I have been following the occupy protests with great interest and have read the viewpoints from both sides, the 99 and the other 1 %. Seems to me that the msm and the 1% were trying to dismiss the ows as being disorganized and aimless with no focus or common goal regarding what they were trying to achieve through their peaceful protest. They ridiculed the movement ... the msm broadcast confused "interviews" with "protestors" who made little sense and didn't appear to have anything to say other than mumbling stuff about banks.
For a while it seemed that the whole thing was just going to fizzle out after a few pops of tear gas.

After watching the NYPD clearing the park, a transparency emerged that if the OWS movement has achieved anything it has shown that the US is in distress. But by movement I mean not just the protestors but the NYPD also.

Peaceful protest is not civil unrest. Although the NYPD are charged with keeping order and protecting the city, that is not what the world has seen them do.
I have read enough about how the world is owned by banks and corporations, but I don't believe for a second that 99% are switched on to this. The "awareness" is the true goal of the OWS movement and perhaps unwittingly TPTB are aiding and assisting the protestors in achieving this goal.
For every baton charge some poor protestor finds themselves on the receiving end of ....another mushroom will come out of the dark and take up their place in the 99%.
By standing up and being counted as part of the 99% their ignorance of what is really going on in the world will diminish and TPTB will have played their part, albeit unwittingly.

I have read some views also, that peaceful protest has never brought about change, and that change is only achievable after violence. I don't know if that is true but if it is.... then the violence that is happening and will no doubt continue... is being sustained by TBTB

It leaves me wondering will the OWS protestors someday be seen as heroes who endured these conditions and violence to bring in a new world order where humanity and peace are the prime objectives of every world government. OR will the new world order come stomping down on the OWS through martial law which will spread like a cancer through the US and beyond.

People are losing their human rights and I worry what kind of a world are my grandchildren are going to grow up in.
I believe that change is needed. I believe that the media lies. I believe that wars are staged under false flags. I believe that the 1% feed off of the 99%. I believe that our world " leaders " are on someone's payroll.

I wanted to post this because I am interested to read what everyone else thinks about the violence being shown through the ustream broadcasts.... and if anyone else thinks that the OWS protestors and other occupy movements on the ground in other locations are in danger of becoming the sacrificial lambs to bring about global change.

"and if anyone else thinks that the OWS protestors and other occupy movements on the ground in other locations are in danger of becoming the sacrificial lambs to bring about global change."

Thats what it may come down to, but it doesn't matter, as long as the global change happens AND IT WILL.

Then by any means.... even sacraficing ourselves to the Beast.

I am going out to an occupy as soon as I get my parents blessing and I almost have them convinced, the Ron Paul polls being censored got them pissed off because they are Paul supporters like me. They also didn't like the beating the police gave those cal state students.

And those of you talking about private property...funny how some Americans are quick to defend the private property rights of corporations, but say nothing when the private property rights of civilians are violated by the police.

Really? When did this happen?

Im pretty sure that the same people screaming for the rights of private property owners here on ATS are the same ones screaming and posting threads when private citizens private property rights are violated......

Want to back that accusation up?

If it seems like the "elite" arent concerned its because they ARENT , you guys sitting in parks and running around with signs are no threat to them............

You know who is? People of ACTION, walking around with signs and camping out is not ACTION, its the illusion of action...........

Action is petitioning, action is voting, action is calling your congressmen, action is DOING something.......

Action is cutting their funding...........

They are not afraid of OWS........

"You" guys?

And newsflash: action is voting? Voting for who? Calling your congressmen? My same congressman who has received donations from Goldman Sachs? That is who I am supposed to call?

Your entire post is pure, unadulterated idiocy.

"You guys". You don't even have a clue as to what you're talking about.

People are out there because they have realized something that your mind clearly cannot comprehend: The government has been compromised. The political process have been perverted.

But keep voting for pigs from this two party system and think that change will come about that way. I see no difference between Bush and Obama and I doubt whoever comes next will do anything different. Get real.

Realize that if they hang in there, if it grows, When the police finally overreact with shootings, you may very well get that revolution. So while OWS might not be "The" revolution, it may very well become that.

