That is exactly how Canada has become.
She isn't what she once used to be. steven harper reeks of NWO.
It's a global disease * sigh*.
welcome to the empire.

If you can't see the parallels to what happened in Germany in 1933, well, I can't help you. All I know is now I fear for every minority person in this country, every poor person in this country, every liberal person in this country, and every legal immigrant in this country, because the GOP wants revenge and they want to take it out on the people that voted them out in 2008.

No estoy de acuerdo con usted.

You think you speak for all minorities? All legal immigrants?
You don't speak for my mother, sir. You don't speak for me.

As I said, your hyperbolic, ignorance and paranoia is unhealthy and not representative of reality.

No the only person I can control is me. And for this guy, I don't want to end up in some GOP run concentration camp left to starve to death because it's not "fiscally responsible" to fund it.

I don't want the Social Security that I have paid into my entire life given to a person like Bernie Madoff.

I don't want to be shot and killed for my political beliefs because some right winger thinks that his 2nd Amendment right includes shooting people that lean left politically.

I don't want any of those things either.

But unlike you, I'm not losing sleep thinking this sort of thing is right around the corner.
I have more faith in Americans than that. But you're welcome to live in fear, you seem to like it.

Whatukno:
I feel ya. And I feel the current regime in Washington is no different from the prior regime: the war grinds on, even escalates. The same financial advisors for Bush are still there for Obama. The NWO Neo-cons have done great damage to the Constitution and I worry if we will ever get back our Bill of Rights. And the hard-ball method of passing the health care bill damages any credibility of sanity the Democrats ever had. I remember writing my senators and congressmen to not pass the bill as it forced people to buy something they may not be able to afford; and instead to pass regulations controlling the costs and behaviors of said insurance companies first or else pass Universal Health Care instead. As it was, it seemed like a giant giveaway to the health insurance companies. Next, the Democrats tried to push Cap and Trade act in the same strongarm manner. It was the Republicans who filibustered that Cap and Trade act..Pelosi demanding passage and the congressmen had not even been given the missing 300 pages to read before passing it. The Republicans began filibustering by reading the Cap and Trade act which was a huge enslavement act, a terrible calumny and made to enrich off shore banks with penalty taxes on our daily lives (driving taxes, household power use taxes, taxes on farm animals, etc.) and intrude on our privacy even more. And I hate to think it was under the Democratic influence that we are in danger of losing the internet as our last media forum for free speech. The Democrats have done nothing to regulate financial speculation, to break up the media monopolies...they seem to support them. As a life long Democrat, I am ready to toss this party as it does not represent the people but its own special interests which seem to be the same ones to which the Republicans are beholden - Wall Street, Corporations, Military Industrial Complex. I think those of us not in the Right Wing camp need to dig in and work toward a new party in this country, because it should be clear to both sides we only have ONE party now - the Corporate Party. And I wonder how we are going to be able to enact laws to deter these massive financial powers from complete intrusion into our lives and pocketbooks when they own most of our elected officials?

Not exclusive to America right now.

Not even remotely exclusive to America right now; but if you can't see that the Democrats have not been helping... well...

Frankly it was time to move along time ago. To where, I don't know, little refuge for freedom anymore.

No offense, but good riddance.

Why do you run from your problems like a scared child?
Be a man, and face your problems
You can't run from everything just because they're going sour bro.

i just came back from canada and i was ... pretty shocked by what i saw. in montreal/quebec city most of the buildings are government owned, the majority of the people work for the government. everything is super expensive. many of the buildings were for sale/rent with several stores closed or going out of business. the commercials for health care were downright frightening. they literally try to scare the hell out of you. it was a strange place .nice to visit, but not to live.

I've always wondered what our two governments would think about a citizen exchange program between our two countries. I would GLADLY exchange you my Canadian Citizenship for your U.S. Citizenship as I despise the amount of taxes that I pay each year as well as other things that are forced upon me by my government. I despise the fact that I fall into a 47.8% income tax bracket and that the government gets almost 50% of my hard earned cash each year. I despise the fact that I had to wait 3 MONTHS to see a simple (ENT) Ears Nose and Throat specialist when I had a very serious ear infection. I despise the fact that I had to wait 4 MONTHS for an MRI after having been involved in a recent car roll over crash. In Canada, if you aren't showing signs of brain damage you are not a priority for imaging services and have to wait.

I despise the fact that I have to register with the government a simple little .22 rifle that I use for shooting pop cans when I go camping. This registration is then sent to all police departments across Canada and taken into consideration any time you come into contact with the cops. Having a loud argument with you girlfriend might trigger a neighbor to call the police, police see there are weapons on the property and therefore deploy the Emergency Task Force to your house. You are then taken out of your house with MP5's pointed at your head with no warrant or reason. It happens everyday to law abiding gun owners here in Canada.

I could go on and on.

Personally, I have already moved. The last depression will look like a cake-walk compared to what is down the road for US citizens. Places to consider are Switzerland, Hong Kong, New Hampshire (see Free State Project), and Costa Rica for the pro-liberty movement. For socialists, Canada is not a bad idea at all, though I can't say I know what other ideas may be good for socialists in addition to that.

I don't know if you will find Canada to be much better than the US.

Poiltically or economically.

That being said, as a Canadian, you are more than welcome to come join our party
.

Sure, y'all c'mon up. You've got folks that gripe up here as well (which explains some of the posts), and a neo-con/theo-con government with a minority in Parliament and Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition can't muster up the cojones to capitalise upon it. But life is still pretty good, and we aren't being run out of our homes by banking pranks that are illegal in Canada. Heath care works...it's on triage, cuz the right-wingers keep making cuts whenever they get into power (Mike the Knife)...but it works. Cancer cured for $32. Yes I pay taxes...but we live at least as well as you do, so what's the big deal? Taxes are the price of civilisation.

I'm watching and waiting to see what the GOP does to your country as well...cuz I'm counting on our Liberals to invoke the US experience next election. Steve loves the GOP...but I don't like his vision of Canada. But do come up...I'll leave the porch light on and a couple of wobble-pops in fridge.

Before this congress gets into session and they start stripping the constitution of most of the protections offered by the Bill of Rights and the other Amendments, and jack booted thugs hired by the Right wingers start storming into our houses and putting their boots to our necks for being intelligent free thinking individuals, is it time for Americans who really love freedom to go to Canada?

I for one don't really feel like being water-boarded for being left of center politically, I don't really want to be stomped on by some jack booted thug for expressing what used to be the 1st Amendment. I certainly don't want to be a slave sold to a landowner. Maybe it's time that I move to Canada to flee before the Gestapo Right comes crashing through my door guns drawn and they put me in jail for having an opinion that is pro freedom.

Wow, drama queen much?

I will make you the same offer I made another poster on here.

I will pay for your relocation to whatever socialist utopia you wish to go to with only one stipulation. You never again step foot in the United States.

Sound good?

Thats right, you can get a one way ticket to wherever you want to go as long as you renounce your citizenship. When would you like to leave?

I want the neo cons to notice something in this thread.

Do you notice the general attitude of the Canadians here? What do they all say? "Come on up!"

It looks like xenophobia isn't high on the Canadian platform as it is for the GOP.
