PARIS - French Socialist politicians voiced outrage on Tuesday at the parading of IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn handcuffed and unshaven in the United States before he has a chance to defend himself on charges of attempted rape.

Arrested on Saturday and charged with sexually assaulting a chambermaid at a luxury New York hotel, Strauss-Kahn was made by police to walk manacled in front of cameras on his way to a courthouse, and his appearance before a judge was televised.

Former Culture Minister Jack Lang described the treatment of the Socialist presidential frontrunner — whose political career is now in tatters — as a “lynching” that had “provoked horror and aroused disgust”.

Well isn't that just too bad. The elites of France are angry over one of their own being shown in such a embarrassing manner. Heaven forbid someone as rich, powerful, and influential as this rapist be treated like a commoner.

Ahhh, I drink the outrage of France's elite and it is sweet.

I am sure they are shocked that someone so powerful would be treated like a common criminal and thrown in general population. Makes me proud to be an American.

Considering the fact that France hasn’t always abided by extradition treaties, I think it was good move to deny him bail.

I was just reading this morning that in France it is against the law to photograph a defendant wearing handcuffs as they believe that the showing of such photos affects the perception of innocence until proven guilty. I don't think this is an elitist reaction inherent in French culture it's just a difference in laws in place around presumed innocence. Stop with the bashing already.

Oh come on. I don't care what the law is in France, he was arrested in the United States. This man is a rapist and if he was tarred and feathered before being led into court I wouldn't shed a tear. This man was apparently likely to be the next president of France, so if you don't think there is some elitest outrage going on then you better give your head a shake.

The money was bitching about his treatment. I wonder what they would have said had the slime made it out of the country. I heard on the radio yesterday that at leats 1 woman in France stepped forward to claim he did it to her before and her mom talked her into silence.

I have no doubt that he performed some forms of sexual acts with the maid....Against her will, I doubt it.

This is one of the most powerful men, if not the most powerful man in the banking industry. He can have any woman he likes, in discretion, at any price point he would like. For him to put his career in jeopardy like this is highly improbable. This is not a stupid man we are talking about.

The reason the police nabbed him at the airport is because he called the hotel from the airport and asked them to bring his phone to the terminal. That does not sound like a man who was fleeing in fear of being nabbed for his prior deed. This is something that happens to wealthy men in America and around the world everyday. Maid finds out this man is worth billions, sees a payday and cries wolf. It's sickening.

If i'm wrong than he deserves this treatment, if I'm right than we (USA), made ourselves look like fools.

He is not guilty yet. There's is nothing then a word from a woman. This could kill someone's imago, even when proven not guilty.

I really am amazed at that little arrogant country and it's people. Do they actually believe their opinion matters in any way? I recall several examples of them being extremely difficult with the United States in circumstances that are very similar.

The IMF is a corrupt and useless Anti American Bank. It funds terrorism more than any country in the world.Their king really showed their class or lack of that the IMF and the French in general are so famous for. I think it's comical and sad that the socialists are more upset about this clowns image than they are for his criminal behavior.

The french can be mad until their blue in face. lol They can ever declare war. They'll just surrender the following day. Their anger should be at their corrupt leaders. That scumbag is getting treated better than I have been I did what he did. That's for sure. She picked him out of a line up and they have his DNA and Blood. And then his attempted escape. And you know this isn't the first time he's raped a woman. A man in his position gets how many get out of jail free cards for favors such as loans or even gift's. I hope he rot's in jail the rest of his miserable life.

He'll probably end up getting elected as president by the people of France while he's in jail. They are making it clear that they support his criminal behavior.

France hasn't been our friend or ally since we saved their country from the Nazi's for the second time. Oh well maybe for a little while later when they got us into Vietnam. They vote against us at the UN more than China and Russia. But really even if they were.our ally, what kinda of people support a man like that'? .

The french have a hard time understanding how anyone can be photographed in handcuffs like that before they have been judged guilty, because it does effect the opinions of others. If the man is proven innocent, it won't make any difference- his life will be finished.

I personally don't give a crud if innocent people get humiliated, it is worth it to be safe rather than sorry IMO.
But just pointing out that they are as serious about that with common nobodies as they are about public figures, it is not a matter of who he is.

They also aren't demanding that the US change their procedures, just shocked and outraged that that IS our normal procedures- most didn't know that. Most humans tend to assume others are like ourselves until we see evidence of otherwise. (then, obviously we misunderstand reasoning and intent, as what happened in this thread! LOL!)

They have a rape kit, his blood, his DNA, and the fact he left everything and jumped on the first flight to France with no reservation. He has a special pass from France. She also picked the clown out of a line up after he hadn't shaved since it happened. How much evidence do you think they need? He is toast.

I'm wrong on the rape kit I think. But DNA and all the rest, He's definitely guilty. Whats his defense going to be? That he's French it's okay?

He never would have beat the current President in an election any how. The French have their colonal war drums beating again. That other clown will get reelected.

Its all assuming. The story could be entirely different.

Of course his DNA is there? Of course if she has seen him, she would pick him out of a line.

You know... for a conspiracy website... I'm surprised that none of you are pointing out what might be the obvious.

He's a possible next in-line president of France and he's the head of the IMF which is currently negotiating terms with the EU and individual countries like Greece on sovereign debt and providing loans to help those countries.

Now this is the IMF... it's a freaking loan with interest to a country like Greece whose debt to GDP ratio is out of control... they will not be able to pay back their debts unless they get these loans interest free.

Now... what if Dominique Strauss-Kahn was turning against the tide within the IMF? What if he was wanting to offer the loans at stupid low rates and certain forces within the IMF got rid of him for it? Or what about French political rivalries?

I for one want to hear more of what the propaganda machine puts out on this...
Two million to sleep with an old bastard... make it a little rough... steal his cell phone in the process... then swear to God it was rape or we will kill all of your family... I'd take that offer if I was 32 and working as a maid.

Or maybe... a setup of a different kind... maybe he was promised a sexual fantasy by another big banking or political buddy... I could see someone telling him that if he likes it rough... we have a girl that will pretend it's rape... we'll dress her as a maid for the hotel so no one gets suspicious seeing a woman enter your room.

Have to remember this guy isn't an idiot and didn't become who he is by committing stupid crimes (he commits complex banking crimes) And I know there is another woman coming out saying that he assaulted her 10 years ago and I'm sure that it is possible... but it could also be part of the set-up now couldn't it?

Hell... anyone could be out to ruin this guy... people from Iceland, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Portugal, many African countries... anyone that deals with the IMF and feels like their getting screwed could have a hate on for this guy.

Let them eat cake.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Given the circumstances surrounding the arrest and the way the propoganda machine was immediately sent into action, I wouldn't be jumping to any conclusions.

It might be a good idea for him to call Julian Assange for some legal advice asap.
