Yep! Slowly cutting back on the amount of soda/pop I'm drinking and trying to drink more tea. Although I don't know how well that will fair when school starts up again

Oh, I love soda! And most sweets! Especially chocolate.
Unfortunately my natural doctor chews me out if I drink sodas.
I do drink natural sodas though.
They are not quite as bad.
They are more of a treat now anyway!
I wish I could eat totally healthy stuff all the time.
I like the subway here. At least its fairly fresh.
Anyway we could just chat all day....

What if you got a stainless steel thermos
and made tea to take with to school?
I love taking tea to work.
Sometimes its what gets me by till noon.

Ya know, after watching Fast Food INC. I will have a hard time eating fast food ever again. The movie informed me on a host of issues as well as confirmed what I already knew. We are a nation that values the dollar and lower cost of production over human honesty and values. I say eliminate the Corporations and go back to local farming and older methods of production. Sure, we will loose a portion of crop but at least it will be an honest crop. What really pissed me off was the fact that we feed cows corn instead of grass because it is cheaper! That is just plain laziness and greed. That greed causes a resistant strain of ecoli in the beef. That's why we use the ammonia, to kill that bacteria. Go back to grass and the problem is solved.

Hmm, don't think I've ever really had a natural soda at least not to sure if I have had it or not. If V8 counts for healthy stuff then that will work fine just as well for all of us . Also as for chocolate, I personally have never found the fascination with chocolate myself. Tried it once and never again, but it certainly seems like a delicacy if the right brand is chosen

Hmm, that is a good idea and one I've thought of for many occasions it would certainly be helpful for this semester. I'll probably have to start doing that after reading this article and just bring my own lunch with tea as my drink of choice

No no of course not. But, what would you use to sterilize food with against microbes in transported food? Are you prepared to kill your own meat and store it at home right away and grind your own wheat etc?

The article could just as well have said that fertilizer is used to clean hamburger meat as ammonia is used in fertilizer to grow plants. Then you get scares from gardeners going nuts with manufactured fertilizers vs organic animal poo basically. It is the same chemicals that make plants grow either way.

You can check out the instructibles website and see a recipe to make "Miracle Grow" from urine (ammonia) by mixing with a certain amount of water.

Also you have to uptake a small amount of ammonia as well to metabolize food. The whole point I was trying to bring up is that a lot of food, water, air contains a portion of ammonia and shouldn't be scary. Nothing to do with whether the crap that is sold in many restaurants that is passed off as food is ethical. I'm much more creeped out by forced artificial food like "fat free ice cream" than food washed in ammonia water.

It goes somewhat hand in hand with hormone chickens. Basically the fat chickens in meat farms aren't treated with hormones (myth and illegal). They are selective bred chickens that gain in stature so fast their body gets plump within weeks. You can even order "Cornish X Rock" chicks online to raise in your backyard if you want to raise your own food. The problem with factory farm raised chickens isn't hormones rather it is antibiotics used in keeping so many birds in close quarters. How will it effect humans to eat so many antibiotics?

Just because a chemical is present doesn't mean it is bad. Hydrogen cyanide is in corn you eat but, it can also be a chemical weapon. The difference is that you would have to eat a ton of corn a day for it to make you fall dead.

You can find them in the health food store usually.
Or in better grocery stores.
Root beer is my favorite!
V8 is very good but I think it is high in sodium.
I dont like tomatoes....
Still better than sodas though plus you get your vitamins!

Ah, looks like I'll have to step foot...'In there' then. Haven't been into a health food store in so long. Kind of makes me wonder if any are actually still around in this neck of the woods. So I'm assuming that the natural sodas have pretty much the same flavors and tastes as those of the 'leading brands'? Also not to sure about the sodium, I could read the back I suppose; but then again if there is one thing I'm not well educated on the back of foods and moderation of what I should and shouldn't intake

Same I do not care for tomatoes, but they do have a very nice smoothie mix which is rather good . Hopefully this will all pay off when I get older as it feels like I'm killing myself trying to cut myself free from junk food and such to eat healthier.

