4. Take these points into account along with the fact that the US has just over 10% of the world's population.

Yeah, 10%.

when mother nature hurls our butts back into deep anarchy as she always has and possibly always will, it will be because men relied on concentrating power in the hands of a few to 'make things better'. power corrupts and the weakness(ring) probably lies in all of us. AFTER anarchy has returned again. perhaps individuals dedicated to freedom as the most nurturing environment for humanity who see no realistic alternative but to fight the ring of power (centralized government - including 'democratic' forms) without quarter, will decide, with diligent soul searching, to VERY carefully remove people who they judge have a high potential to promote centralized power. rational persuasion has its' limits. THAT TIME HAS NOT ARRIVED! for the time being, quietly survive and recruit and educate children to love 'the invisible hand'(Adam Smith) and how to live with themselves should they ever decide to do a May May maneuver. (ref: TAI-PAN by James Clavell) i realize this is heretical thinking, but think the invisible hand is man's best friend.

Is anyone interested in a productive dialogue about what the people of the U.S. can do to improve the country? I offered 4 simple ways to start at the this thread. here's the list, go to my thread for my rationale and to discuss, productively I hope:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

1. Mandatory national service
2. Repeal the Patriot Act
3. Tax churches that are politicaly active
4. Eliminate corporate personhood and the money-equals-free-speech concept

I somewhat agree. Like I said in my post, I have respect for anyone, but the one time I was bashed for being an American, it was from a Canadian who also said he loved the states at the same time while bashing me. He really was just immature and had all of his "facts" that were actually all stereotypes.

Figures, Canadians must love stereotypes then, considering this guy used them.

Not all Canadians are like this though, majority are normal, caring, friendly people.

I would love to hear your take on the policies and the behavior of citizens of the Taliban. Maybe we should all model our societies after them hey?

Now hush!!!!!! You can abuse America all you want, but if you say anything against the Taliban or Islam, they will kill you.

Apologize towards Mecca five times and you might be saved.

OP... you have shown me as an American the error of my ways.. Let me just go waltz into congress and talk some sense into them.. I'm sure you will see a change shortly, especially after I knock on the white house door and explain to him the detrimental effects his broken promised pork barreled spending is causing..

Heck why stop there! I'll talk them into leaving Afghanistan and Iraq too!!

Well I just got off a 8 hour work shift , and I have to go back in in 3 hours for another 8 hours.
You know why? Cause I was taught that if you want something in this world, you have to work hard to get it, and what I do does not make me a lot of money, but it keeps my heart in the right place knowing that I am busting my ass in order to keep myself alive and having not to worry about sitting on the computer all day long bitchin and moaning about things I cant control outside of my daily routine of keeping myself alive.

I work hard, and most Americans do too, that is why we are where we are today. We are not where we are at because we let people walk all over us, we are where we are at today because we didnt let them walk all over us.
America isnt something that has come and gone, it is right in your face, at this moment, pointing at you reminding you that if you really want something bad enough, you can have it as long as you do what it takes to achieve that goal. Empire? You are God damned right we are an Empire, an Empire of hard working individuals who love their people and are more vastly connected with all races and religions than any other country in the world(and we do it all while getting along with one another). Name a country thats as diverse as America, you cant.

All the while, theres people in other countries, who LET their OWN "LEADERS" rule over THEIR OWN LIVES.
You talk about sticking up for our rights, why dont you guys take a shot at it for once?
Why dont you stick up for yourselves instead of crying to us when you "dont have the power".

We try to help, we are the bad guys, we dont help, we are heartless.

You know what, Im sick of it.

You want a solution? Why dont you think of one, or at least take a shot at it ?

Here, I will start.......

1. We bring all of our troops home from ALL THOSE EVIL PLACES THAT KILL OUR PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HELP(since they are not appreciated in the first place), and that way, i dont have to see my brothers and sisters die for some pieces of **** who dont give a lick about them.

2. Let all those countries Protect themselves, and leave them be to fend for themselves(see how well that goes).

3. Stop giving away all OUR hard earned money to people who dont appreciate the hard work we had to go through just to get you that money.

