Dear coquine,
You said in your post that you don't care if hes innocent,as long as we are safe?

I'm assuming you don't care what happens to the innocent, until YOU are the innocent one going through public humiliation, with life long repurcussions?

Not saying he is innocent, but if he is, how terrible, and utterly criminal ,that he had to be put through such a humiliating ordeal.

I would still stand by this even if it was me. Because I recognize it isn't personal, if it is the practice with all people arrested. It is not for the protection of the public as much as protection of the police officers. (though the risk of the person getting away is relevant as well, not as much so, IMO).

In France convicted murders and child molestors get let out after a couple of years to go commit the same crimes again, so they are not perfect either. [/quote

France is not the only country who allows child rapists to be free after a few years.

Was watching a show the other day, where a young boy was brutalized by his father ,thrown into a closet for months at atime, given barely anything to survive on. He was smeared with feces and and pissed on. When his sister finally ran away from home and she told police, they came and rescued him. His father served less than 2 years in prison. That was in America.

Speculation on new IMF chief
Update: Tuesday, May 17, 2011, 19:05

The speculation about the succession of IMF chief Strauss-Kahn has increased since he joined the U.S. is stuck in a sex case. All names were circulating as the substantial risk that Strauss-Kahn would resign to stand as candidates for the French presidency.

Mr De Jager is with German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed that the new CEO to come back from Europe. That's tradition. The president of the World Bank is always an American.

Said the French Minister Lagarde, the former British Prime Minister Brown and President of the Polish central bank Belka.

Ah yes. The French Aristocracy and their "We Are Special" BS.

The Frech Aristocracy Can Kiss My Lily White Butt. The parts from Montbéliard, to the parts from the Isles.

You guys are freaking useless, but get all up in a bother when one of "your own" are treated just like anyone else is.

Whenever the stupid Aristocracy of the French speak, I understand why my country's Parliament buildings have the Unicorn Chained.

Some interesting twists to this story .......

A French writer who claims Dominique Strauss-Kahn sexually assaulted her nine years ago is to file an official complaint, her lawyer has announced. Tristane Banon previously described the attack, which happened when she was in her early 20s, in a television programme in 2007, when she called Strauss-Kahn, whose name was bleeped out, a "rutting chimpanzee." She says she consulted a lawyer at the time, but was persuaded not to take action by her mother, a regional councillor in the Socialist party and friend of the Strauss-Kahn family

link

and for the conspiracy angle there is this ........

Only three weeks ago, Strauss-Kahn evoked such a possibility in an interview with French newspaper Libération when he said he thought he was under surveillance and named the three principal difficulties he foresaw if he was to stand for the presidential elections. "Money, women and the fact I am Jewish. " He added: "Yes, I like women ... so what?" He said he could see himself becoming the victim of a honey trap: "a woman raped in a car park and who's been promised 500,000 or a million euros to invent such a story ..."

The presumption of innocence until proven guilty IS the bedrock of the judicial system and has been since the Magna Carter was signed in 1215, when that is changed to a presumption of guilt, as is happening now all over the world then we get dictatorships, we get stripped of what little chance we really have for justice, And that is why your logic is a pile of garbage

40-year-old suspect held in gruesome Manitoba bus killing

This is one example of why innocent until proven guilty is not fit for every situation. Over 40 people witnessed this horrific murder so why is it logical to presume innocent until proven guilty? If we presume innocent until proven guilty then basically we are saying a witness or victim is lying until proven to be telling the truth. How is that logical? The law has many holes in its logic unfortunately. If we are presented with undeniable facts, it is nothing but ilogical to ignore those facts for some altruistic belief. Without undeniable facts or proof the presumption of innocence should be upheld. It all comes down to the circumstances.

I have no doubt Strauss-Kahn raped that girl because he was in a top notch hotel and a naked chase was reported to have happend down a hall. I can guarantee that hall has camera's so this is most likely on tape. Add in physical evidence of rape on both the accused and accuser and its pretty clear he's guilty.

Perhaps the French will also now tell the yanks to go shove their special relationship.

You are silly. The US and France have never had a "special relationship". More of a "grudging tolerance"

The US and UK maybe had a special relationship, until the UK's citizens decided it would be easier to hate America, than their own politicians (That they elect) who are just as corrupt as the US's, and allow the UK to be dragged around into wars. Though the UK was pretty eager about Libya all on their own accord.

I don't know.. I think there is a new triple entente going on behind the scenes (UK France and US) especially since we all now share nuke facilities
and so my mind runs like this.. If Gordon Brown gets this position in the IMF then I'll be inclined to feel this was all some kind of honey trap.

Considering the fact that France hasn’t always abided by extradition treaties, I think it was good move to deny him bail.

No, they're shocked that America is unable to move into the 21st century. In the rest of the world we embrace innocence until proven guilty. Even in Britain the media have been expressing shock at his treatment. But again we rise above our criminals and take the moral high ground. America still have the death penalty.