Here's hoping that that healthy foods won't become poison for us

Actually yes I can.

The article could just as well have said that fertilizer is used to clean hamburger meat as ammonia is used in fertilizer to grow plants. It talks about using leftover parts and adding a "ph enhancer".
Okay. So......don't eat it?

Anyway, I wanted to answer that and say I agree with the rest of your post and you make some valid points!
I especially liked the antibiotic reference and someone also mentioned grass fed beef instead of corn also. Great stuff guys!

Does anyone remember a show on 20/20 about 20 years ago with undercover film at a food lion? They were scrubbing and soaking expired chickens and turkeys with bleach.

An illusion it will be, so large, so vast it will escape their perception.

Many people think the idea of "reptilians" is ludicris, however start researching all the various cultures on earth that have "reptilians" in their folklore.

Now, come on the amount of poisons trying to be injected into us, either by aspartame, growth hormones (in our livestock/poultry), MSG, Propyl Gallate, BHA and BHT, Potassium Bromate, Blue 1 and Blue 2, Red and now this.

Who in their right mind would do this?

I was raised on a farm and had "natural grown / nothing added food. Our current day food, cows, chickens, eggs, tomatoes, corn, beans, wheat and various other veggies don't even taste like the food I grew up with.

I haven't had a good real tasting tomato in over 35 years.

Start researching how the "Government" is now trying to mandate that only genetically altered seeds be used to even grow our food.

Ammonia does somewhat stabilize PH in foods so they do not rot.

No, I don't want to eat whatever odd part of the carcass they want to process. That is why I haven't eaten from fast food since my parents bought me burgers years and years ago as a child. Then again the gelatins are leftover cartridge, hoofs etc and my mom actually takes a drug derived from gelatin for arthritis.

My guess on labeling (couldn't find the info) is that the amount is so minute and degraded by the time it reaches the consumer it may be barely detectable considering at times that some microbes do show up regardless. If it were pure ammonia the microbes would not survive and neither would the consumer.

It is not as the author of this article states like "spraying food with ammonia and eating". If you sprayed food with full strength ammonia you would hear of massive deaths and sickness immediately on consuming.

There are many abuses in the mass food industry but, sterilizing food is not one of them. I would much rather take in a small amount of ammonia than shop for rotten flesh in the supermarket.

When I brought up fertilizer I was trying to show that that the article in question was overly alarmist and highly exaggerated by mentioning "Window Cleaner." If we wish to clean up factory farms/mass food it is better to speak with a level head and know what the actual abuses are.

Such as if you wish to convince someone it is better to not go ranting about hormone filled chickens because you will be laughed at. On the other hand if you brought up the overuse of antibiotics in livestock and what consequences it might bring you might turn a few heads.

Hamburger has never been good for you, whether treated to kill the bugs or not. Fast food for the most part isn't good for us either, but it's convenient, cheap and tastes pretty good.

Not everyone can afford whole flesh everyday, nor are most people satisfied with a vegetarian diet.

If you can afford it grow your own food or buy it from local small organic producers.

I think I'm going to get a nice juicy hot cheeseburger for lunch tomorrow because I love my meat.

I have to say that I find it funny, as a Brit that you have to, in effect steralise your left over meat products. We rarely have any left overs, as we eat things like haggis, faggots and black pudding (blood pudding?), plus other foods that basically use all parts of the animal.

I feels kinda greatfull for WWII, it gave me some of my favourite foods through necessity.

A good book on this subject is "Fast Food Nation" . There are some things in there you dont want to know about your fast food!

Funny you should say that. I was in California about 6 months ago and whilst waiting for our plane back, we popped into Maccy D's and I have to say that it didn't taste right at all.

Here in the UK, the McD's commercials all advertise nothing but 100% Beef. Do they do the same in the US? Maybe our Food Standards Agency has higher standards that theirs?
