I have a large radio on an old antique end table that sits against the wall.
I can often count on knowing what's going on with the quakes (if it's big enough) around the Southern Ca area as the table makes a creaking sound - very slight - a bit like the sound an old wooden boat makes - I was sitting here and the table made the sound like there was something happening.
I giggled and said out loud - quake somewhere?
Turns out - yes -
And it was a big one.
Felt by my table -
on the coast of Southern Ca.
Chock one up for the seismic table alert.

Yup my browser was shaking, got the firefox plug in 'equake' installed.

Usually don't see them higher than 4. Was pretty surprised when I saw 7.9!

Still reading 7.9 on the USGS that I posted above. But they usually do come down, sometimes substantially, after the initial report. So probably just slow in re-posting.

I guesstimate the distance at about 2000 miles.

I also saw the earlier quake you were referring to... I thought the difference was a bit suspect. 7.9 is so much larger than a 6.6 that it was obvious it wasn't the same one.
