all parties pander. Just ask the Cubans. But this isn't about pandering.

I'm sure there are a lot of minorities who think like Republicans. The problem is that looks can be deceiving and when you see mainly white people on TV talking about the Reps agenda it leads one to believe that it is a white party. I don't want any party to pander to any group, we are all Americans. But the Reps have to do something to erase this image that a lot of minorities have about them.

Some 57% of Hispanic registered voters now call themselves Democrats or say they lean to the Democratic Party, while just 23% align with the Republican Party – meaning there is now a 34 percentage point gap in partisan affiliation among Latinos. In July, 2006, the same gap was just 21 percentage points

source

Like I said before It is an image problem the reps have not a racist problem.
I know the Republicans have a strong desire and incentive to bring like minded minorities into their party.

My point isn't qualifications my point is why they cant pick up minorities, they mocked martin luther king jr.'s life long work as a reverend, mocked labor unions, and mocked womens sufforage ( susan b anthony was a community organizer round people up for a common cause for women's rights).

bigots mocked mlk, you confuse gop's and bigots, a common mistake by those of a certain persuasion, often purposeful, mlk was a republican, was mlk a bigot?

sexists mocked suffrage, again, that same old mistake... gosh, its uncanny...

labour unions? a very complex subject that can hardly be summed up by your assumption

These are people who bring unity in the community and advocate change. And these people are the people you read in history books, who have done more great to the country that any mayor or governor of Alaska has done.

has done yet, you mean. and surely much more than obama has, demonstrably...

Another thing Obama was to too young to serve in Vietnam, you my friend need a reminder or how long ago vietnam took place.

i never suggested he dodged, just comparing him to other elitist, privileged left wing types, like bill clinton, who spent the war protesting the states on communist soil

And yes I don't believe he will work the taxing class to pieces, our country has done a whole lot better with out a fiscal conservative as a president for the last several years, Bill Clinton "Tax and Spend" who remembers that argument and how many middle class was better of with him. Get a new argument i watched the RNC heard nothing but sarcasm and lies, Palin was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it, she switched sides when people started raising questions about it, and took more pork-barrel spending then any other mayor-governor of Alaska before her.

[edit on 4-9-2008 by DocHadji]

think again, he's going to tax all the bad, rich business owners and their businesses...

guess who picks that cost up?

are you saying palin listened to her constituency and responded?

thats it?

ha ha!

pork barrel?

do you have anything to support that charge?

The reason why Republicans can't attract minorities is because Blacks and Latino's (White's too) woke up a long time ago and now know Bush and friends republican party are Satin worshiping members of Skull and Bones.

Their voters are either part of or helping NWO or just the average brain washed American that still think Osama bin Laden is responsible for 9/11.

How about some change for once and let the black man run the country or a person of color.

Anyone think a Native Indian whos race rightfully belonged here first would ever get a chance at being president?

I'd like to see US run by Natives, maybe then we can grow and smoke our herbs in peace!

Republicans can't get Minorities because Republicans ......

1. Promote Self Reliance
2. Don't Promise SOCIALISM which is nothing more than SLAVERY
3. Tell the TRUTH even when it hurts the most
4. Won't Raise Taxes because that sells a false sense of financial equality

I guess that says it all.

The reason the Republican party may have an issue with minorities is because most minorities think they are supposed to be Democrats because of their race or because of their income...

which is NOT the case....i'm not white or black i'm Hispanic and i do have to say that the Hispanic culture and ideals go pretty much in line with the Republican party!...other's may disagree but its true

and for this election i wouldn't be suprised if a majority of Hispanics vote for McCain!

TO ALL THE NEOCONS SCREAMING THAT THE REPUBLICANS WERE ANTI SLAVERY AND LINCOLN WAS A REPBULICAN, SINCE YOU OBVIOUSLY SKIP MY POSTS!

LINCOLN AND THE REPUBLICANS WERE LIBERAL! THE SOUTH WAS CONSERVATIVE! THE BIG SPLIT IN LIBERAL/REPUBLICAN/ DIDN'T HAPPEN UNTIL THE CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE CAME UP! BEFORE THEN YOU HAD LIBERALS IN BOTH PARTIES, AND CONSERVATIVES IN BOTH PARTIES! BUT THEN THE CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS SPLIT THE PARTY INTO DEMS AND DIXIECRATS BEFORE THE CONSERVATIVES JUST JOINED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY! AND THAT IS HOW WE HAVE BEEN SINCE!

Geesh. And how much you want to bet instead of reading about facts, truth, and history they'll just say "Turn your Caps off."

One liner anyone?

Anyways, if the GOP stopped going to the KKK for support might help. If they didn't go to the CCC for support that might help also. But those are base voters for the GOP so I doubt that will happen.

