this gets my goat,no matter how it's perceived its called desensitization,the industry has been doing it for many many years.Unfortunately within a few years this will be considered the norm on television and movies and eventually up the ante..Shock value states in advertising

Sex sells, simple as that. You can't arrest people for portraying a crime on TV, otherwise every actor who played a killer would be behind bars!

Some say life mirrors TV and what they watch....But also TV mirrors life, teenager have been having sex for a long long time, it is nothing new it was going on way before TV was in vented, and now a days if you were to look you would see most of them have had sex by the time there 15 or younger. Same as it has always been really.

It all depends on the person in question though, but ya it ain't all the TV like the parents like to blame, and if the parents were to really think back they would see that they to, and all there friends were pretty much the same at that age. It's natural and some though are literally like rabbits.

If anything what these shows are trying to do is give it a meaning other then the primal hormonal meaning that it usually has. Basically at it's base they know they cant stop people from being people and going around like rabbits having sex, so there trying to set them on paths that are more easily controlled.

Hence we have dramas, and stories to make things more interesting and hide the fact that it is the same old thing that has always been happening, basically it's called creating illusions for them to life in, as they go and do what they have always done. All to various ends though.

Just because your sense of morality tells you it's wrong, doesn't mean it isn't going on, or that young people are unaware of sex.

Young people have sex all the time, and it's precisely this kind of hysteria over it that causes them to have unprotected sex or have sex when they are uneducated in sexual matters because they're afraid to talk to their parents about it, who don't understand or thump their bible in response.

I grew up in the early 1970's when they were just begining to show naked women on the screen.

They got it through by making claims such as its essental to the plot, its done very tastefuly, the movie will suffer without it, etc

I and my mates did'nt care what excuses they used or how they justified it, we just went along to see naked women and front on views at that.

I think anyone can see the free to air TV is declining with competition from computers and the intenet and so if its to survive it has to compete so they are simply getting femal nudtity and sex into free to air tv.

the sooner the better to my way of thinking.

I monitor what my children digest on TV and the net, its part of being
a responsable parent

I don't have a television in my home. This is not the reason, but it makes me glad. T.V.s get left on and children end up seeing things you don't want them too. As a parent even if you approve of a show, you never know what you are going to get on the commercials.
The majority of teens having sex is a social issue. It happened far less often when it was a taboo. Now day's it's practically a taboo not to have sex as a teen. If it was more socially acceptable or socially expected for one to wait until they were mature enough to take precautions and handle the consequences I believe it would reduce the problem of teen pregnancies and STD's. Unfortunately sex is shoved down children's throats. I am not saying wait for marriage or that sex is bad, but but or careless attitude towards sex is a problem. I also don't think we should go back to a time when every one was a prude about sex, but I do feel that when you devalue it like the media has done not only does it become something that is no longer special but ends up having a higher rate of consequences.

TVs get left on...

There are a variety of tools available to parents these days to ensure that kids won't see shows parents don't deem appropriate, etc.

In addition, parents should be talking to their kids about values, and reinforcing those values with their actions, etc., vs. trying to blame TV, movies, and games for it.

I'm betting half of the parents upset about it are the same folks that buy their kid an M rated game without even checking, because little Johnny just has to have GTA like his friend down the street.

It’s not about children witnessing these act on television. That is the parents responsibility to deal with. Television has become a horrible tool for those who wish to shape the future of our society by brainwashing our youth. The issue here is the legality of it all. Sure, teenagers have sex all the time, in all societies, however, put those sexual acts on film and suddenly you’ve broken the law. That is what is happening in this case.

Get a video camera and film late age teenagers engaged in erotic acts, like those seen on televison, put it on a website and charge people to view it, market it as teenage sex and I guarantee you the FBI will be busting down your door

The actors involved aren't teenagers (usually 20 somethings), just their characters...and it isn't actual sex, but simulated.

That's how it's a legal depiction.

Child pornography is the visual representation of minors under the age of 18 engaged in sexual activity or the visual representation of minors engaging in lewd or erotic behavior designed to arouse the viewer's sexual interest.

They are representing minors. However, I'm sure you're right. I'm no lawyer, but this is how they more than likely justify this.

I think I know what is going on here. Let me break this down.

Stage 1: Kid sees a scene on TV where no sex happens but is only suggested.
Stage 2: Parent ACTUALLY has to talk to child about birds and bees. Does a horrible job since they are massively repressed and associates sex with guilt.
Stage 3: Parent writes letter of outrage to TV network. Gets one program mildly censored for 6 months.
Stage 4: Child gets pregnant/impregnates someone because both parents and teachers were too weak to talk about sexual health with them and the cautionary sexual episode of the censored show wasn't shown.

Repeat ad naseum.
