Okay - it's official - I am getting bugged out with the current locations of the latest quakes - most all areas of concern have been hit within the past 1 1/2 days. - Someone, please settle me down and tell me I'm wrong!

5.3 2011/03/16 22:36:16 -32.469 -71.424 24.7 VALPARAISO, CHILE

Do I have to put the info in ext. tx or off site context??? - make for a bit of work/time on the dreaded dial up when things start hitting the fan

I hear what you're saying, its quite tedious, even copying and pasting.
In fact I'm currently changing my layout for the text lists for NZ, Greece and Chile for that very reason, and standardising the whole caboodle to match USGS (I give in )

Magnitude first eh

Re Chile, I updated to the end of the 16th UTC and caught that 5.6/5.7 but by the time I posted it there was a 4.8 as well (still on the 16th)
So that 5.1 at 00:55 must be another one.

I can't get through to Chile right now to check www.sismologia.cl...
thats not a good sign

Everything is absolutely normal. There are no areas like Russia that are exhibiting seismic activity under volcanic fields at Amurskaya which has had no seismic activity in the past 365 days except this:

The Udokan Plateau volcanic field occupies a broad area about 400 km ENE of the northern tip of Lake Baikal. Quaternary volcanism here represents the latest manifestation of activity dating back to the Miocene covering an area of 3000 sq km at the eastern margin of the Baikal Rift System. Late-Pleistocene to Holocene volcanic centers are concentrated along three major lineaments, and many eruptions were localized along fissures trending NW-SE and NE-SW. Dated Holocene volcanic centers are located on a 20-km-long line at the SW side of the volcanic field, but Holocene cinder cones also occur in the NE Udokan Plateau. Seismic activity has been recorded at depths of 15 to 20 km beneath some of the cones. The Udokan volcanic field is dominated by basaltic cinder cones, but basal trachytic ignimbrites are also overlain by lava domes and flows, and trachytic maars were formed during the final stages of activity. The latest dated eruption took place at Chepe volcano about 2200 years ago.

That is except for my blog which now has Lists By Country on the main menu, which currently only goes to the Japan page - but I am working on it.

No, not scary - just overloaded.

The vertical sensitivity is too high. That is what is causing that. Actually the broadband side of that statin is having serious issues so that may well just be junk.

Just done a count of the 6.0 quakes. This total is now coming up towards HALF of the total for 2010 and we are not quite QUARTER of the way through.

The average number over the past 11 years is 142. We are now at 69.

36 are fore/aftershocks of the Japan quake.

This is the SECOND wave....

The vanuatu quake isn't big enough to still be producing those waves over an hour later, is it????

Okay...maybe it is. I just realized how shallow the quake was. Funny how I am thinking of a 6.5 quake as 'small'.

I honestly can't say for sure, I'm pretty new to this myself. That was my best guess based on location and distance. Yeah, it is funny how these 6's seem small now. If it happened under us it wouldn't! We'll just have to wait for one of the big dogs to confirm it for us.
