rap and hip hop is different

rap is raw, uncut (usually has the worst lang. in it)

hip hop is not so raw (still foul lang. but way less and you can actually play it while in the car with parents)

example
gucci mane = mostly rap
wiz khalifa = mostly hip hop

wiz made cabin fever mixtape which was WAAAAAAAAAY different from what he usually does that mixtape is an example of "rap" but kush & oj mixtape was hip hop

they both rap because thats what they are "doing" but they're music can be in different categorys
the type of lyrics in the song and sometimes the beat can make it rap or hip hop

I'm sorry, you lose ALL credibilty for mentioning, let along ACTUALLY thinking Wiz is good. He's absolute garbage and your opinion just went down the toilet along with his crap. I had to point out this blasphemy fully by quoting the absolute filth of the post in its entirety.

As with most main stream music, it is used as a tool. Main stream rap is definatly a big tool used by the TPTB. However there are definatly some rap out there that really makes you think. Its not the entire genre that is dumbing down people, its the stuff that you hear on the radio thats crap. Never condem an entire group or genre over the actions of the few. Its never a good idea.

dont leave a pot on the stove unwatched...(my friend used to tell me this when we argue and i say i dont want to talk about it anymore)

you stated your opinion (which didnt make sense to me anyways) now im going to state mine whether you read it or not someone will see it and thats the beauty of the interwebs

sooooo..
first of all i dont like beiber (hate that lil kid, not him as a person but as a musician) and i dont like usher
2nd usher doesnt rap, beiber doesnt rap, so neither of them belong in this category unless you are throwing ushers name in there simply because he is black...
i agree with you beiber is cap and usher is crap but they are both singers not rappers dont know why you even brought them up, i wasnt even talking about them
and 3rdly somebody cares because we are having a discussion on it and you took the time to bring it up and and quote me on it (when i dont care about something i dont waste my time on it)

and yea my music is crap but every other genre of music was crap to some ppl at some time in history soo yea, and you feel dumb for stating your opinion maybe there something wrong with you (you should have that checked out)

What a retarded thread.
Mainstream anything can be arguably dumbing people down, be it rap, rock, etc.

What are you wanting. essays?
What form of music isn't a pretty shallow explanation of what a day in the life is like...

Yes, jay-z's big pimpin is sexist and horrible, but motley crew's girls girls girls is totally genius food.

As far as rap songs "worthy of a conspiracy website"..well my friend, I give you..the juice.

So ultimately ops...your simply saying you don't like rap music, therefore its made for idiots...sure, whatever...go back to sleep and keep with your narrow viewpoint of the world...best not to learn about things when you can just judge
yo
naa mean..ya, shizzle for rizzle

Rap music is doing worse than that.

Not only is it dumbing kids down, but it is making it ok to treat women like crap, to shoot people, to drop out of school and to disrespect everyone in general.

And it is supporting racism.

"When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"
But I shot a man in Reno,
Just to watch him die..."

This isn't something new.

That Ras Kass came to my mind on page 2. Glad to see it posted.
Rap music doesnt dumb down people, record companies have alot more to do with what you listen to on the radio. Everything else is word of mouth. But heres a nice one

I love that Lube Song ^^^ andother classic is Nas' "What Goes Around" :

[Chorus]
Ayo its poison, ecstacy, coke
You say its love, it is poison
Schools where I learned they should be burned, it is poison
Physicians prescripting us medicine which is poison
Doctors injecting our infants with the poison
Religion misoverstood is poison

[Verse 1]
Niggas up in my hood be getting shot giving poison
In hospitals, shots rittle the block
Little children and elderly women run for their lives
Drizzling rain come out the sky every time somebody dies,
Must be out my #ing mind, what is this, the hundreth time?
Sending flowers to funerals, reading rest in peace
You know the usual, death comes in threes
Life is short is what some nigga said
Not if you measure life by how one lives and what he did
Its funny how these black killer companies is making money off us
Fast food, colas, sodas skull and bone crossers

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
Sisters up in my hood trying to do good given choices
When pregnant drop out of school or have abortions
Stop working hoping that they find a man that will support them
Up late night on they mothers cordless, thinking a perm or
Bleaching cream will make better when they gorgeous
White girls tanning, lypo suction
Fake titties are implanted, fake lips thats life destruction
Lightskin women, bi-racial hateful toward themselves
Denying even they blood
I don't judge Tiger Woods but I overstand the mental poison
Thats even worser than drugs

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Radio and TV poison, white Jesus poison
And any thoughts of taking me down is poison
Who want beef now, my heat shell annoyed them, plaow

[Talking]
Never to worry, all the wrong doers got it coming back to em
A thousand times over
Every dog has its day and everything flips around
Even the most greatest nation in the world has it coming back to em
Everyone reaps what they sew that's how it goes
Innocent lives will be taken, it may get worse but we'll get through it
Yall be strong

[Verse 4]
The China-men built the railroad
The Indians saved the Pilgrim
And in return the Pilgrim killed em
They call it it Thanksgiving, I call your holiday hellday
Cause I'm from poverty, neglected by the wealthy
Me and my niggas share gifts every day like Christmas
Slay bitches and party everyday like this is the last
I'm with my heckles connecting and we hitting the lad
This is my level, # if it get you mad
It's all poison, all of my words to enemies it is poison
Rappers only talk about ki's, its all poison
How could you call yourself emcees you ain't poison
Think about the kids you mislead with the poison
And any thoughts of taking me down is all poison
Who want beef now, my heat shell annoyed them, plaow

