So register. I did. And I never was forced to join the armed forces.

I'm a potential draftee myself. So when world War 3 happens i'll be canonfodder if they catch me. Sucks but it are the rules of the country you reside in and it's just piece of paper, i filled it in and sent it because i was young and ignorant at that time, but i'll not fire a bullet into someone else even if it means there will be one fired into me. I'm still boss over my own triggerfinger .

Not sure if there is a legal way to get out of it, google it i would say.

if you don't register, how do they know, unless they can cross check against another list, but if this is the case why do they need you to register to a new list, why not just use the list they use for cross checking?

The law in the US requires every male at age 18 register for selective service. I didn't have to because when I turned 18 I was already in the military so it nul and voided it.

They use your social security number to cross check it. Each year they will scan all social security numbers issued to any male 18 years ago. They then mass send these out to every 18 year old male.

If you don't register it will flag your SS number, then if you aren't already enlisted they will probably send another one threatening you to fine or jail time so you get a second chance. Third time I would guess registered mail so you have to sign for it, then after that jail and fine.

Oh one other thing that may still work today.

If you are an only son it use to be if you got drafted you could contest it as being the only male to carry on your family name. This use to work but not sure about today's standards

i know it's the law, what i mean is, why do you need to register, why can't they just use the ss numbers, why require people to register?

Isn't it sexist/discriminatory that only men are required to register?

They are plainly saying that women don't meet their needs. Or is it that the past few Presidents & the future president had/has only daughters?

I emigrated here to the us to Ohio, and as part of state law, to apply for a drivers license, i had to register with the selective service. I was 25 at the time. if i had waited till a few months later when i turned 26, i wouldnt have had to register. Its sucks, but from what i can make out, now i'm 26 i'm no longer elegible to be called up. At least, thats what i can make out.

and one more thing if the constitution is still not dead then how come if i refuse something like this i can be punished? i know the constitution came out long before this SS thing but still I think i should be able to refuse this.

I'd say just sign the thing. It's really not that big of a deal, if the time comes when you are called upon to serve and you don't want to, just don't. Personally, I'd rather be in jail for refusing to go to war than refusing to sign a piece of paper which might never be used upon me in the first place.
