How do religions die? Generally they don't, which probably explains why there's so little literature on the subject. Consider the case of global warming, another system of doomsaying prophecy and faith in things unseen.

As with religion, it is presided over by a caste of spectacularly unattractive people pretending to an obscure form of knowledge that promises to make the seas retreat and the winds abate. As with religion, it comes with an elaborate list of virtues, vices and indulgences. As with religion, its claims are often non-falsifiable, hence the convenience of the term "climate change" when thermometers don't oblige the expected trend lines. As with religion, it is harsh toward skeptics, heretics and other "deniers." And as with religion, it is susceptible to the earthly temptations of money, power, politics, arrogance and deceit.

Yet a funny thing happened on the way to the climate apocalypse. Namely, the financial apocalypse.

Looking at your nae and signature, Your trying to reduce the speed limit and impose that on others because of your beliefs.

You rant on about religion so hear this.......

Your stand on speed might make you a hypocrite as your trying to enforce your beliefs on others but my question is... how 'attractive' are you as a face of your religion of slow speed?

First let me say that I was a delegate at the Governor's Conference on CLIMATE CHANGE in Davis California this year. I saw a lot of people that were well positioned to make a ton of money due to the upcoming cap and trade programs. At first I was a bit put off by the Armani suits but after much discussion with my peers I had a realization. If you need to get something as big as Cap and Trade to happen quickly there has to be financial rewards. For example; Getting a large large corporation or company to go with solar energy has to be PROFITABLE for that company or it simply won't happen.

Cap and Trade has hit a major roadblock due to the economic woes of the world in general. If the economy was strong there would be some serious changes coming in how the largest polluters in the world do business. Some of those changes come with huge benefits for the planet. For example; Some of the largest polluters in the world are oil refineries and surprisingly, cement plants. One large refinery owner recently bought up thousands of pristine acres of rain forest. The plan is to use the forest for carbon credits that will help offset the gross pollution of his refineries. Previous to Cap and Trade that rainforest was soon to be destroyed. Now it will remain pristine.

Only a fool does not recognize that CLIMATE CHANGE is happening. The WHY it is happening is up for grabs. Sadly the effects of CLIMATE CHANGE are hitting the poorest Countries hardest. As in any new program Cap and Trade has been fraught with fraud, schemers and charlatans. It is also full of people that know that something has to change or entire populations are going to be displaced. Science has given us tons of new tools to understand as well as misunderstand climate data.

btw. They really blew it when they decided to call it Global Warming. All it took was unusual snowfall in a couple of spots for the "Arm Chair Scientists" to disprove (in their own feeble minds) that CLIMATE CHANGE is a ruse.

I think they blew it when they changed the name from global warming to climate change. Everyone immediately saw that climate change covers every possibility.

Nothing wrong with that. Everyone who takes a stand on an issue is trying to impose their proposal on others.

I can never see myself hopping on the whole global warming is a hoax bandwagon. There are certain gases which affect the climate in a certain way, and the exhaust from automobiles, as well as many other sources, release these. Constantly releasing them from millions of different sources 24 hours a day will eventually put a substantial amount of those gases in the planets skies/atmosphere, slowly heating the planet.

Just ask Venus.

WSJ is a government rag? Really? It is a Murdoch rag, but the current administration's rag it is not.

Actually by NOT addressing a cleaner future the rich are going to get richer as they're going to do nothing other than making the obscene amounts of money that they always have made.

Would you expect a rag that is written for the Corporation to espouse anything other than something that is FOR the Corporation? W/O fail anything that could be slightly against Corporate regulation WSJ is adamanty against.

Except...it's a fact that the average temperature on earth increased. So that WSJ article is incredibly disingenuous. Climategate was manufactured, and just like last time, they're now at it again right before the conference.

In case you're wondering why the WSJ would post such blatant lies...Murdoch's the owner, and we all know how "informative" and "well researched" his news outlets are

Climategate nonsense

Yes…complete and utter nonsense!

So if someone wrote an article in the WSJ saying the world was flat and was orbited by a very small sun, you would believe them?

I would, obviously ......

Or am I stupid ...........

Maybe... but regardless, the whole thing was mishandled from the beginning.

Assuming for just one moment that there is some real science behind global warming that links climate change to human generated carbon dioxide, it SHOULD have been presented to the world by way of the scientific community.

But it didn't happen that way.

I think it is safe to say that the great majority of people got this message the first time by way of the movie, An Inconvenient Truth, starring Albert Gore. Next, we should all know by now that politics is probably the single most divisive thing ever conceived by man. By its very design, it polarizes and divides us down ideological/political lines.

By giving the message of global warming to the global community by way of a politician, did we really expect anything but the sharp divisions on the subject that we see today? I mean, who in the hell in their right mind could have imagined this subject becoming anything BUT politicized?

And it has stayed this way ever since. The believer/non-believer lines are nearly perfectly matched with political identifications. It's almost like it was planned to create yet one more division among the human race.

So, in the end, if global warming is real... and as stated, then the failure of it to take upon the global community lies squarely with those who chose a political stage on which to present it.

Global warming is dead because... it never was alive to begin with.

It was first published in scientific magazines and then picked up by other information outlets. But the solutions have to come through the implementation of regulations and new laws. How else do you propose to solve the issue of a warming earth?

And the "it's just a climate cycle" argument is nonsense too. It's true, the earth warmed by 0.7 degrees Celsius before...but that took over a thousand years, whereas this time, it took around 60 years!!!

