Well If you bothered to read that, what they are talking about in not the internet as a whole, but rather on individual networks connected to the internet

The point I'm trying to make is, this is just the beginning if it ever happens. I seriously doubt the government will allow individuals to secure there own network in the future. I just think in the end we may ultimately loose the internet but you never know.

the traditional job of government(contrary to the illusion of government) has been to control the flow of information.
'they' WILL take the net, eventually. alternate point to point protocols will spring up in rebellion, but be clear that it WILL be rebellion.
the 'author-ities' like to write history their way, and never seem to let ANYTHING stand in the way. the recent wave of condoned torture is a return to the inquisition. these big changes require a little time, so 'isolated cases' is a non-argument.
it is principles and precedents that are the main actors on this stage. stand by them, if you believe yourself to be of good character. there are grey times here and ahead.

The bottom line is this, the government - now all powerful - can and will do whatever they deem necessary to ensure their goals and survival. Screw the useless feeders. Our need for information/internet doesn't mean anything to those behind the curtains. If they chose to pull the power plug, there would be little we could do about it. And as I've said before, if it gets to that point, folks aren't gonna be sitting around surfing the net. Their problems are gonna dwarf any and all of that. It'll be all about survival. Going online will be the last thing on your minds.

Here's a good reason I don't have the internet at home.

Latest News

According to BBC News Online, a new project funded by the United States Defense Department and the Central Intelligence Agency is designed to find out the geographical location of a person based on 'references from text documents such as e-mails or webpages.'

Soon enuff they'll be knocking down folks' homes for being an online terrorist.

Not gonna happen. Sorry to spoil the doom party.
Among the most important things (if not most important) for any government is a vital national economy. A significant majority of the economy relies on various types of communications over the Internet. If "the Internet" went down, so would the economy.

Sorry all but SO is correct. The internet is not going away. It can be monitored, manipulated, sections can be shut, routes can change.. but there is no way the governmetn can turn it off. There are networks world wide, there are providers world wide. Connections via copper, fiber, microwave, and satalite connecitons.

Only way your going to shut it down is a world wide EMP and if that happens we have bigger problems.

As for biblical scripture proficies. It is as facinating reading as any other mythology. Noris Stories of Ragnarok, or any of the many mythological end of days stories.

Sorry didn't go through all the posts, but would the internet be "banned"
only in the US?
How many companies rely on the internet for day to day business?
I could see them banning content maybe. As far as banning the internet
totally I couldn't see it happening, merely because of the way the internet
works.

I do remember days before the Internet however and I'm sure we
will all survive without it

NEVER say NEVER.

Your condescension is predictable. And your opinion on the reality of the end of days is just that. If it is true, I truly feel sorry for those of you who scoffed.

I do believe and I predict we are in for times that will make your worst nightmares look silly. If you think you'll give a damn about the internet in those times - other than for purposes of communication - those dangers aside - think again. You'll be worrying about your very survival and that of your loved ones.

Like you have your opinion, so too, do I.

It IS possible to effectively suppress the populist attributes of the internet. ECK is right. The poster from the old Fidonet had a point, though. To stop the re-emergence of the net as we know it, modem use would have to be licensed and controlled, easy enough to do. Mobile illicit wireless? Possible...

Quote: "We all know the power elites have co-opted the Mainstream Press, TV and Radio. They have not been so successful at stopping the spread of information and discussion on the Internet. They do not like this."

Yeah tell me about it! Time, Newsweek, The Washington Post, CNN,
FOX News, NBC News - They might as well call themselves The CIA, NSA, FBI, Whitehouse & Illuminati "News"!

I don't think that the Internet will ever be shut down - I don't think that the COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATIONS would take nicely to the Government telling them that their Business is now ILLEGAL - But they are ALREADY building a TREMENDOUS amount of CONTROLS into it!

