Separation of Church and State works both ways. In fact, it can be correctly argued that the original intent was to keep the state out of the church more than it was intended to keep the church out of the state based on the conditions when the First Amendment was written including the king of England being the dictator over the Church of England.

This is 100% correct. It was designed to prevent a state religion as England had, and was never designed to keep religion out of politics.

And what makes you think social distancing and public safety guidelines will be strictly adhered to?

Or that masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be worn and used stringently in the churches and chapels or other houses of worship.

Its a nightmare waiting to happen really.

Yes, in a time of severe mental health crisis when we have unprecedented levels of suicide it's the smart move to remove a major support system from people's lives. Genius even.

Logical fallacy. What makes you think people will stay 6 feet away at grocery stores? Maybe they won't. We need to close them clearly. Now for my actual answer, I have no interest in the logical fallacy of what if.

We all know they wont be.

Again, we all know they wont.

Yup, which is why I am glad that my church is found under a sky. But, if the curve has been flattened, it is time to let Darwin collect his rewards.

Still waiting on there alleged suicide numbers Trump was touting in any way shape or form outweighing the COVID 19 death statistics.

There are no unprecedented levels of suicide, just plenty of levels of stupidity aka opening up again to soon.

Complete ignorance.

California doctors say they've seen more deaths from suicide than coronavirus since lockdowns

The numbers are unprecedented,” Dr. Michael deBoisblanc of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California, told ABC 7 News about the increase of deaths by suicide, adding that he’s seen a “year’s worth of suicides” in the last four weeks alone.

Whether we believe Covid is as serious as has been stated or not, it is contagious and while I dont wish people to take their own life (I have lost 2 friends that way) suicide is not contagious, so comparing the 2 seems pointless

Okay...let me ask you this...
Did that bible give the power to the slave master to prevent their Christian slaves from congregating? Did it give such power to husbands when it came to their wives??
And did it not also give such power to the worlds rulers?
The early Christian's didnt build churches or scream for their rights to congregate. Many snuck around and met in small groups in believers homes when they could but that was about it. For some, like the slaves and wives, it was pretty much impossible and for all, unless those who were in authority over them approved were disobedient.. to their earthly rulers and thus to god who made it very clear that they were to obey those rulers.

So, obviously, church attendance is not essential, or salvation was not offered to everyone. Pick your poison!!

This is the stupidest comment I have seen of the day. So because people hug in church pre-covid, they clearly will continue to do it now. So much logic. People who have successfully adapted to changes in every facet of life will suddenly be unable to do so once they step through church doors. Do you even read your posts before you click the reply button?

Suicide is actually contagious. Your reply literally has nothing to do with the post though. Lockdowns that destroy the economy creates hopelessness which in turn leads to suicides.

I have 10 years working in mental health. Here is an article to help you understand copycat suicides.

I think the people who attend such establishments will be pretty much rooted in their ways.

To assume they will somehow wave a magic wand thus severely mitigate the propagation of pathogens is akin to believing in omnipotent anthropomorphized sky gods in the first place.

I read just fine, same as i can understand attending religious places of worship right now is probably not the best of ideas.

God can apparently hear all your prayers without the need of a minister or priest after all.

Yep. I think herding all of the hoaxers into the same large room and breathing the same air while singing hymns, and blowing respiratory particles into the air is a great idea. I am not sure why Trump is trying to kill his base population, but oh well. I am exhausted with trying to do my part to stop the spread of the virus, and more exhausted dealing with fools.

It is time to let Darwin have his way with these morons.

Why do you assume they will not social distance/wear masks in church too?

Because trump doesn't wear one and he is their "chosen one" that should be emulated and protected at all cost.

This is a fascile argument.

No it isn't. Anyone that has researched cult behavior, knows how the devotees act toward the object of their devotion.

Do I really need to define the difference between cult and religion?

Not subjectively, but objectively, there is a difference.

Please go ahead, and try. The only difference is quantity of followers.

In Washington State we had a Church try and hold services at an Indian ran Casino, but Inslee shut it down, now the Casino is opening up to gamblers and Inslee is saying that there isn't anything he can do about it. When you have pot shops open but churches closed due to Governor orders I think we can see what's going on. Then of course you have this realization that suicides are offing more people during this pandemic than the virus it self. People are depressed, many of those people seek solace in church activities, so in the end it makes sense to say that religious services are essential.

On the flip side of this, Trump can also being using this simple issue of closed churches and open pot shops as a way to further hurt liberal DNC members running for re-election. Most people, including Democrat voters, are getting tired of being told that they can't do something. When you have a guy telling the country it's time to let people do stuff, and the local officials are saying, "oh hell gno" then those same people will start to rethink who they are going to vote for.

That just shows your bias then. I already posted churches that have reopened are taking numerous precautions. If even after you are proven wrong by sources you refuse to change your mind because you know better then that's a personal problem and I can't do anything about that.

Dont think I claimed they were begging to stay closed. I am just saying that not all of them seem to want to fully reopen, and trump has no business trying to command that they do open up!!
