Just want to say Zagari, don't give up. It doesn't matter if the mathematics is flawed or there are so many holes in a theory. You know what matters? The quest for truth, the quest for meaning, the quest for living.

If the math is screwed and the theory has "so many holes" then there is no truth in the Timewave.

RedHen, I wasn't referring to TWZ in the end for the quest for truth and knowing.

I meant that if TWZ doesn't work out, there are other paths to take.

People's perception of things seem to be off-kilter lately...
Speaking of which (in a way)... while the math of this system clearly isn't working as it should, I wonder how much of its failure could be due to the appraisal of what constitutes a TRULY "novel" event.
(As an example: August 23/24th, 79 B.C. could be considered as very "novel" because of the eruption of the Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii and Herculanum.
But at the time its wider impact wasn't really that great - except for those two unfortunate towns, of course.)

I apologise if this has been discussed - it's a long thread, and I've only started following it a few days ago - but I wonder, which year does 1348 correlate with?
As another poster mentioned (in more general terms), that was an undoubtedly "novel" year for Europe, the importance of which could hardly be overestimated. The plague arrested the development of several cities, by killing most of its inhabitants. Socially and demographically it was a disaster of unprecedented proportions (as far as we know).
And that was just one of the catastrophes that year, certainly the most important one.
There were also major earthquakes and other disasters.

The Turkish invasions into Europe are another interesting series of events (they had a huge demographic impact, with two thirds of the population taken into slavery or killed in some regions of Europe), although its "novelty" is more difficult to pinpoint chronologically.
(However, I am sure that 1683 - the year of the definitive defeat of the Turks during the siege of Vienna - would have been considered as majorly important by most Europeans.)

My only suggestion for this most recent date would be an actor of internationl fame telling the POTUS derogatory insults no other person on the planet could conceivably get away with.

If Timewave Zero is representative of activity in global consciousness then there are potential scientific explanations for why some important dates have novelty spikes and others don't.

This is one reason I think people are just so full of it when it comes to dismissing Timewave Zero and those trying to figure out what it could be telling us. The naysayers have no idea what they're talking about. There is a little bit more involved than simply saying: "the peak doesn't match where it should, this theory is ridiculous."

That is a very narrow, judgemental view of novelty theory in general. Some have said the same thing about the global consciousness project when Roger Nelson from Princeton tells us the probability against the results being chance is billions to one. Is he crazy too? No, he isn't.

Noone knows how global consciousness works. Some might say it is something acting at the quantum level, some might say it is something caused by the effects of larger, macro-scale human decision-making on this planet. Noone knows.

What we do know is that global consciousness is likely to exist due to the scientific data conducted by experiments at Princeton and elsewhere. We know it is an effect that occurs independent of our conscious, day to day life experience. We are not conscious of it and it appears to occur whether or not people are sleeping, eating, buying snuggees or playing angry birds.

The X in the Timewave Zero equation is "Novelty" - because we have no idea what it is.

Thus, if we work off the other quantifiable data on the graph it might be possible to solve for X. Then we would have a better idea of what the theory is supposed to be telling us - if anything.

Some people do this kind of work is to at least attempt to solve for X knowing that it might not be possible. It might just be a fluke that the spikes and troughs are organized the way they are and simple coincidence that the spikes correlate to days that we view as having significant importance. People have always said that about this theory and we know that.

What we don't know is whether or not this theory can somehow be verified, whether or not the unknown variable of novelty can be solved for and what the overall theory could be telling us even if it is a solvable equation.

To others, the only possible explanation is that the theory has significance and that the data represents something of global importance - potentially, the biggest discover in modern science if X can be solved for.

The only way to take the next step to understanding this is to try and solve for X. If people are so inclined to do so, they should be allowed to do so free of namecalling, ridiculous attacks and narrow-mindedness.

At least they're willing to try.

Astrophysicists and cosmologists all over the world are starting to pull the curtain on everything from dark matter and dark energy to parallel universes. We are beginning to understand some of the most bizarre, mysterious aspects of the universe. Why would we not try to pursue every potential discovery?

Sometimes, the biggest discoveries in science have come from those who were ousted, dubbed crazy and thrown into dungeons to rott and die because people didn't agree with what they had to say.

We are only here for a brief moment.

I have no inclination to mentor you in the art of software development and due diligence much less how software that is worth a sheet is properly vetted. Especially software which entire core is a mathematical one.

McKenna sold hundreds/1000s of copies of software before he was smacked upside the head by someone who found his algorithmic derivations to be entirely off the mark. By hundreds of years in many instances.

'Nuff said. Have fun with it but to make any assertion that the software carries any validity whatsoever is charming but immature.

I should tell you that those mistakes were corrected with Watkins objection ( you are mentioning him ) and successively Sheliak invented his own personalized graph.
Watkins was the one who found out the mistake and than tried correcting it. It was called the half-twist.