Tupac had a lot of ATS-Like sentiments:
www.youtube.com...
With all this extra stressin
The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath
When will I finaly get to rest? Through this supression
they punish the people that's askin questions
And those that possess, steal from the ones without possesions
The message I stress: to make it stop study your lessons
Don't settle for less - even the genius asks-es questions
Be grateful for blessings
Don't ever change, keep your essence
The power is in the people and politics we address
Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic
And when you get stranded
And things don't go the way you planned it
Dreamin of riches, in a position of makin a difference
Politicians and hypocrites, they don't wanna listen
If I'm insane, it's the fame made a brother change
It wasn't nuttin like the game
It's just me against the world

I really like Lupe Fiasco. Thumps up! Im sure many here have heard of Immortal Tech. I know this has some serious language so if a mod wants they can remove it but its a good song with a deep message. Get past the chorus and listen to the whole thing (I know many will stop after the first 20 seconds because of the chorus).

I'm not into rap or hip hop that much, except the underground one. Its so damned amazing and their tunes are even better than the commercial one which by the way is the one that corrupts kids and supports racism and things like that.

We should stop commercial music in its tracks because that is the one that is the bad guy.

Eminem is actually pretty cool. This is the song that made me respect him.

I hope all these vids have provided enough credibility for rap that isnt just about girls with big booties and bouncing cars.

If there is a conspiracy in rap its the propping up of commercialized rappers and the subsequent attempt to paint all rappers in the same negative/dumbing down/evil/devilish brush.

The same was done to Elvis, and John Lenin, and Harry Belefonte, and Bob Marley, and Tupac Shakur.

Immortal Technique is awesome:

[Talking]
The new age is upon us
And yet the past refuses to rest in its shallow grave
For those who hide behind the false image of the son of man
shall stand before God!!! It has begun
The beginning of the end
Yeah..
Yeah... yeah, yeah

[Verse 1]
The voice of racism preaching the gospel is devilish
A fake church called the prophet Muhammad a terrorist
Forgetting God is not a religion, but a spiritual bond
And Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Qu'ran
They bombed innocent people, tryin' to murder Saddam
When you gave him those chemical weapons to go to war with Iran
This is the information that they hold back from Peter Jennings
Cause Condoleeza Rice is just a new age Sally Hemmings
I break it down with critical language and spiritual anguish
The Judas I hang with, the guilt of betraying Christ
You murdered and stole his religion, and painting him white
Translated in psychologically tainted philosophy
Conservative political right wing, ideology
Glued together sloppily, the blasphemy of a nation
Got my back to the wall, cause I'm facin' assassination
Guantanamo Bay, federal incarceration
How could this be, the land of the free, home of the brave?
Indigenous holocaust, and the home of the slaves
Corporate America, dancin' offbeat to the rhythm
You really think this country, never sponsored terrorism?
Human rights violations, we continue the saga
El Savador and the contras in Nicaragua
And on top of that, you still wanna take me to prison
Just cause I won't trade humanity for patriotism

[Hook]
It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view of the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandana full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Read about the history of the place that we live in
And stop letting corporate news tell lies to your children

[Verse 2]
Flow like the blood of Abraham through the Jews and the Arabs
Broken apart like a woman's heart, abused in a marriage
The brink of holy war, bottled up, like a miscarriage
Embedded correspondents don't tell the source of the tension
And they refuse to even mention, European intervention
Or the massacres in Jenin, the innocent screams
U.S. manufactured missles, and M-16's
Weapon contracts and corrupted American dreams
Media censorship, blocking out the video screens
A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain
Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin'
The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason
A desert full of genocide, where the bodies are freezin'
And the world doesn't believe that you fightin' for freedom
Cause you #ed the Middle East, and gave birth to a demon
It's open season with the CIA, bugging my crib
Trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid
Where nobody gives a # whether you die or you live
I'm tryin' to give the truth, and I know the price is my life
But when I'm gone they'll sing a song about Immortal Technique
Who beheaded the President, and the princes and sheiks
You don't give a # about us, I can see through your facade
Like a fallen angel standing in the presence of God
Bitch niggaz scared of the truth, when it looks at you hard

[Hook]
It's like MK-ULTRA, controlling your brain
Suggestive thinking, causing your perspective to change
They wanna rearrange the whole point of view in the ghetto
The fourth branch of the government, want us to settle
A bandana full of glittering, generality
Fighting for freedom and fighting terror, but what's reality?
Martial law is coming soon to the hood, to kill you
While you hanging your flag out your project window

[Talking]
Yeah..
The fourth branch of the government AKA the media
Seems to now have a retirement plan for ex-military officials
As if their opinion was at all unbiased
A machine shouldn't speak for men
So shut the # up you mindless drone!
And you know it's serious
When these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign
To try to convince you they're fair and balanced
When they're some of the most ignorant, and racist people
Giving that type of mentality a safe haven
We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do
We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards!
We don't get weapons contracts, nigga!
We don't get cheap labor for our companies, nigga!
We are cheap labor, nigga!
Turn off the news and read, nigga!
Read... read... read...

I just thought I would throw something out there for everyone to consider, and I apologize if someone has already mentioned this, as I haven't gone through the entire thread yet. Could it be that the dumbing down of children in public schools, or just most children in general, is the factor contributing to the dumbing down of music?

I don't really think I could currently agree with my own statement, but it's something to think about. Which was dumbed down first, the music or the people making the music?

The dumbing down of our culture is because people in the highest echilons of power want a predictable stable society that they can manipulate without fear of random changes. Manufactured media and music is the best example of this. The powers that be dont want new concepts unless they are the ones who put them into society.
