Missouri man breaks coronavirus self-quarantine to attend father-daughter dance.

Long story short, this guys older daughter traveled to Italy, she came home, hopped on amtrack in Chicago and took the train home. She felt ill and got tested, the government told her and her family to self quarantine. Her dad did not listen and took his younger daughter to a dance. While at the dance they got the news that the older daughter tested positive.

Americans can be weird when it comes to things like quarantines and being told what to do. If this is as serious as some believe it is, measures need to be taken.

I think there is a VERY good way to handle people that don't listen to quarantine orders.
You round them up, and assume they are infected and put them with other infected patients.

Ethical and legal questions are arising regarding this family. What if his disobeying orders kills an old person or someone with a weakened immune system? I know there are people that go out and about with the flu, but this seems different.

My guess is they were believing it couldn't be them. Living in denial about it.

And if daughter has mild symptoms, then he likely decided she most likely had something else even if she had been in Italy because thinking the alternative is scary thanks to the press coverage making us all think we're going to die from it. Well, here she is with a mild cough ... that can't be it. She's not in the hospital, not at death's door. So, it can't be this nasty disease, must be the flu. We're all good ...

Denial or selfishness, or being entitled. Whatever the reason, I really hope they didn't spread it to others.

We'll see how it goes. If they cause an outbreak, we may not end up in that area in a few weeks because the tournament could be cancelled. Kiddo won't be happy.

there is no human right to not get sick...freedom of movement IS a human right. don't like it? move to a authoritarian country.

so you suggest forced imprisonment of the sick (ie FEMA camps)... how very Nazi of you.

Since you think people like myself should have their rights taken away and be locked away. I think they should take away your freedom of speech so we can stop some of this doom porn you’ve been pushing.

The CoronaVirus is called the flu people. Comes around every year and kills the same people each year, except the CoronaVirus isn’t deadly to children like other flu strains. But hey facts are inconvenient in this highly divisive election year. I’d like to congratulate the OP and everyone else pushing this nonsense that has damaged many people in real life economically.

What if putting his entire family in with the infected exposes someone who would have been negative, but now you're practically guaranteeing they'll get it? A university hospital pulled the same s*** with me on MRSA. They gave it me during my last transplant; I came within hours of dying. As in it took hours to get stabilized enough to even get to the ICU, and my husband was told to come down to say goodbye. The next time I was hospitalized, they put me in a room with a person who had MRSA because it hadn't been proven I was cleared. (Uh, like, I would have died if I hadn't been.) I left AMA. Later, I proved clinically that I was cleared. So this hospital was going to give me this lethal infection AGAIN.

It's not ethical to lump in the unproven cases with the proven. It could easily kill people. If you have to yank them off the street/out of their homes because they don't care about protecting others or are in too much denial, then the least you can do is isolate them so they are not exposed to the pathogens of others.

Right. Because, God knows, I've seen all these countries shut down every year for influenza.

Why bother even trying to enforce quarantines?

We are too stupid and too stubborn to obey even the sensible and benign directives if we perceive them to impede our self-anointed “right” to do as we please whenever we please. Even if it kills us and/or our loved ones.

As proof, I could point to any one of dozens of examples, but what would be the point?

No, save everyone the aggravation and don’t even bother trying to impose quarantines; they will, ultimately be ignored anyway, and just piss people off in a time of already high annoyance.

Let everyone “mix and mingle” to there self-important hearts’ content.

The lawyers and the undertakers will sort it all out in the end.

Your rights end when it poses risk of life to others.

Also, for the 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 time, Coronavirus is NOT the flu, it is not influenza. It is LITERALLY not the flu. It is a cold actually. There are different strains, some very mild, some very dangerous. Level of contagiousness is different too. This one is called Covid-19

The coronavirus is devastating Italy and S. Korea right now, which have absolutely nothing to do with our elections.

I've never known of tens of millions of people quarantined because of flu, or of international travel banned between nations, or of airlines stopping certain routes off of their own backs costing them millions, or of a country almost decimating its own economy, or of causing the price of gold to rise sharply, or of the stock market rapidly crashing,........

Come on, man, this 'ain't normal,....

Isn't it crazy. You know that saying, we are our own worst enemy. I think what makes America great is also what makes it weak. We love our freedom, at any and all costs.. Maybe even our own grandma!

It's the flu, plain and simple. Go to CVS and grab you some Cold and Flu medicine.

Italy and S. Korea devastated themselves with the same overreaction your pushing on these boards and the MSM is pushing on the TV. It's cool, I see your endgame and it disgusts me.

YES the MSM has put all the people on respirators in Italy. The old people are dying in Italy because of MSM.

YOU CRAZY

abcnews.go.com...

But in the rest of hard-hit northern Italy, the virus’ spread was growing so exponentially that doctors were making comparisons to war-time triage medics deciding who lives, who dies and who gets access to the limited number of ICU beds.

Does FEMA know something....what's all this then...? The ultimate, final quarantine. There's also a negative side....

I'd like to think that people are reasonable. I'd like to think that if people are told numerous times to self quarantine, that they would freaking self quarantine. But no, it is too much to ask.
