I have respect for the police and you're right that most are good people. On the other hand, I have friends and family in law enforcement, and my issue with them is they do things that break the law and have the mentality that they are above the law. The most common offense I've witnessed among those LEOs is drunk driving. It really bothers me and when I actually confronted them with my concern I was ridiculed. I also know that racial profiling is alive and well, and that power is abused at every level. Personally I've never been in any real trouble exceeding a routine traffic stop, and on the whole my experience has been if you give respect you get respect. I consider myself lucky... I know many others have not.

From what I understand LEOs have to assume that people are a danger until they can discern otherwise. This I can understand. It works both ways though... Just as a minority of the general public who are dangerous has caused them to initially suspect everyone as such, the general population is also weary of corrupt officers. It only takes a few to ruin the reputation of the lot. The problem is that you really don't know what you'll get on both sides, but it's not balanced because while only a minority of society are criminal, ALL LEOs have power over the rest of us and have the opportunity to abuse that power whenever, wherever, and however they chose. That simple fact breeds fear and contempt which is not completely unfounded.

Bashing LEOs is not the answer... I totally agree. Finding a solution isn't easy. By it's very nature this situation does not present a level playing field, since they ARE the law. I'm not sure what the answer is, I only know that with the flow of info these days and all the videos and stories of police brutality plaguing the Internet, this problem is likely to continue to get worse

I ultimately feel that if we don't have a paradigm shift soon, we are most certainly doomed to self destruct.

It is frustration with the police not policing themselves well enough.

A bad cop can do alot of damage, and there has been quite a few reports of bad cops the last couple of years, so naturally people are losing trust with their local PD's.

Although they are localized problems, there are to many reports of bad cops on a broader scale which leads people (at rightfully so IMO) to not trust the police in general.


It is a PR problem and makes me think there are flaws in how police are trained and how the bad cops are weeded out.

Anyways, thats just my take on why there seems to be so much "cop hating" around here.

I personally think that the local PD here does a great job
But it is different everywhere you go.

Most of the cop bashing comes from the actions of the police in a given situation whether the circumstances are known or not but its when the cops start beating people which goes against their job description and the powers they hold.

Cops are tax feeders who put protection of private property on the bottom of their to-do list.

Compare private security guards, like those who work in bars, malls and banks, to police officers to see what I am talking about.

Security guards only care about protecting private property and they will get fired if they do a bad job of it. Private security must strive for customer service or they will go out of business. Private security is voluntarily funded and is held accountable by the market.

Contrast that with the police who act like pirates, running around robbing people for going 10 over the speed limit, crossing a street outside of a crosswalk, or failing to put on a turn signal.

If the police acted like firemen, where they only came out when called for by the public, they might not be so bad. But that is not how they operate today. Today, they are nothing more than glorified pirates in pretty costumes. They are insulated from prosecution by the courts. They are insulated from competition by the law. They are a monopoly of violence.

As newton stated: For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.

Authority is unnatural and goes against our very nature; we were not meant to be idle and tame. It's not a question of revenge nor a question of duty, it's human nature. Give a man a stick and the right to use it and he'll go crazy, even more so if he's been put down his entire life. That's because we live within the confine or what society claim is acceptable behavior, denied the right to live according our primitive nature.

But that's the basic fear right there, that if we were to live without laws that we'd turn into animals, again I do not believe that to be so; If it were the case, we wouldn't have made it this far. Sure we crave brutality but only because it has been denied to us. Most people know of this, they feel it when something horrible happens on the news, that excitement. So laws create inequality and segregation which leads to social unrest. If laws were ultimately 'right', we would not have changed them so many times in the past. Most people recognize that religious institutions should not dictate laws and I'm hopeful that sometime in the near future we will not let pride, greed and hate dictate what is considered right or wrong.

We have not evolved since the creation of laws; we have devolved. Confined in tight quarters and running around senselessly like rats in cages instead of roaming freely in the world. People speak of freedom on this board but true freedom, the one our primitive selves yearn for seems to have been left behind. Now we crave attention and seek acceptance, fearing what would happen if we should be shun from society. Again, all lies meant to have people fall in line, to do as they are told, to think less and to consume.

I do have balls to admit when I am wrong thank you very much, I've only been stopped for minor things. And when I am in the wrong I totally admit it and apologize for my wrong doing. I was a cop in the Air Force, and think I have a pretty good judge of character, and know how to behave when confronted by a cop. Thats fine write me out a ticket, be professional, and be on your way, I don't ask for their opinion, or sarcasm, and I have dealt with some good cops.. But, when LEO are getting belligerent and abusive with power, thats where I draw the line. Most think they have to give their opinion to you, or (sound advice) or talk down to you in a condescending tone. When in uniform you are to act in a professional manner, and a lot of these so called cops out there don't know when they cross the line, and take it too far. For the most that do, ya I agree, we should pick them apart, and find any and every reason to bash them. These are my tax dollars going to someone who treats me this way, I will not put up with it. I have gotten into a couple arguments with cops, they can be wrong like anyone else. I will tell them exactly what I think of them, and give them my opinion. It's stopped some dead in there tracks, and I mean (crickets is all you hear)........ As far as I'm concerned let the cops get bashed, the majority make it too easy for themselves to get bashed, and most certainly have it coming. And if they are not careful the day will come when the bashing switches from verbal to physical.

Wanna know where the hating on cops comes from? It comes from police who abuse their badge and authority and commit real crimes that would have gotten you and me locked up with 6 months in jail or more, and instead of them seeing jail, they get a 2 week paid vacation and a promotion. If one cop in a prescinct is on the take, you can bet your boot straps theres alot more than just one. They are as human as you and me, if you think they don't feel temptation and succumb when they see millions of dollars in front of them from drug busts you are a fool. You also need to get a vasectomy or hystorectomy so you cannot procreate and pass on your stupidity to future generations.
