Chadwickus, you either have short memory, how easy many have forgotten the Infamous Abu Ghraib.

So sad, but hey many Americans tend to have short memories after all.

The Iraqis learned the torture from Saddam, American came to liberate and show them that Torture was still acceptable, Cheney, Bush and Rumsfled should be so proud

Hail to Iraqi Freedom!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, but why would he bother?

Explained easily. 2.5 seconds - that how long the drive-by shoeing took. A bullet would take less than .5 secs. at that range. How quick are you?

Besides, the detail head of the SS was at Bush's side immeadiately after the second shoe whizzed by and Bush waved him off. Like Austin Powers so inanely said "Who fights with a shoe? I mean really! You fight like a woman.."

The only way the SS would have been effective would have been in a ring around the President at all times. If anyone ends up taking a bullet for the President its pure luck, good or bad. Get your heads out of Hollywood.

So it is an unreasonable fantasy to believe that the SS should have been able to get the president covered after the first shoe? He obviously thought it was appropriate to try and cover him. So why wait until "the other shoe had dropped....

this was all planned and allowed to happen, Secret service is not that slow, Bush is not naturally that quick, and it was all too perfect. bleh

I think this man was just looking for his fifteen minutes of fame.

He knew what he wanted to do ahead of time just like those guys who throw pies in politicians faces..

Instead of the fame he got a fifteen minute beating compliments of Iraqi justice.

I wonder if they gave him his "rights" before he was arrested?

Oh, this isn't in America, you know some countries treat criminals, even before they are convicted, with terrible treatment. This has a tendency to drive the crime rate down.

Countries that coddle criminals with group hugs instead of harsh treatment seem to have higher crime rates.

Amazing concept, how barbaric, but it seems to be true.

Do you have any example of countries which give group hugs to those who have been arrested?

Oh I didn't realise Bush was in charge of the judicial authorities in Iraq

He would have nothing to do with the beatings and you know it.

You don't really believe that do you?

Please tell me you're not that gullible.

No offense, but even if he didn't have a hand in directly requesting this punishment, he should have known to make sure nothing happened to him to create more dissent against the military in that country.

The fact that Bush allowed this man to be beaten while in custody is beyond stupid, I knew he was as thick as two short planks, but this really is the epitome of reckless idiocy.

Bush left Iraq after that press conference. He didn't know what was going to happen to the man. Show us proof that Bush signed an order to have the man beaten or a video of him whispering to someone to make sure the guy got his.

Yeah. You can't. You have no proof - only your screwed up perceptions of Bush. You clearly watch too much Comedy Central and listen to Olbermann too much and believe it to be real news.

I can't say that I am really surprised that this guy "fell" while in custody. Whether you like Bush or not, the guy attacked the POTUS. Like I have read in other posts if he had the stones to throw his shoes when Saddam was in power he would have been drawn and quartered then placed on display.

This guy kind of reminds me of a bar buddy that would do anything short of drinking the contents of the bar drip tray for a shot and a beer. His buddies must have "double dog dared" him to pull off this stunt. He had apparently been planning it for quite some time.

Yeah, Marg, Bush signed the order saying that the prisoners at Abu Ghraib should be stripped naked, sexually molested, beaten and photographed, right? You have links to evidence supporting that? He told the military heads to ignore complaints from the grunts and threaten them into submission, correct? This was ALLLLLLLLLL on Bush and not some group of 20 something-ish military brats with a power trip ego.

I suppose if Abu Ghraib had happened on Obama's watch you would be perfectly willing to give the man a pass.

I would have blame Obama for the same crap that I blame Bush, I am getting sick and tired of the same BS been played by some in this boards.

Read my post.

I hold no loyalties to my government until the corrupted system of government we have takes accountabilities for the atrocities it creates in other countries and in our own country as well.

That means under any corrupted presidency that supports that system.

Do you get it now SOS 37 I don't kiss the butts of any political candidate nor any political parties like many seem to do in this nation

A president that orders the invasion of another nation and then dares to claim that he doesn't know what is going on with that nation is nothing but a hypocrite and a deceivers

I was also pretty impressed with Bush's moves. Not just that he dodged the first one, but that he popped right back up ready to face his assaulter instead of cowering behind the podium.

As far as the reporter being beaten, I think it's awful! I heard it in passing on the news... "He was taking into custody and beaten..." It seemed such an acceptable way of doing things there. That made me a little ill. And I felt glad that, at least in theory, we don't do it that way here...

Do you actually think that the secret service handed him over to the Iraqi security detail after they piled on him. There are videos knocking about on youtube with the man screaming in the back room while the conference was going on and Bush jabbering on about democracy.

On a side note... How can the secret service be trusted to stop a bullet for the president when they didn't even move a muscle until AFTER this guy threw both of his shoes?

Chances are they figured he's on the outs so who would bother killing him sense he has virtually no power in the next couple of weeks lol pry all sleeping

He should be thankful for only taking a beating and the fact that those Secret Service agents didn't place a slug between his eyes when he reared back to throw that shoe.

9 out of 10 times that guy would be dead right now...luck shined upon him that day because any other time and he would have been a goner.

Why argue over an unsubstantiated story in the BBC of all places. The claimed source is the brother of the man who threw the shoe.
The Iraqi's deny it.

Everyone should wait until you know if it is even true or not, then argue

Hahaha good point. I will say this though...If you noticed how angry and startled bush was after the incident it was great. You could tell in his face he was embarrassed. Good to show him that he's not helping the world by making it worse. I hope more incidents like this occur before and or after he leaves...frankly, its a little too late for this stuff to be happening...what about the 8 years of agony? Were there no shoes to be thrown then? Seriously. =)

I dont see why he should expect to get roughed up, all this guy has done is attempted assault. He should not be treated any more harshly just because that attempt was against someone "important"

Do you think Bush actually had the presence of mind to think or say " hey , there ya'll, make sure nobody lays a hand on that there youngin, it might tarnish my street cred if he gets a beatin or anything " . Come on guys and gals, he probably never thought for a second what happened to that guy the minute he was escorted out of the press room. Why should he care about some foreigner when he doesn't care a thing about us !!!

So I hear that:

1)Bush laughs it off
2)Man awarded for bravery
3)Man beaten in prison

I wonder what would happen if a US reporter did that to a foreign head of state visiting America. He would likely be charged with attempted assault on a foreign head of state and go to prison forever. People shouldn't go to jail expecting to be treated like a celebrity.

As for the secret service: The shoes could not have been bombs or blade-equipped because the reporters were already scanned and searched. They don't just search you for practical weapons when you go to see the prez. They check you for an-y-thin-g. The shoes could not have killed the president. Besides, it was a quick attack that was not expected. I doubt there will be any regulation of shoe wearing because of this.
