You know what. You non-smokers seriously tick me off with this crap.

In a world where you have no control you start reaching around you for something to make you feel like you have it.

How can you seriously respect yourself when you live in an environment which is constantly poisoning you? Why don't you make a list and start with the big crap first and work your way down to cigarettes.

Most people are willing to take shovel fulls of crap on a daily basis and they smile and ask for more but god forbid they smell 'second hand smoke'.

This thread on this site is an embarrassment.

Also cigarettes are the only other place you can get acetylcholine other than from inside yourself.
Considering all of the environmental factors that lead to brain-fog and other debilitations of the modern world smoking may be one of the only ways to keep your mind really sharp and alert. And Lord knows the world needs more Lerts. Not only that but some of our brains need lots of acetylcholine.

Maybe you should consider taking up smoking.

Ed: Holy crap, here we go. I just noticed the OP's name. Doctor Namtab. Well doctor; what do have to say to that? And be sure to tell the truth about studies that have been done on people who smoke 10 cigarettes a day or less. What's that? There are none?

That's what I'm talking about.

Every day you see a beer can in the street, on the sidewalk, in your front yard or outside your apartment complex. Everyday people put pointless poison into their body, alcohol which they know will kill them. Its been proven and yet, these people do not care for themselves and continue to drink it.

I can understand why people smoke marijuana. But booz? You cant even drive on it.

My friend paid 8 bucks for a 6 pack of beer the other day. Thats two gallons of gas.

Drinkers are violent, dont respect themselves, their environment and often times, not even the people around them.

My point isn't to moralize about drinking. You can do whatever you want as long as it isnt hurting anyone.

My point is: How can we possibly save the world when so many people don't even care about themselves? So many people are purposely killing themselves. Why? When so many people throw their beer bottles, and cans , out a car window how can we reverse the toxic effects of corporate pollution? Which is a much more complex problem.

Change starts with you. If you drink, how can you possibly respect and love yourself? If you don't respect yourself how can you respect the planet and the 7 billion other people on it?

Drinking breed's apathy. Are the billion apathetic drinkers holding us back from true revolution?

HAHAHHAHA

So I skimmed as much as I could, I had to reply.

I am a smoker, have been for 11 years.
What makes you think I do not care for myself? Or my world around me?
Because you see cigarette butts on the ground?
OH NO, MERCY Me...... just look past all the cups and paper, and all the other trash all over the place. Good job singling out someone different than you.

"Hey everyone, I have noticed a lot of soda cups tossed around."
"Why is it all soda drinkers hate the environment?"
"Soda drinkers have no respect for themselves, I mean I understand beer, and liquor, but soda? I just don't get it, and it is so unhealthy."

See where I am going? You can pick on anyone if you try hard enough.

You want to know why I smoke?

YOU Have Got To Be Kidding Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stop your nonsense, man. Are you seriously asking this question considering all of the environmental and social factors in our world. That means all of the walking wounded. All of the trauma? All of the heartache?
You make me want to scream.
We are going to ignite the revolution by not smoking? Smoking breeds apathy?
Smoking gets s$!t done, pal. People reach for a smoke because they have to keep on producing; usually under entirely intolerable conditions I don't know what kind of world you live in but revolution is not going to be fomented in some clean sterile office somewhere.
I think I have never seen so short sighted an anti-smoking rant in my life. No, seriously you are either having an off day or you just can't see past your nose.

Ed: This is why things are f'ed up, people.
Because people generally only listen to people with letters behind their name and a lot of the people with letters in behind their names are about as intelligent as a box of dicks.

Can we please just stop with the smoking threads on ATS. These are getting so tiresome. Everyone trying to dictate other peoples lives and decisions. We are adults, we make our own choices. Let's worry about all the other major things going on(ex. radiation in the air.collapse of dollar etc. ) Stop trying to tell everyone else how to run their lives??? nuff said!

First, it is a poor idea to "change society" in an effort to force change on individuals.

Second, tobacco - pure, organic tobacco - does NOT cause cancer. In 50+ years of having cancer-prone rodents breathe tobacco smoke NONE have shown a link.

