Its nibiru making a pass by the earth.
A little known fact.
When they changed calander dates to the current one we use now, 3 years were left out. Everyones freaking about dec. 21-2012, except if you go by the old calandar its really dec 9th 2012 now. So you got ruffly 12 days before the event. And possibly this object is just the beginning of the next 12 days interresting days...

and launch occurred shortly before 06:50 UTC that day.

So...

Message wasn't even released until first window was more than an hour old.

Launch occurred TWO HOURS BEFORE WINDOW CLOSED. .[EDIT FOR MATH ERROR]

what do you suppose the line
"2300 07 DEC 0600 TO 08 DEC "
means since it was a day BEFORE the message
was released, and has different start/stop times
for the window anyway?

Since when is a unconfirmed rumour considered proof. All the article says is that an anonymous source from the Russian army says its so, and the article even speculates where it was fired from.

This close to the event, every 'insider quote' has to be tagged very VERY preliminary and dubious.

Even the 'obvious' consensus that the missile FAILED should be considered only with the greatest caution, in my view.

Collect and investigate now, argue interpretations TOMORROW -- or we pollute the raw data irrevocably.

Actually, let me reassure you that at least one of your assumptions is just paranioa:
The date December 12th, 2012 is deduced from the Mayan count calendar. It reflects the real date in relation to Mayan cosmology.

...And if a planet came ANYWHERE near earth, there would be a lot more to worry about than pretty spirals umbilically connected to mountains.