I see what your saying, but from what I have read so far he was a whig liberal and when they broke up he joined the new Republican party. But I guess he would still have his liberal view but is recognize as a Republican..

Got a source you want me to look at....

Well Lincoln was Big Government. He was over Federal Power over State Power. This is what originally seperated Liberal and Conservative groups. Federal Power over State Power. Liberals for Fed, Conservative for State. In fact that is why the Civil War started. Slavery was an issue, but it was the Confederacy breaking away that started it. One of the main weaknesess was that the Confederacy was not one nation against the Union. It was several states trying to work together but not agreeing on how to work together. If Mississippi didn't want its troops to attack Gettysburg its troops wouldn't go. If Virginia decided not to defend Atlanta its troops didn't go.

Also Lincoln was pro civil rights. Another huge Liberal thing.

But I guess they don't teach this in school any more. Of course, the kids are too busy listening to rap and doing drugs to pay attention.

That's BS you must live in a small out of the way town. There are many sections of Chicago and New York Blacks can't just walk thru with out being beaten down. I too grew up in the 50s and 60s in Iowa as a Black Man in a White state. Times have changed alot, and the needs of people have changed also. The solutions to todays problems are not the same as they were then, and new leaders need to step up point this out and push the old ones out of the way.

Why is socialism nothing more than slavery?

I have a general idea what your saying but would like to hear it from you.

The other points you make are for the most part on target.

I think the answer is simple. Republicans preach the principles of the founding fathers in terms of free enterprise and every man making for himself. Democrates, on the other hand, appeal to minorities becase they are pushing for total governement control and dependancy, and NO minority in this country can pass up a free hand out. Especially Blacks.

That is funny republicans freed the slaves.

Then punished the southern agricultural DEMOCRATS for not treating blacks like people. The radical reconstruction, see a history book.

Oh and lets see 2 black secretaries of state

A hispanic attorney general

A female as the VP on the ticket.

Vouchers would allow the inner city to get an education democrats are against that. Otherwise it breaks their hold on unedcated poverty stricken people who vote on promises. Promises which an educated person knows can not be kept.

In fact I can not remember any positive legislation passed by or promoted by democrats which empowers minorities. Can you? It seem that the democrats are in fact the ones who only remember minorities at election time. Yeah, I know they tell their sheeple to preach otherwise.

The democrats would love to keep 90 percent of blacks to continue voting for them. So no vouchers for them, otherwise they might realize the democrats are full of well you. Without the inner cities the democrats can not win a national election. California by large votes republican except for the innercities like LA and Oakland.

Republicans are not great by any measure either, but at least they preach independence and personal responsibility. The democrats seem to preach dependence, most of their constituents are dependent on government programs. Handouts are not good for tax payers or the people receiving them. Talk about having control.

More substance less slogans and we as a people will do much better.

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.

Why Can't Republicans Attract Minorities?
I have read several comments how the audience in the Republican Convention were or are basically white. This is a true statement and I don't expect it to change.
Republicans have a real crisis on their hands if they don't find a way to attract more minorities in the near future.

Well, you're right, I did notice less blacks at the Republican convention.
Do Rice, Powell, Gonzales or Hernandez qualify as minorities?
What about the people on this list? en.wikipedia.org...
Maybe we could organize a grass roots collective of Black Republicans and call them the NBRA, oh wait someone did that already. Facts are that the republican party is growing in numbers in respects to minorities. Give it more time, there are more minority business owners today than ever before, due to republican initiated business programs and there is every reason to expect those numbers will continue to grow, unless some government party starts to tax those small business owners out of their American dream.

Having lived in San Antonio, Texas, I can tell you that there are a great many Hispanic Republicans and I wouldn't doubt it they became the majority of the party within the next 25 years.

But don't take my word for it, I'm a Federal Libertarian, a State Republican and a City/County Democrat. At least that has been my voting record and I never keep an incumbent. I like balance. It keeps them all working harder!

Ok I'll say it again. Republicans do have minorities. But the minorities are not the ones in the spotlight. 90% of the party is white. If they want to attract more minorities they need to start putting minorities in the spotlight and start putting them on the ballots.

Could somebody please tell me how many Republicans minorities are running for Congressional seats?

And as the proud son of an honorable and nationally recognized historian, getting my scholarships from two Historical Preservation Societies, one with respects to Son and Daughters of the Revolution and the other from the Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, I feel uniquely qualified to say;

Dude, turn your caps off!

Dude, they worship satin? I’ve never heard of anyone praising bed linen before, I mean I know its kind of nice, soft and smooth, feels good to sleep on, but come on, its only satin, I just don't think it is something the President worships, let alone the entire republican party. I have to call you out on this one, maybe edit something there.
