Viacom's MTV to Launch Gay Cable Network

Well im very happy with it, although I don't live in the States, I wish I could. In Europe we already have a Gay channel on satelite. It's a very good idea. You have already so much straight channels, so why not a Gay one. If you don't want to watch, don't watch it, it's as simple as that!

Btw, being Gay is not a lifestyle, how many times do we have to explain this??? And about explaining to your kids. Well, if you teach them in the beginning that only straight people can live together and have relationships, then you have alot to explain! If you teach them that it's normal when two people love eachother, no matter what sexuality you are, then you never have to explain!

What bothers me is that if there was a straight parade or a straight TV network, it would be slammed, same if it was for whites. Its ok for blacks to have their own TV channels and gays, but not for straights and whites. Its either we all get our own TV network or we just stick to no special groups tc channels. The latter is the better. And by special groups I mean, Spanish, white, blacks, gay, straight, not a broad base like men and women.

I would never watch something like that, let them watch it.

A bit off track here,but as for gay parades, get ride of them. I don't care if your gay, but I do not want you walking down the road in leather with your boyfriend shouting your queer. I don't care, I don't want to know, and nobody else should.

When you have the luxury of being a part of the majority you don't need white TV stations or straight parades or anything else for that matter because it's all geared towards you anyway Why complain about a black or gay TV network or a gay parade, it's just petty. It makes no difference to the average persons life. If people don't like it don't tune in or stand on the street gawping.

I would block this channel when it came out if I had kids I wouldn't want my son watching gays making out on TV especially if he was at a young age but really I thought lifetime was a gay channel guess I was wrong

Ubermunche: I can tell you this. Almost every channel their is on tv is STRAIGHT! So I perfectly understand they will start a Gay channnel. In Europe we already have several and it's normal.

To be honest there are so many different channels, they cater to everyone- but not the gay community and now they are, its a good thing- times are changing.

Obviously their not going to be showing men getting off with each other or whatever- they already have channels for that sort of thing...

If being gay is just a lifestyle choice, would it have persisted over thousands of years, in the face of extreme persecution? I doubt it. Who would choose to be denied rights, ousted from family, burned at the stake, and all the other nice things that happen or have happened to gay people over the years? Being christian (or any other religion) is a lifestyle choice. But sexual orientation is like any other physical characteristic, fluid and different for each person. Some black people are dark as coffee, some light as caramel, and every shade in between. Some people are straight as George Bush, some gay as Liberace, and everything in between. It's our learned cultures that force people to choose one extreme or the other, ignoring the wide open space on the scale of sexuality. Masculine and feminine are other fluid human characteristics. Some men are testosterone-poisoned neanderthals, and some are basement-dwelling geeks who've never touched a hand tool. Women range from helpless and "math is hard", to scary butch dykes with cigarettes rolled in t shirt sleeves, wearing fake penises in their pants.

That being said, I speak from both sides of the fence, having done my time in 2 hetero marriages, and now in a same sex "marriage". The media is completely and totally motivaed by profit. Most gay people have two incomes and no children. They are free to spend on themselves and their pets. Gays may be only 10% of the population, but a 10% with above average disposable income. If corporations can find a way to market to this niche without offending their mainstream consumers, then so much the better. And what better way to target a marketing campaign than a dedicated channel? Homophobes won't watch it, so may never know that their favorite laundry soap also pitches spring fresh wash to gays & lesbians. You get the picture.

Will I watch a gay channel? Maybe a show or two. I like Queer Eye. But I'm a woman and never watch the lifetime channel. I watch plenty of BET, as I grew up in the hood and like urban culture. I won't pay for a specialty channel, specialty advertising. I pay enough to be harassed my mainstream commercials as it is. TV isn't about fairness, it's about marketing.

No even if it was straight sex I wouldn't let him watch it but if he did i would be upset. Also i just want to make one point clear I don't mind lesbians I have no problems with lesbians but gay men bother me.

What the hell now. A Gay channel? This is ridiculous. It should be blocked like all sexually oriented programming. MTV in itself is a crackpot channel. I have to admit I use to watch it(regualr MTV, not Gay MTV), the programming on it appeals to noting but low life slobs. Secondly being gay is not natural, it goes against the laws of nature. I have to ignore your claim that being gay is unnatural. Debating "religious" topics with christians is a waste of time. But how in the heck does a gay channel = a porn channel?

A sitcom is a sitcom, game show, soap opera, what have you. Is there sexually oriented programming on PAX or CNN or ABC? I don't automatically assume I'll see news anchors making out when someone mentions an all news channel. Or christians making out on PAX. So why in the world would anyone with half a brain think there kids will stumble onto the gay channel and see sex?? The channel would be shut down in a heartbeat, and no one would make any money.

Think outside the box. See the marketing ploy, not the "godless gays" smokescreen.

The fact that it is a Gay Channel is making a reference to sexual preference. Straight channels have the appropriate representation of the population. They do have "Will and Grace."

Exactly. Just because the gays have a channel that they can watch, from their viewpoint, why do you think it will be about sex? How about a show that addresses issues like, "My life in the NFL?" "Why won't my dad talk to me?" Druggies have that same problem, not dissing them, why?

I dont have a problem with it OR BET, or spike, or liftime or whatever.

If being gay in unnatural how come we don't see any gay animals plz notify me if you have a gay dog or cat. The only reason some humans are gay is cuz we have a brain which we can chose what we want to be but animals are not as smart so they stay the way they were made by being natural.

My wifes two cats are gay as they come

I am serious, they only have eyes for each other if you know what I mean, we tried to bring a female in and they chased her away.


And the 'Nuge would be a great talk show host on the LHB channel