But... The carcinogenic chemicals tobacco is steeped in or otherwise treated with, the fiberglass filters, and the radioactive "fertilizer" They require tobacco be grown in... These are cancer-causing.

Check out this thread for more information on WHY They want Us to believe tobacco is the culprit:

Great topic that really hits home. I used smokeless tobacco for over 15 years off and on. I used it as an excuse after I got hooked. I would say it helps my stress just like so many others or it helps me not eat too much. Always an excuse. I finally woke up last years at 38 years old. I was on a hand full of prescription pills along with a very strong narcotic. After a lifetime of spine issues and three major spine fusions I went along with the good old doctors who would never do no harm. Anyway after 12 years of pills I found a natural cure for everyone of those deadly substances I put in my body. When I found this natural cure I realized everything I was every told about my health problems and what needs to be done to fix those health problems was a lie. That is the day I start researching every truth site on the net. I have found so many lies that we are being told that I believe we are living in the Twilite Zone or just a created illusion. Maybe this planet is like many have said. Nothing but a War Planet and to expect anything less than lies is never going to happen. If the Elite bloodlines get removed then another part of the same bloodline will move in to replace the aging groups. The Elite bloodlines have been around since the days of the written history so to think we can remove them is also a fantasy.

As far as people smoking or drinking alcohol which is much more deadly than smoking is we should not bash people for what they like to do. It should not matter to me if my best friends smoke or drink. Sure I would like to see them stop but that is their choice and not mine. Live by being a positive example. Never criticize somone without walking in their shoes.

I still think that this varies from person to person. It can't be that hard to put down a cigarette for a day. The key is to find something to replace that cigarette, such as gum or whatnot.

I can only see this thread ending badly though as the pro-smoking people will use it to whine about their freedoms being removed.

This is the classic pro-smoking argument: Blame alcohol while ignoring the impact of smoking.

How about we agree that BOTH are bad for you?

All things in moderation.

I quit for my own personal satisfaction nothing more. I'm satisfied knowing I'll be healthier and wealthier in the long run.

But for all you smokers out there, keep smoking! Unless you find yourself a reason to quit, then Quit! Reminds me of a quote; "a student asked a zen master what was the meaning of enlightenment, the master pondered then said: when thirsty, drink. When tired, sleep. When hungry, eat"

Listen to your inner guide, it knows what you need.

I feel the exact same way as you. People cannot and should not force anyone to do what they want. That is the mind control programming that we have developed from the good old Elites who love to divide and conquer. Everything you see is divide and conquer from Fox News vs CNN or Whites vs Blacks vs Hispanic.

When you stop allowing the noise that surrounds us with TV or talk radio, you will learn to think for yourself and therefore waken a bit more than before when you believed everything that is being controlled and sent out over the airwaves. When people want to quite they will, no one should demand it or force it because that causes division. When the time is right then the change will occur. Always has and Always will.

I've got some news for you, OP.

People have been smoking cigarettes for a long time, and some of the wisest and most enlightened people have indulged in cancerous habits.

Don't like it? Fine.

However, your point is completely exempt of anything you are trying to prove, and is just another "Don't like what I don't like" thread.

Sorry to tell you OP, and whoever agrees with OP, but you're worse then a cigarette smoker if you find it imperative to pass judgement on them. They don't pass judgement on you for not smoking, do they?

Take your childish biases elsewhere, these threads are monotonous and pose no contribution to intelligent discussion.

Oh, now why would ANYONE "whine" about liberties being removed? I mean, who needs 'em, right? Let's strip the rest of liberty away while we're at it. YOU can't listen to loud music - because I don't like it and I think it will hurt your ears, so for YOUR protection, I think we should ban the loud music.

Geez.

You stole my post amaterasu!! Both of my grandfathers smoked a pipe. They started in their teens. It was just 100% good old virginia burly(nice smellin' stuff). No filler, no paper, and no chemical aging. They both lived into their late 80's, and could whoop a man half their ages till shortly before they died. I have been a piper since I was about 22 years old. I can run a 12 minute mile. I hardly ever get respiratory infections. In fact I'm rarely ever sick.

