A California mother who said her daughter was 'socially transitioned' into a trans boy by her middle school has won a landmark legal victory against the district - who settled the suit for $100,000.

Jessica Konen's daughter Alicia, 11, was allegedly told by Buena Vista Middle School in Spreckels that she was upset because she didn't know who she 'truly was inside.'

The school allowed the child to use the boy's bathroom and male pronouns in class without her mom's consent.

Single mom Konen accused teachers of encouraging her daughter to think she was a trans boy when she was at the school in 2019 – only for the child to return to her female persona while learning remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite not admitting fault, the Spreckels Union School District's settlement marks an important moment in the debate across the US about how parental rights fit in with children's decisions in school settings.

The schools need to work with parents about this issue but not leave the parents and the kids in a vacuum without outside expert assistance.

The school did what they thought was best for the child because obviously the child could not go to the parent for help. It didn't work out for the school but neither are they woke nor stupid, just concerned for the child's wellbeing and misguided as to how to handle it.

Obviously that's not true. The child went into COVID lockdown, realized she was a girl and woke up from the school induced TRANS indoctrination just fine. Mother and child did just fine together. In fact their interactions were obviously healthier than the schools interactions with the child. Your statement has ZERO basis in fact.

You obviously don't know what a school environment is like, the children seek help from other adults within that environment when they have no where else to turn.

Total bolox! The school was both woke and stupid. It encouraged this kid to believe she was gender confused after first confusing the kids in the first place.

They thought they were doing what's best for the child and it ended up biting them in the end, but live and learn and next time involve the parent as well as counsellors, psychologists and medical experts because a parent, the child and the school staff don't have any expertise in handling these situations.

It's not about parent/child problems it's about how the child presented in the school environment away from the parent. And you don't know the school environment as a parent because you are not there all day.

Schools don't get to decide what is best for a childs personal development.

Would you still feel the same way if they had the power to sign the child up for surgery and turn them into whatever it is they wanted them to be?

I agree the school handled it wrong, but all schools need to act when a child comes to them with problems - how to act is the question.

Yes. The child said she was unhappy - probably going through the growing-up angst that everyone does. The SCHOOL said she must be a boy and started transitioning her secretly. It wasn't the child who said she was a boy, it was the school that said it to the child. That's how the article reads.

Well I was a teacher for 10 years, yep I know very well what question teens seems to ask most, no ever once I have a child coming to me or any other of teacher asking about wanting to be trans, no ever we teachers gathered to discuss the sex preferences of children.

This new trend has been pushed by the trans movement now infiltrated in school for their agendas, the targeting of children needs to be banned, prohibited and make it a sexual assault on the children.

Most parents don't have the time these days and not all parents should be parents.

I agree there should be no secrets kept from the parents, but neither should the parents be left in a vacuum with the child with no knowledge of how to handle the situation.

If a child went to a school staff member and told them they are unhappy you can bet there were many questions to the child after that to ascertain what the child's problem was.

At the teen stages the questioning would have been over long before that, at the elementary school age is where problems are presented.
