You're absolutely right and I feel the same way, though the real invasion, the one I have most difficulty accepting, is that of the junkheads who spend too much time on this site. I am a recent and passionate ATSer but most of the *rap I have to wade through to get to something interesting is becoming too tedious to put up with. I particularly loathe the idea of giving up a potentially excellent site because of them, but it may just come to that. How is it that nothing good is allowed to endure?
Moderators, or whoever, couldn't you start cleaning out the cupboards??

but i am working to simply ignore their posts. their particular level of discourse should be reserved for small petulant children, and not critical thinking adults.

In my opinion, a MAJORITY of us our guilty for responding to these people. Not for having an interaction with their post, and posting our thought on it; But not approaching the situation in a positive way, where no one feels hurt and feels the need to retaliate, or Up the Insult Bar to the next level, to win the infamous keyboard battle of insults that only results in losers.

While I agree ATS has taken a sharp dive in quality, it's certainly not caused by only one political ideology, and suggesting it is just makes things worse, not better.

Maybe we should make a new forum called Irony and make this thread a sticky.


But honestly, what I want to know is why isn't this thread moved to the rants forum or the political forums? That's what this is.. a political rant.

This post seems pointless; if it is edited so heavily. Who is the poster talking about? I wish the moderater would have inserted something that made some sense. For example put in conservative or liberal instead of whatever the orginal poster said? confused..

Maybe the owner should set up a special forum for the oldtimers. The OP says that the quality was better, like four years ago. So if your account doesn't show required time limit, you need to go trash Obama and his birth certificate someplace else.

Otherwise, you would have to set up an underground place somewhere within the board and ignore anything that flies ten light years off the OP theme -- or if it sucks any other way.

The more i read this thread the more it saddens me.

We all live on the same planet and share in the same experiences. Reality in its varying forms mush be the same for all of us?

So why must we argue about suck trivial matters as the side of the political spectrum someone chooses to inhabit.

Surely there is one truth, one thing we are all looking for.

I agree with what you say completely. Small compensation, practically everyone everywhere, unless they're American, white, young, in great shape, attractive, educated, successful, popular - are given the impression they're lacking somehow. Low self-esteem is rampant, propagated by the amorphous ideal in advertising, film, television, etc.

I can't help noting your Princess Leia avatar. A women I communicate with by U2U filled me in on female avatars based on contact with other women and girls on the site.

No matter your actual age, appearance, receptivity - if you put up a sexy babe or pop culture female as an avatar - you get endless guys becoming your 'friend' sending you personal messages, etc.

Sounds dopey - but is actually the case.

So many of us are conditioned.

My first step at remedy was to stop watching television and going to movies. Works wonders to see people as imperfect but wonderfully living breathing flesh and blood - not icons.

Surely ATS does not reinforce their dogma or beliefs.

I came to ATS because of my stepson.I wanted to read what he was
writing on this website.He had recently signed a contract to be on talk
radio,plus have articles he's written published.
I hadn't counted on finding so much bashing of my religion on this forum.
Even if I don't agree with another member's faith.I admire those who
stand up and defend their beliefs.
Just as you have the right to defend your disbelief of any religious
theology.It is not my intention to be offensive to anyone.I don't go
out of my way to cause trouble. But, some of you are offensive and
disrespectful and have this idea that you are superior to others.
You base these assumptions on your secular education and possibly
your upbringing.
In my opinion,people who claim to be atheists,are really God haters.

I understand and was a big fan, too.

People I've met who grew up with STAR WARS often relate what a turn on Princess Leia was to them as kids. Especially the scene where she's a slave in chains.

Interesting to see what different friendships and member interractions would have gone on had you chosen Jabba the Hut as an avatar.

Iconography is very powerful.

Your avatar reminds me of an ex-member who went to a Star Wars convention and posted pictures of himself with some of the Princess Leia lookalikes.
It was very funny.

This member generated a lot of fun threads and lightened ATS no end, unfortunately he had a real problem with relating to women, despite a very well respected member, who doesn't seem to post as often as she used to, trying to help him with his social skills around women, even here on ATS.

Inevitably he got banned during the period when lots of members seemed to be earning themselves bans.
I miss his unique light heartedness.
I don't miss his attitude to women.
ATS got it right on that one.