First: I did not take a stand on the base subject so please, don't polarize me.

Second, As I am sure that most working class humans make a point of reading scientific journals, they should have known before it happened. (DUH!)

Third. I never said a thing about a climate cycle. Not a freakin word, thank you.

My argument is, and remains, that the subject was bungled from the outset; polarized politically by Al Gore & Co. and further segregated by the political wrangling that followed.

Real or unreal no longer matters because it was fed to the political machine and now forever lost.

Have a nice day

Addendum:

I do not mean to sound sarcastic or coarse. But it is generally how political debate goes... after a while, you tend to expect the worst from those who reply to things you offer.

My apologies if I came of as the cynic I am.

what i would like to find out... with all the warming and the Arctic ice mostly gone...
huge chunks of ice ice-sheets breaking off of Antarctica

Why isn't the coastal areas getting flooded like the scientists 30 years ago were warning us about...

i expected by now the south Jersey landmass to be swamps, the Eastern Maryland land sunk into the Chesapeke and the outer banks of NC to be 10 foot under the tides...

What gives???

dollar-to-a-donut that the Earth decompression and the spreading Atlantic & Pacific seafloors are creating volume for the extra seawater to fill... without the sealevel rising as was anticipated...

but no , science tends to sidestep the results ----> sealevels not rising in spite of iceberg meltings

but also science Not acknowledging the theory of an expanding Earth/ decompressing Earth...
causing the sealevels to not be rising as it should be doing with the increased volume of melted ice sheets being introduced into the landscape/geology of the Planet... Something or someone has to finally give-in and account for the melted ice and the resulting same-old-same-old with the tides and sealevels around the world.

the bulges in the Erths crust is another topic that is being avoided by science & the status quo

Much like the Nazi party MO, the WSJ hopes the repeating there is no climate change the world will believe the lie. OJ Simpson did the same thing when he cut his ex wife's head off.

Are we the sole reason for climate change? I dunno, I certainly know we're not helpning the situation. Look @ the amount of pollution pouring out of the greater Asian area with the Asian Brown Cloud to see WHY we need to do EVERYTHING we can to make sure THE ONLY HOME we have is a viable home.

How many of the climate change deniers excrete in the same spot that the sleep or onto the same plate that the eat off of? Few I would imagine, but there are some strange fetishes out there (as witness by many politicians from a particular party!). If those same deniers won't do that to their bed or plates, why do the literally approve doing that to the Earth?

This is silly.

At this point we have all the data. It is no longer of question as to whether or not climate change is real. The question as stated above, is as to what impact exactly do humans play in its development.

Anyone who claims that climate change is non existent, cannot possibly know or understand what climate is.

Just saying. All you have to do is take an hour out of your day, look up things on the interwebs and use your brain.

I think it's easy to see what the truth is on Global Warming simply based on politics. I just go Right wing. Whatever Right wing tells me I know is the truth. We got WMDs in Iraq, man's pollution is not to blame for the damage to the planet, ozone is optional and even if it wasn't, there's nothing we're doing that's hurting it... Obama is muslim Hitler... universal healthcare would make us like Nazi Germany... and hating illegals just feels right... corporations are people... corporations deserve tax breaks... I mean... the wisdom of the Right is all around us.

So, someone says, global warming, big oil, corporate greed, blah blah... makes no sense to me. I just look to the nearest Right Wing talking head and in my gut and in my conscience the truth just shines.

I don't even need to read news sources or listen to science... FOX News and Right Wing talking heads all the way. Just watch the sides they take and the truth becomes very evident.

And when Rupert Murdoch's rag confirms that I need not take any responsibility for the environment. Done. I was hoping I wouldn't have to care anyway.

Clearly there is no problem here. Drill, baby, drill!

Don't forget it's all just fear-mongering designed to scare you into paying taxes for the air you breathe.

Not gonna fall for it! That's the liberal agenda - fear. Eco-terrorist hippies are trying to enslave us into their pagan socialist nazi regime. Thank god I'm smart enough to see through the fear.

The right has always been about fair and balanced reporting - that's why they make sure to remind me at every turn that the science is not settled on global warming, because oil companies and skeptical bloggers have much easier-to-swallow answers than scientists do. Thank God I'm not one of those losers who live in communist countries with no opportunity to choose or think for themselves though lol!

And I'm glad even that liberal pro-big-government rag The Wall Street Journal is finally admitting to the global warming scam now. If this isn't the final nail in the coffin then I don't know what is. Obviously their house of cards is really collapsing.

I'm gonna celebrate by drinking a gallon of kool-aid, watching a Glenn Beck marathon, and making fun of dirty OWS protestors on the internet. Then I've got more Christmas shopping to do of course. This time of year is crazy, but I can get tons of stuff made cheap from China, and I don't even have to worry about it anyway because I have 7 credit cards.

That's what true FREEDOM is about!!

I suspect the elites are happy to let the whole thing quietly slide now - because the real agenda has been achieved - the financial collapse of the western world.

"Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsiblity to bring that about?" - Maurice Strong, founder of the UN Environment Programme

"A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States. De-development means bringing our economic system into line with the realities of ecology and the world resource situation." - Paul Ehrlich, Professor of Population Studies

green-agenda.com...

The IPCC (The UN International Climate Change Panel) was fathered in 1988 by Rothschild & Maurice Strong, who was head of the Rio Summit and the UN Environment Program (UNEP), which declares to want environment to vye with religion for people's hearts - in order to shape them and countries.