As a nation you're really embarrassing yourselves and disgusting the world recently. The vile actions and viewpoints of your people is worrying. It's no wonder you're considered the biggest threat to world peace by everyone else, even your allies.

Steal a pack of chips in America and you'll see 10 years. It's a disgusting system that's stuck in the dark ages. Wake up to yourself you Mungos

Have you ever been to the UK? Anti-Establishment opinion has never been more prevalent. We hate both our own and your politicians. Don't think every country is filled with dumb patriots like yours.

Being French myself, I would just like to point out that most of the comments i can view here are pure stupidity. The thing with France, and some of the posts reflect it well, is that showing a man, whoever he is, and whatever he does, even before proven Guilty, just as well as if he was guilty, it is a mistake.

Whatever crime he might have committed and recognized guilty as charged, he, for sure, will have to bear the sheer consequences of his acts. (It happened in the US, then, if guilty, let him be sentenced according to US laws)

As for the quick and silly extend of mentionning that French have been murdering women and children, during colonisation, remember one thing: AMERICAN NATIVES.
As for the ally / not ally issue: where does the statue of liberty come from, and please get back to your history books and look for "La Fayette".

So, if the US is a real country of freedom and liberty, please, do not behave like those nazies who would condemn jews in the name of cliches and other "Mass Media" (at the time) info issued by "well-thinking" authorities.

Keep that in mind, you will see that the debate can be so much more productive.

You know... for a conspiracy website... I'm surprised that none of you are pointing out what might be the obvious.

He's a possible next in-line president of France and he's the head of the IMF which is currently negotiating terms with the EU and individual countries like Greece on sovereign debt and providing loans to help those countries.

Now this is the IMF... it's a freaking loan with interest to a country like Greece whose debt to GDP ratio is out of control... they will not be able to pay back their debts unless they get these loans interest free.

Now... what if Dominique Strauss-Kahn was turning against the tide within the IMF? What if he was wanting to offer the loans at stupid low rates and certain forces within the IMF got rid of him for it? Or what about French political rivalries?

I for one want to hear more of what the propaganda machine puts out on this...
Two million to sleep with an old bastard... make it a little rough... steal his cell phone in the process... then swear to God it was rape or we will kill all of your family... I'd take that offer if I was 32 and working as a maid.

Or maybe... a setup of a different kind... maybe he was promised a sexual fantasy by another big banking or political buddy... I could see someone telling him that if he likes it rough... we have a girl that will pretend it's rape... we'll dress her as a maid for the hotel so no one gets suspicious seeing a woman enter your room.

Have to remember this guy isn't an idiot and didn't become who he is by committing stupid crimes (he commits complex banking crimes) And I know there is another woman coming out saying that he assaulted her 10 years ago and I'm sure that it is possible... but it could also be part of the set-up now couldn't it?

Hell... anyone could be out to ruin this guy... people from Iceland, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal, many African countries... anyone that deals with the IMF and feels like their getting screwed could have a hate on for this guy.

ABSOLUTELY! How can we think anything else givin this guy's status and influence in the global community? C"mon, this guy could afford anything or anyone he wanted. I think he was set up. I'm sure 1/2 of the European world thinks the same.

This is America, "Innocent untill proven guilty!"

This is ATS! DENY INGNORANCE!

Hahahahahaha.

Ah yes, the head of the IMF, a boogeyman of the anti-NWO crowd who has been a known womanizer is now a cause celebre.

You guys hate the USA to the point of hurting yourselves. You could be used as an example of "cut off his nose to spite his face."

You also clearly don't know a damn thing about the sexual-control males preferences, that you think that being able to pay for sex would stop one from trying to take it or believing he's entitled to take it.

Finally an intelligent comment that includes the whole picture to this lurid scenario. Thank you!

And for those of you who think it's funny to be dragged off an airplane and paraded in handcuffs in front of the media before receiving a fair hearing, only to be incarcerated without bail....

.... I don't think you'll find it's so funny when it happens to you. Anyone can be arrested and incarcerated in the United States today for almost any reason.

So today I see a story that one of the reasons the Judge gave for refusing bail is that this guy is a flight risk, due to the French's refusal to extradite Roman Polanski to face sex charges in the USA.

The French are outraged? Well, maybe if they settled an over 20 year old case with a simple extradition, they wouldn't have to feign such outrage over the fact that a guy against whom there seems to be credible evidence against for sex crimes is actually put in jail for a change.

I would hope that the Americans respond with outrage of their own that the French won't extradite a convicted criminal to face the music.

Of course, they could end up with some sort of trade. We'll release the head of the IMF to your custody if you return Polanski to face the music for a crime he's been on the run from for over 20 years.

Oh Dear God, please not Gordon Brown. He was almost single handedly responsible for the worldwide foreclosure crisis and the trading of the junk derivatives market in the USA and UK. He sold the UK's gold reserve (The entire thing) for a "record" $350 an ounce. Gordon Brown as head of the IMF would be a disaster for the world.
