A CME will not affect your car or its battery.

I'll assume it will effect On-Star, or any navigational devices of the sort associated with satellites.

Yes, the accuracy of GPS fixes can be affected.

Sunspot 1302 doesn't have much choice in the direction it takes really, but I am not going for the jugular, and I wish you had picked a better heading. Maybe the magnetosphere and a geomagnetic storm should be the main concern re your thread.

The bad music?

Unfortunately, when posting breaking news you have to use the exact headline of the source article.

However, perhaps you could tell me what you would have called the story... I often find that we do better than the media people do...

But the music is bad.

Aah that anomaly, Mercury.
Yes, you can see it every 2 months or so.
Excited looking for some sort of ship

What they call music these days.
I guess i'll stick with Explosions in the sky and Dark side of the moon

I think I might have watched the hearing where yu got this quote from. Reps from the Heritage Society(Foundation?) were speaking on the valid threat of EMP attacks from enemy countries as well as from the Sun and had proposed that the US set aside funds to construct some type of EM deterring box around transistors and generators and all other sorts of equipment that supplies us our electricity and would be affected by an EMP. I think the cost was some 200 Mil to effectively protect our eletrical infrastructure. Maybe 2 bil? Either way, it certainly was not expensive, and the benefits of preparedness far outweigh the costs. But then they were suggesting SMART grids for the nation, and I know many people here don't support that prop. Still, the phenomena is not being ignored and that is what is important for now.

Notable reply: CME's are regular, have disturbed "mankind's technology" as well as nature since the beginning of time. I find it irresponsible to tout potential catastrophy without a counter of reassurance this is natural. We are traversing into a "new age", our trajectory and the expansion of our universe must be factored in. Mankind has no control yet the masses hold fast to myth, worship a church of gold (so to speak), and selfishness rules. People starve, it is no longer survival of the fittest as technology and experimentation and downright torture of ill children by hospitals seeking cures when in a real world nature would take a different course. Our taxes go to finance the livelyhood of [drug/alcohol] babies or like consciensciously designed peoples. Had we been frugal our homes would be earthships, our waste unpolluting, our minds and hearts clear our consciences pure. We ready for threat of war, ready for MCE's, yet it is the harnessing and appropriate use of magnetics which built the pyramids. We have a humongous opportunity for utilization here! My guess is "no, we aren't learning yet" (and those who don't, won't bee here after. We may well face a population reduction from 6 billion to 500 million. As always, be of good cheer and smiles 4 miles. Live by Occum's razor theory - KISS. From what you eat to how you consume commercialism. Keep It Simple Silly. Love to all with respect and no offense intended in any manner or by any means, signed, a BIG silly

[more

I found that the first two pages of this thread were filled with immediate "facts" by members who shall not be named. I my whole life have heard complete vice versa of "facts" stated.

An attempt to keep it quiet with cool names and from the inside

Hello all - I am learning about the sun and solar flares so do not profess to be an expert however my concern as I sift through information is the magnetosphere.

My understanding is this - it is not so much the magnitude of the sunspot/solar flare but the protective layers that surround Earth that is the problem.

As I understand my fledgling research the magnetosphere that protects Earth is not in great shape and this means the solar flares/storms are not being filtered or deflected or absorbed or whatever it is that happens. In short Earth is getting more of a direct hit from the solar flares than previously when the magnetosphere was stronger and more protective.

Could HAARP have anything to do with the state of our atmospheric layers? I am not in the least worried about gadgets. I am concerned with being fried by the sun.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am not learning my science well.

Much Peace To Everyone...

I live in a rural area with a local internet provider. My ISP was down almost all day. About 5 times it popped back online for no more than 2 or 3 mins. State of Georgia, N. Mountains.

I thought sun-spots were waning(disappearing) or something? But hopefully this will pass, wonder what the worst case scenario would be..

I saw some pretty amazing northern lights in Airdrie Alberta, about 40 minutes ago was its peak and it was intense for a good hour. I'll assume this sunspot is the cause?

This is a very interesting thread and this is something to actually worry about. If it does knock out all electronics and other things there is nothing any one on earth can do about it. I would actually like to learn more about this information. I am now on a quest for knowledge. I am the type of person who wants to know every thing about everything. I know nothing compared to a mentally ill person. I say that simply because i know nothing of what another person goes through in their life and therefor i can not know everything. I would like to have all knowledge in this world but that is not possible. Thank you for your thread and i really enjoyed reading it.

As long as I can remember I have heared people say that this year disasters, natural and unnatural phenomena and what not more to be larger than ever. Anytime I look at the factual data it does not seem to be so.

So for these sunspots I wonder. Are they in fact larger than ever before? Or is there just more attention on it due to all the speculation going around?