Interesting though that when my grandfathers died in their late 80s, one of a congenital aneurysm, and the other from parkinson's they were both officially counted by the CDC as "smoking related deaths." Did you also know that smokers who die in MVAs are counted as smoking deaths by the CDC? That's right it wasn't that steering wheel through the chest that killed them it was the evil cigarettes. The CDC lies, and has been caught at it several times. Why? because they think the unbias data from tobacco research wouldn't scare you enough, so they "fluff" it.

I don't think your attitude or the attitude of the other pro-smokers is very helpful.

Yes, god forbid someone take away your right to blow smoke at another person, who probably doesn't wish to breathe it in, especially in a public space.

It's very telling when one poster constantly rips apart the OP in not one, but three separate posts.

Calm down people. No one's suggesting you put down your cigarettes.

However, if you don't take the time to find out just what you're putting into your body, the bodies of others (unwillingly) and the air, then that is ignorance too.

Be mine sister salvation!!!

You're extremely helpful attitude has convinced me after 15 years to stop smoking. After all
as you said It's "easy." I have finally seen the light. I never realised that every time a smoker defended their position regardless of methodogy that it is always "whining." Since non-smokers are defacto correct 100% of the time, and smokers attitudes are simply not helpful by default.

Come on!!! Really? You cannot be so blind to your own bias in this.

I'm sure we could bicker back and forth everyday but nothing would ever get done.

So therefore, I will agree to disagree and be on my merry way.

I have other grievances about smokers but I will save them for people who actually have the patience to listen and don't turn into rabid attack dogs.

I really don't understand what you're asking us to reply to other than attack you for attacking us.

You've painted a nasty, dirty picture that people who smoke don't care for the world around them and then ask for people to stop attacking you?

Did you know there was a lot of people who contributed to the world that smoked?
Alber Einstein, Tom Edison, Hubble, Bell, Carter, Palmer, Churchill, Roosevelt need I go on?

You can't tar everyone with the same brush. (pardon the pun)

As for your question. Even puffing away on a cigarette we can still take a stand for what's right. Who's concern is it whether I'm smoking or not? It's not your money I'm spending, I'm not actively going out of my way to blow smoke into your face and give you the finger.

Smokers are not bad people as a whole, it's a bad decision, but everyone has a vice. Whether it's watching porn, sleeping around, eating fatty foods, drinking alcohol. Vices are everywhere.

They'd also never ban cigarettes, because the simple fact is, they make too much money from selling them.

Fair enough.

Yes, god forbid someone take away your right to blow smoke at another person, who probably doesn't wish to breathe it in, especially in a public space.

1. No One is asking for the right to "blow smoke at another person." Just the right to use herbal products in whatever fashion We see fit.

2. In public places, there is plenty of room to go elsewhere. The smoke One might get is confined, swiftly disbursed, and if One does not like the smell, think of it much like the city buses - MAN do they stink! (And likely FAR less healthy to breathe than tobacco. Hey! Let's ban buses!) But then the stink goes away.

It's very telling when one poster constantly rips apart the OP in not one, but three separate posts.

LOL! "Rips apart?" I do believe I made points. I guess they were sharp if You see them as "rip[ping] apart" the OP. Awesome that.

Calm down people. No one's suggesting you put down your cigarettes.

Ok. It wasn't clear from the perceived attitude...

However, if you don't take the time to find out just what you're putting into your body, the bodies of others (unwillingly) and the air, then that is ignorance too.

I have. Tobacco - which does no harm - and may protect from radiation ingestion (did you know that they had cancer prone rodents that were "smoking" 24/7 and they put them in with a study that was "feeding" the rodents radioactive particles. Whereas ALL the "non-smokers" died - 16% of the "smokers" did not... Think about that!)...

Tobacco, various chemicals added to promote cancer. I smoke unfiltered, self-rolled cigs, so no fiberglass (a very large percentage of tumors removed from smokers' lungs have pieces of fiberglass at their core...).

Perhaps you should educate yourself about tobacco - and bus exhaust.
