By Blueracer....
So register. I did. And I never was forced to join the armed forces.
Not yet Blue. It will come mate.
By pieman....
if you don't register, how do they know, unless they can cross check against another list, but if this is the case why do they need you to register
to a new list, why not just use the list they use for cross checking?
This has been responded too, but, I'd like to remind you that not receiving the reply will raise the flag on your name, number, etc.
Best do it, even though you are legally bound with your signature, you legally have no choice other than to be a Conscientious Objector which will be
dealt with harshly anyway by the looks of it.

Yeah, just ask Michael New about fighting for your country. Remember him? He's the guy who refused to wear the blue UN beret and was court
martialed as a result. He was tarred and feathered for stating it was a violation of his Oath of Service. www.mikenew.com...

I agree but the wars we are in now are all run and begun on lies...Iraq and Afghanistan, just going to mention, that this would never be needed if Ron
Paul could have been president because homeland security would be top notch and the Usa wouldn't try to be the police of the world and start
unnecassary beef with other countries which in the end I might end up fighting and dieing in. Noninterventionism ftw!

to the people that would refuse to be drafted. why not? what if *example* Russians invaded the beaches of california and they needed all the men they
could to defend it. you wouldnt defend your homeland and the right for you and others to live in this country? thats pretty selfish.

See...thats another thing if it was to defend the homeland I wouldn't mind but to go over to some other country and have the government that certain
people are my enemies I feel that's wrong. But hell, if they are attacking my home and the Usa I would be willing to fight in the US. Nonintervention
ftw!

the selective service system is not a new idea. everyone has to sign up once they turn 18 so i cant really understand why this is such a huge
topic.
anarchy. do you believe afghanistan was a correct war to enter after 9/11? If not, what do you think the government should have done after 9/11

I recommend that you sign up and stop whining. The disadvantages of not signing far outweigh the risk of being drafted. Surprisingly, most draftees
survived the experience and learned a lot about themselves and the way of the world. It is a motivating experience.
If the need for a draft ever manifested itself again, we would all be carrying rifles and shooting at the invaders. Age won't matter, gender won't
matter, physical conditioning won't matter, and a registration form won't matter; you'd be given a rifle, some basic equipment and ten clips. Some
of us geezers with experience will show you the ropes [it's called training your replacement] so that you'll have a good chance of surviving your
first firefight. If you still need to feel like you have an out, become a corpsman/medic. You should still carry a weapon and not wear any targets
like a red cross so you can help the wounded without undue attention. You will be a real hero to the troops in need and won't have to shoot anyone
other than to defend your patient.

Afghanistan or anything after 9/11 have not been but then again I believe 9/11 was an inside job...but I guess that's a whole other topic. Since I
believe the Bush administration I believe did 9/11 then after 9/11 they just dumped a video tape of an Arab(Osama, Trained by the CIA) and blamed it
on the guy in the video and tagged him as the enemny/terrorist. But thats off topic I guess.

Yay for the socialist agenda?? I don't trust Obama...I would have voted for Ron Paul and hopefully in the next election someone that shares his views
will come along and gain some mainstream media time so it can be a fair election.
And are you implying every other country has a #y army/navy/technology??

You have to register for the Selective Service because it is the law of the land. It is nothing new. Millions of men in this country had to register.
I had to 20 years ago. Stop complaining and register. We have raised a generation of whiners.

This discussion is about "Selective Service" why are you looking to derail it into an Obama Bashing thread?
No...seriously I am asking the question. Are there not enough Obama bashing threads on ATS for you to post on where you feel the uncontrollable need
to derail topics like this?

Do females have to apply for Selective Service?
If not, the law is discriminatory.
We didn't use to have females on the battlefield, but now we do.
I don't know, I remember being told that I would not qualify for federal grants and loans if I didn't sign up.

Fill out the forms.
If and when a draft is instituted and you are selected you may at that time claim you are a conscientous objector....if in fact you are. Keep in mind
that the President and Congress determine the wars we fight not you, so Conscientous Objection to a specific conflict is not valid. You must be able
to demonstrate that it is and has been your moral or religious stance that you are opposed to all wars.
"I ain't got no quarrel with the Viet Cong." – Muhammad Ali, 1966
en.wikipedia.org...
Conscientious objector
Currently, the U.S. Selective Service System states, "Beliefs which qualify a registrant for conscientious objector status may be religious in
nature, but don't have to be. Beliefs may be moral or ethical; however, a man's reasons for not wanting to participate in a war must not be based on
politics, expediency, or self-interest. In general, the man's lifestyle prior to making his claim must reflect his current claims."[23] In the US,
this applies to primary claims, that is, those filed on initial SSS registration.

Register. And keep your passport handy, your bags packed and some cash under your mattress. Or, just move to another country now and establish your
life there. That is the only way to escape the legal necessity of registration.
Actually, I think that if you clue the selective service guys in about this website, you will probably be given an exemption. However, when (if?) you
leave their office, don't go home. Ever. Don't call or write home, either. What you have already written here will be deemed sedition. The internet
never forgets.
The problem with that is that most of the countries that aren't willing to help the US (ie; send soldiers to the same conflicts) are the target of
the conflict. Do you want to defend what is right against superior firepower or do you want to be part of that superior firepower doing what is
wrong?
I'm NOT saying "America, love it or leave it". I'm saying "America, love it or fix it". Although I admire your website (I've probably read
10-15 pages before getting to this one), by and large, we have grown up spineless.
The shooting of protesters should be met, not with cluck-clucking, but with larger, protests. But they never are. So the rich and the powerful
continue to win because they can mobilize federal, state and local militias against their own citizens. Just a few deaths keeps the rest in line. At
the moment they are demonstrating their ability to abuse enlisted personnel by keeping them in Iraq and Afghanistan for extended periods. From time to
time they admit fatalities ... but not enough to get people too horribly upset. The bodies now arrive after dark and are de-planed in a far-off corner
of the airfield, away from prying eyes ... eyes that can count.
By outsourcing so much to poorer lands, they have taken the risk of a general strike off the table. By putting up a giant (and growing) network of
cameras along the roads, they have used our own money to relieve us of freedom of association and movement and a great deal of our privacy in that who
we associate with should not be logged in some data bank for use against us even years later.
Obama's election came at a good time. A week long general strike right now might actually do so good. But, even though he is a puppet manipulated by
the same strings that have attached to every President since Andrew Jackson, people will look to him hopefully -- thinking that, by 'change', he
meant improvement.
He might have ... but the people pulling the strings didn't.
Spines? Spaghetti.

yeah dude, what are you like 16 or going to college? You will sign this same form or something like it with a lot of documents around that point in
your life, I probably did about 10 of these on my license form, voter reg., college funds, etc. And you'll get repeats sometimes. This and the voter
thing comes up a lot. I think it also sets you up to be called upon for jury duty if you are registered for this or the other. No big deal, if they
call upon you -run like hell to canada!!!lol

Good luck, a lot of people try this and fail. Wasnt there a whole court case involving a young marine about this. Arent some people killing themselves
in Iraq because they object to war and their religion doesnt approve-maybe they didnt know they could just ask and get to go home. Its there is plain
type but I dont know that it works in real life, everyone would do this rather than "deserting" or leaving the country to avoid being deployed.