It may not be a revoloution yet but these things take time to come about. Revouloution is pretty rare in the western world.

The peasants Revolt This one was not a success but it ened up changing things here in england for the better.

All we can do is hope that a similar sort of thing happens now. As people always say, history repeats itself.

OWS should have to pay for all of the stuff they trashed and all of the costs they have racked up on the cites around the country.

thread after thread I see this huge negative opinion towards OWS...which has supported the many values that many ATS'ers have talked about for quite a while in the past...

now that change is upon us...so many people are so quick to judge and pick a supposed side in times like these that they begin to believe that the entire movement is based off one single "evil", "communist", "socialist", or "hippy" idea...

hate to break it to all of you naysayers...but it's the dawn of revolutions...it's time to say we want our world back in our hands...

to embrace ignorance...is to be come ignorant oneself...regardless the belief...

There is not a revolution underway, it lost its credibility with the first pile of human feces found with hypodermic needles sticking out.

Its more like a 1% of the 99 had a real purpose and the rest are just homeless slackers using this movement to park a tent and crap on everyone.

I am sick of this.

That's right, it's not the fault of the government or "big banks" either. It's the fault of every single person that bought a home they couldn't afford, or overpaid for a home on the thin hope that "some day" it'll be worth more than they paid for it. It's greed and stupidity. I can't believe the number of stories, mostly out of CA, of people who bought homes they couldn't afford by getting "interest only" loans. Masses of people getting loans that can never be paid off, because all they're paying is the interest on the loan, never the principal. What moron does such a thing??? And then there are the many, many people who refinanced their home when the interest rates went down, and instead of using it to lower their payments or shorten their mortgage term, they TOOK CASH OUT!?! I just have zero sympathy for all these people who thought they could take advantage of the "system" and now find themselves victims of their own greed.

That is easily one of the most unrealistic views I've ever heard, bravo, I've heard so very many. Congrats.

Your complete lack of understanding that no longer will the status quo be maintained. That status quo is death and suffering and starvation and horror. That you cannot even see it says volumes. You may find one day, not too far away, YOU will be the outcast of the norm, if the norm equals justice for everyone, not just a few who feel they're better than everyone else. We'll see I guess.

To characterize a multifaceted movement that has moved worldwide like that is horrifyingly naive.

how about asking the fat cat bankers to pick up the cheque for the cleaning crew ...out of their big fat bonus payments that they worked so hard to screw the cities out of?

..
go ahead and pick sides...i'm still wide open to it...

it wouldn't be so widespread if not for our government...hate it all you want...label it all you want...it's still the people's freedom of expression...

I lack understanding as to why so many people are supposedly proud to be american, but at the first chance they get want to take away people's right to protest just because they don't personally believe in it...it's so hypocritical to consider yourself a proud american if you're willing to take away other people's right to speak their minds and their unhappiness in our government, unless it coincides with your own personal belief's...

as for the protests being unsanitary in any way...the only one you need to thank is your state government for not allowing urinals for these people...

USE YOUR HEAD BRO. I politely say to you, that if you don't think this is going to spark a revolution, YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR FRICKIN MIND!!!

If they keep coming back, setting up tents, getting evicted, OVER AND OVER.... AND KEEP GROWING AND GROWING... COMING BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN...... well then.. you know.

But the fact it is...... its not an "if"!

WE HAVE ALREADY WON

THOSE WHO FEEL THE SPIRIT OF THE ARAB SPRING INSIDE OF THEM KNOW THIS IS REAL!!!

THIS IS THE "IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE"

and the master plan is public and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it!!!

I went on for years paying all the bills and mortgage first, it left next to nothing after dog-cat-chicken feed, food for the family cleaning supplies and TP, very few extras and my beautiful deserving intelligent kids did not even own a cell phone or pocket game, no new clothes except back to school and xmas, it has been hard to watch as others got bailed out and received pity because they drove new cars, had all the latest gadgets and went way over their heads to keep up with the Jones.

I could go on, I would love to see a real revolution happen where mediocrity is not rewarded, but those days are over.
