degree, and when it happens it's ignored completely by the MSM so the lazy inhabitants will feel like it's a non-issue and ignore it, and instead focus their time on texting in to America Idol to tell them that, despite science, hermaphrodites are satanists.

Absolutely, we need to let other cultures have their own culture. Although I don't agree with the punishment meted out to the woman that was caught driving, I do believe that they have the right to govern themselves in the method they choose rather than having our culture, mores, and system of government forced upon them.

Yes, I'm sure all the women in their country would agree to these laws if they had the choice.

It would be wrong of us to force our aliens ways of "don't beat people for using every day devices" upon them.

We should also ignore when governments decide to break all other basic human rights defined by the geneva conventions because those are just for the governments who said they like those ideas.

Basic human rights are moot compared to what the government wants.

Then why should we allow women to be treated as objects who's lives can be discarded for something as giving an American man a glance?

Any nation living under religious rule, or basing laws on archaic religious belief needs to be taken over and have secularism forced upon them -note not Americanism or capitalism though.

That said I do not believe that individuals should be stripped of the right to believe whatever they chose and this is something true secularism would promote - freedom of belief (no matter how stupid your religion).

As a person who has actually grown up in Saudi Arabia, instead of some other country making gross overgeneralizations, I can safely say that the number of gay people in Saudi society is high enough to assure that what they are claiming in the article will not happen so is the truth of the matter

And no women are not slaves in Saudi Arabia. You don't get it because you don't live there. Women RULE the country. They have their husbands working their butts off to pay the driver that drives them everywhere, then there are maids that do everything for them, then there are cooks etc. The number of medium income Saudis have been increasing, so they might not be able to afford drivers and consequently get up and request this. But I can assure you that no Saudi woman would want to drive or do anything by themselves if they can get someone else to do it for them. Think about that for a bit.

I think these kind of governmentaly backward countries run by oppressive muslim based religious systems need to have the necessary upgrading of their society forcefully done for them.

I think the UN should be working to stamp out shariah type laws as the affront to human rights they are and always have been. They would not be tolerated if they had just suddenly started doing this in this day and age. An established oppressive culture of cruelty should not be justified simply because it has always been this twisted.

Saudi Arabia should be allowed to vote these idiots out of power and have them replaced with normal modern human beings not the savage religious zealots that currently run that and other countries.

Either that or forced military occupations to acheive the same. There needs to be a world treaty drawn up forcing the removal of these kind of religious maniac run governments whose cruelty is a hideous and embarrassing affront to the rest of the civilised world. True and fair Democracy and human rights need to be forceably rammed down their throats.