4. Close our borders and kick all those who dont belong in this country, OUT.

5. Stop listening to people who dont even live here, tell us how WE need to run OUR own country, when the countries they live in are 100000 times worse.

6. Sit back, and watch those "innocent nations" such as Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, NK, China, and Russia take over those countries in which we had once protected(all while we smile and giggle).

7. Take care of our own, and turn our backs to those who do nothing but complain about how we are oppressing them.

8. Bring all of our weapons back to the states, that way, none of those other countries(yours included) will have a way of protecting themselves. Leaving them open for attack by whoever has the biggest imagination.

9. Stop sharing our technology with said nations.

10. Live in harmony, once and for all, and not have to worry about policing the world, only ourselves.

How does that sound to you ? You want out, I just gave you a way. Would you take it ?

Didnt think so.

And you know how much China spends on it's military how? You do realize they're not big fans of "open records" over there right?

Anyway.

Please pontificate from your ivory tower what we should do some more - I find self righteous judgmental lectures so refreshing on a Friday.

When you live a little, please feel free to come back and tell a person how to live. I'm guessing you may want to pass the big "40" before you assume your life experience to be adequate though.

I wish I could down-star and down-flag a post.

America isn't 10% of the worlds population. It's about 4%. And it's the third largest!

Shown here:
en.wikipedia.org...

The points you make are obvious to a liberal and even some independents but this nation is split down the middle. We have people who are anti-europe and anti-UN and people who're anti-america and anti-capitalism. Most people are somewhere in between. Independents decide elections. Democrats outnumber republicans 42% to 32% about, though.

No matter who is in control no one will ever be happy with them. And I think that the reason america has been so free is because it hasn't been challenged by a huge concentrated population like china has. And with all of the immigrants coming in from mexico it's adding additional stress to the system. Additionally, america is a fresh country. When we were born this land was virgin aside from the native indians. Now that our population is growing and things aren't as fresh we're being stressed and freedoms are more expensive now. We're experimenting with psuedo-socialism as a result.

The reason a lot of old countries weren't as free as us is because they're older. Increasing stress = increasing government. My finnish ancestors were given land in the late 19th century here in the western US. It's hard to imagine these days how wonderous the opportunities in this country were back then. There was so much land and people were coming from all over the world to live here. But we're not as young as we were then. That's why you see these signs of stress appearing.

It's obvious america spends absurd amounts on military, but you have to bare in mind that america has been a superpower and the possibility of a war with the soviets brewed during the cold war. This set into motion a massive military industrial complex in response. While the cold war died with the soviet union, the military complex did not and has simply found new avenues to expand on and feed from. Now where things go from here is a question of who presents a threat and whether or not america can afford to go after it politically. It will be a hard sell if it cannot be afforded within reason.

Putting everything on loan is part of the debt crisis. The iraq and afghanistan wars are costing upwards of 1 to 2 trillion in total. Combine this dismal fact with the price of oil and food prices and economic bubbles and whatnot and you begin to see a lot of tension. It puts me into a position where I have no idea what will happen next. When people get desperate they can do stupid things.

And lord knows what AGW will do. Some people say end of the world. Latest science is saying CO2 levels will reach 800+ ppm by 2100. This is on the level of mass extinction events in earths history. This could set off a chain reaction where methane leaks over hundreds or even thousands of years if nothing stops it. That's extinction level. No joke. We're literally on the edge of a cliff historically and scientists are afraid. We could be ending this cycle of life or if we get a handle on the situation the beginning of a new one. No matter who you ask, these are interesting times for sure.

More stress incoming. We need to go somewhere else to keep things fresh and free.

Sadly enough - this was the United States before WWII (well, actually WW I, but...).

But we're too far down the rabbit hole to go back now... don't let it rub ya wrong. I promise this d-bag will have a point in time where he's either thanking the U.S. for something, or begging for our help... they ALWAYS do.

It's like petulant teenagers. They hate us when life's good, but they LOVE us when life sucks and they need our help - and they take the money and good we give them without so much as a thanks.
