I only offered that as a possibility since no one else had mentioned it yet.

sell it on e-bay.. call it a shaved jesus and the superstitious may possibly bid highly.. if peter popoff can fool people with his 'miracle spring water' imagine the superstitious with this mug if they think its jesus from the jesus once-upon-a-time stories.. why do people fall for man-made stories with no real proof at all? no real proof and causes people to war with each other like the middle-east.. has always been that way there, and always will be until the superstitions are eliminated..

Party pooper here. I drink hot cocoa from a packet all the time, with marshmellows.
After it's gone, nothing is left in the cup but a little of the chocolate mixture.

It's all the same color, or do I really need to explain this?

It's not mysteriously white. And Black. And Brown. And cinnamon. It's not a rainbow of colors, because the mixture doesn't contain a rainbow of colors. The white marshmellows melt into the mixture, causing it to be ONE color.

So that leaves the cup. If the cup caused this, then it's evidently not been glazed properly.

OP: Can you buy another cup like this one and pour some boiling water in it and see what happens?
Imagine what tea leaves could do.

I might - it seems that the pic is too big (4.2 MB) to allow it to be added....it times out and gives me an error - and using satellite internet doesn't help...the storm is slowing me down tonight here on the PA/Ohio border

The first picture looks like porn star "Ron Jeremy"

How did all the colors show up if the coco was tan/brown like you said? That is amazing to me.
Now, please don't take offense, but did you wash the cup before you used it? This is a good question because the chemicals from the cup could have interacted with the stuff in the coco, thus making all the white residue.
Oh a side note: I had noticed that the ice at work, made in cube trays and with tap water, has been leaving a flaky residue. I joked w/my co-workers saying my cup turned into a snow globe.
It could be a reaction of the cup/water/coco mixture. Either way, I wouldn't drink it again.

Just curious,

Is that a Saint Bernard?

No, I don't think so. It looks like a shepherd-mix.
You're right! I see it now. Its a Judean Shepherd crossed with a Roman Terrier. Some Kennel Clubs call this breed a Galileean Wood Retriever.

Yes, that's it! That was the breed that won Westminster at the Garden last year. Here's a photo of Him and his handlers:

Folks, my wife stepped in and had a look. She is very sensitive to all things cosmic and mysterious. She immediately identified the figure in the bottom of the mug. His photo is here:

She went on to say that if the OP were to find imprints of Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson in a matching mug, the set could bring a small fortune on eBay.

OK, all joking aside, I'll add my CSI forensic analysis:

I find the convenient position of the handle on the mug somewhat telling.

I presume the OP is right handed?

My fellow ATSers, seriously, if you didn't click Hemisphere's link, do yourself a favour, pop back & do so.

Ladyinwaiting....sorry to be equally a party pooper to your theory, but the mix did not contain marshmallows...and I did buy another mug and have had the cocoa several more times and purposely left it to dry...it left a uniform light tan residue which when totally dry looked identical to the original mix with no distinctive designs of any kind - imagine that?

I love CSI but do tell what you have figured out there? Yes, I am right-handed and that photo was taken at home several days after the image or whatever it is showed up...I have 2 witnesses that saw the mug right after it happened at work, like I said in my original post.

Any questions - fire away if you truly are interested I will gladly answer all of them. BTW, being an engineer by profession, I am always looking for a logical explanation for things that happen...and I agree that this image is just the particles of the mix that settled and somehow arranged themselves in a human form...but I ask myself why the eyes, nose, etc...all in the correct places? Very strange.

I was talking to one of the people at work today about this image and he wanted to know what everyone thought after I posted it here. I mentioned Ron Jeremy and he said "who?" I hated to explain but he left me no choice. Anways, he reminded me that the day that happened he and I were discussing the biblical story of Noah earlier that morning and how my logical mind could not grasp how 2 of every animal were taken on board. He said "see what happens when you question the Bible?' I asked him jokingly "what did the 2 lions eat when they were left off - the zebras?" Another story for another time, and some other threads have mentioned it, but Noah's ark was a DNA bank IMHO. Hey - does anyone know what Noah looked like? Maybe it's him...ha ha.

Anyway - I just posted this image for entertainment purposes and at the urging of the people I have shown it already.

Hello FlyInTheOintment,

To answer you questions, I live and work in Steelers Country (Western PA/Eastern OH). Sorry, the building doesn't fit your description. I live far from where I work, and therefore am not familiar with it's history other than it is very close to the Battle of Bushy Run (1763?). The only thing that ATS members would recognise about the area I work in is that it is very close to Kecksburg....so had this image been a Gray, then I would have known its origin and purpose. So I am at a loss...I just somehow can't shake the feeling that this was an intended message of some sort...and yes, I cry over Jesus toast and Jesus in the tree stumps too. So, that is why it took me almost 2 months to put it out here for everyone to ridicule.

Thanks BD! You can take a measure of the blame as you skillfully set that up. I didn't make it, I found it. You can find anything on the Internet. If you can think it, you'll find it. Even that!
How sweet is that?

Thank you ETeeTime! You sir are a good sport. That's as rare on ATS as a cocoa image in the bottom of a mug. We've all seen something in this mug. That we didn't come to the most elegant of conclusions, well... you can lead a horse to water but if Ron Jeremy's face is in the bottom of the trough...

When and if they remake the "Ten Commandments" maybe they'll cast Ron Jeremy as Noah. Speaking of Noah, I checked. It's definitely not Charlton Heston.

Thanks again!

Please think nothing of it. I was going for a Barney Fife angle of being serious but it was sense of humor failure. (The angle of handle is actually irrelevant)

This thread is both entertaining and puzzling. I do not doubt your story or authenticity of the anomaly. Truth is, after all, stranger than fiction. Assuming you microwave heated it? As one poster suggested, perhaps the glazing on the mug. After all I believe it was only $1.50 right? Probably made in China.

Great thread and kudos for taking the ribbing in stride
