Are people really saying that because Japan doesn't donate, Americans shouldn't donate to them? What kind of twisted, self-serving logic is this? Ever hear of the golden rule? You don't do something because someone else did it for you. You do something because it is what you would like to see others do.

Even if Japan never donated one single penny to Americans in the event of a disaster, how would that ever give anyone a logical explanation as to why they shouldn't donate to those people in Japan?

I mean, following that logic, why would anyone ever give money to the homeless. Has a homeless person ever given you money?

You donate because there are people in need. You donate because you have some spare change that could do some good. You don't donate because whomever you're donating to has or might in the future donate to your cause.

Of all the ridiculous things to say...

Been trying to stay out of the japan threads as am japanese - waiting word yet on relatives and friends there .. Tbh not surprised in the least with some of the vile attitudes and comments made by some less civilised individuals there in america.. Was born in an internment camp during ww2 my parents only crime - immigrating to america.. Growing up between the u.s and japan experienced negative comments / attitudes from some there even when was in the u.s military with s.o.g experienced it.. But for every racist that encountered met many more who were / are not racist ..
No matter there are a few idiots in every village all we can do is pity them.. Even now have seen more of the good people there in america speak up against the few who are idiots so dont give up it shows theres alot more good people in america than bad..

These comments are not just from Americans but from some British people here too, mostly in support of the karma for Pearl Harbour.

Wait, so people's reasoning is they deserve this because of Pearl Harbor?! Do they not consider that they received that karma 1,000 times fold when we dropped TWO A-bombs on them days later? Typical and disgusting.

Those who express sustained hatred for another, for whatever reason they may have, cannot feel the love that they could participate in.

This is a tragedy compounding on a tragedy.

I really appreciate your reply. I always worry that the bad apples will spoil the whole bunch as to how Americans are perceived. I am glad that you, and most likely others, are able to separate the good from the bad and not view all of us as you would the bad ones. It breaks my heart that people in Japan might see some of these grotesque comments and may think the lot of us feel that way.

That's the thing, Caji, most people don't view them as human beings, only as Japs who blew up a military ship on our soil. That is all they will ever be to some people.

Tell you one thing, despite the trauma and hardship these poor people are going through,i have noticed that they still manage to find the time to bow to each other in greeting!
What a dignified people!
I can only imagine the reaction of my own town if such a disaster happened!
It would be the other end of the scale,i can assure you!

Did you notice there were no riots or looting? People seemed calm and generally were helping each other.

There was a picture of two men carrying elderly women on their backs.

If the same thing happened in the US, I doubt we handle the situation as well.

This was one of the first things that ran through my mind when I saw the aftermath.
Where was the looting ? Where were the riots ? No fires ?

I think people should look at this as an example of how you conduct yourself even after such a tragedy.
Your town was just destroyed. Why make it worse for you and others ?

Ther'es nothing left to loot. I mean its like a nuke went off. There wadn't no looting in Sumatra either. I guess they are all more civilized or something in your eyes?

I don't see why anyone would have any ill will towards Japan at this dire time. Sure, their hentai tentacle porn may be a little overboard and sure, I hate the killing of whales/dolphins but that takes a back seat *right now* as the entire country is in shambles.

I hope for the best for Japan and it's people.

In fact, I really hate just donating, honestly, I want to do more, I want to go over there and hug these people and tell them I love them and it's going to be alright and that the world does share their pain, and I want to stay up all hours of the night and make sure every single soul is sleeping peacefully...why? because those people out there are my brothers and sisters.
edit on 3/14/2011 by ISis12RA12ELohim because: typo (AGAIN)

Isis, you made my heart ache with your words. I feel the same. I had to quit watching the news because I was crying every time I looked at their faces.

Yes, yes they are.
Would you see anyone in L.A. lining up to get 10 items or would they just ran-sack the place leaving others without anything at all.

Any place where the people don't ransack and loot their community is civilized in my eyes. Even Sumatra.

It's people like her that I fear for.
They end up dead in a group of others all wearing the same clothes because of brainwash.
In no way am I against anyone's religious beliefs. I just feel some take it too far and use "God" as a way to make others do what they probably wouldn't otherwise do or say on their own.

Darlin, I sure hope you know that not all believers are this insensitive? By any means. Believers can be just as insensitive as anyone else. Some worse then anyone else. Some only believe because they feel it gives them a pedistol. To place themselves upon above others. There will be many that even Christ said, he will not know.
I just pray I'm not one of them. I believe that would be the worst.