That Absolute Crap that McLoser George Tenet said about the Web really Pissed me off! Scapegoating Bastards! We the People ARE the Government - How are we going to keep track of "Governmental Activities" if we can't Communicate! See this is what I am talking about!
Islamic Terrorists are NOT the only Terrorists in the World! The Government throws the word "Terrorist" around all the time - yet HAS NOT DEFINED IT!!!

Next comes DOMESTIC TERRORIST = Non Violent Dissenting Political Subversive! This is the Road to FACISM my friends!!!

P.S. ASScroft - HA - Good One!

Just like Biblical prophecies of doom and end-times, people have been saying we are on the verge of the worst-of-the-worst most-terrible end-time every year for the past 200 years. Overall, the total global condition is significantly better now than it was 80 years ago. And the Internet? It's staying.

I think the Internet is staying (but I think it will get extra functionalities in due course). I think the USG could control many aspects of it within its own boundaries but if you totally shut down ONE internet, all the technology's there just to set up alternative internets in loads of other countries. More likely is that add-on extras will be developed which can be charged for or controlled by central government. It just depends how draconian you think the future's going to get.

The drafters of the Patriot Act knew just what they were doing. They knew when it was passed by Congress, that the multitudes(me and you) would eventually have to bow and that time is coming soon. I would be willing to bet when the first major internet attack happens, they will not hesitate to shut it down in the name of National Security. The fact is that the Patriot Act is a legal tool that the govt. will use to deny acess to information. Once they step over this line in the sand, watch out; for a civil war is not too far behind. I am not advocating this I'm just stating that this will really piss off a bunch of folks. Can you imange not being able to pay your bills electronically, or to even order your medicine? It's a sad thing to say but it is only just a matter of time. Remember this past year when like a third of the nation was left in the darkness? All of the power stations went down? They said it was due to a computer glitch. B...S...! North Korea is now and has been training agents in cyber warfare and for all we know, so has OBL and his merry band of thugs. Most people do not have a clue to how much of our world depends on the use of the internet and when it's taken away the feces will then hit the fan.

Right now the Internet is being kept from a portion of the people. There are certain web sites that you cannot access based on your zip code.

Huh???? I don't think so. Do you have anything to back this up?

I'm not sure about being based on your zip code, but certainly some
countries keep certain websites from it's people.

Here is a site on Internet Censorship a bit of a long read but worth it.

We shall see. You know no more than I do what the future holds. You either believe in God and the prophecies or you don't. The readers of this thread can take their pick. Regardless, it's always a sure thing to be prepared for whatever scenario unfolds.

Here's what I believe is true. The internet is essential for the economy, is not true. The internet's main product--ideas and information--is dominated, I believe 60%, by porn. It's THE medium for disseminating porn.

I had a friend in Portland Oregon a few years ago, and when I walked into his house there was a set of servers set up in the dining room that dished out porn 24/7 around the world. That was his business; and that was the end of that friendship. I'm not going there.

The purveyors of porn are the same individuals--pedophiles, etc.--that carry on ritual-sex and power politics at the same time. Once our nation rids itself of corrupted "leadership," all that will go away because there will be nobody to purchase it anymore. No money for it [not that the market will disappear, only the money]. And in this way, the Internet will get cleaned up from its current state of, whatever.

When porn is no longer an issue, and funding for violence, depravity and sensuality-for-profit are not longer viable, what is left of the Internet will continue as telephone service with content.

I believe the Internet will be with us far far into the future; that it will be the means by which children are taught about the world; and I believe this because you and I and all of us ~here~ realize the Internet conveys REAL MEANING, not merely "stuff." It has value.

Everybody reading this is either learning, disagreeing or coming up with their own response. That's what is supposed to happen IN SCHOOL.

Too bad there ain't much teachin' goin' on in school these days.

Anyone interested in learning more about how the internet can be controlled should check out China and the way they deal with it. In order to understand, you must think as the criminal. If you can't do that, you'll never grasp the depths of their criminality.
