Is Iran Strong Enough to Go to War with the U.S.?

"General Hossein Dehghan, defense affairs adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei..." seems to think Iran is strong enough on the one hand but, on the other hand, contradicts himself.

On the one hand, the General said,

he did not foresee a full-scale war with the United States as his nation’s military was “not ready” for such a conflict.

On the other, the general claimed,

Iran is strong enough to engage in confrontation.

I mean yeah, they are strong enough to ENGAGE us in a war.....that would last about 3 days and then their military would be completely decimated. They can try if they want to though.

Agreed. It's very vague.

In a full on stop war no, us allies would help.

However every American asset would be in real trouble. All those U.S. bases would likely be obliterated , American anti missile missile systems are average at best.

I think US will be holding back in any scenario that would play out...
Iran would be melted away in a couple of days if US gave all they got, it would not be pretty.

Iran is strong enough to go to war with the US , they are ranked 14th of the 137 countries ranked in the Global Firepower review.

Just the usual Iranian rhetoric.

Just bomb the areas where the leaders of the country are to chop off the head of the state and religion. A new Religious leader will replace the present leader that is too irational and a new leader of the country will be put in place by the people. I am sure that most Iranians would like a more peaceful existence.

I know, never kill the leaders, otherwise if this sets precedence, then everyone will just bomb the Capital and when you target the leaders. The government leaders cannot have that....they want to protect themselves. It is ok to kill regular people but not the leaders of the country.

Israel use to bomb their facilities without asking anybody first. Those were the good old days.

By proxy yes, they are the most capable, especially when considering how they proved such in Iraq.

As the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world they have proven they can indirectly.

Now, as for force on force conventional war, never.

Their military isn't advanced enough or large enough to go toe to toe, or tow to tow for that matter.

In fact, not many if any military forces in the conventional sence are capable of defeating our armed forces. Hence why they are the world police as it is.

The US could wipe the floor with their infrastructure and military within weeks. The problem is if we try to hold territory like Iraq and Afghanistan. Our ground troops could hold the major cities but rebels groups would make us pay if we try to patrol streets.

Religion is the issue since they would see us as Christian invaders allowing unrest and more rebel activities.

Would for sure not be a complete blitz like in Iraq. Iran has veterans who have fought proxy wars throughout the Middle East.

Saddam missiles were cheap and not effective. Iran pretty much has the same calibre of missiles the US and Israel have. They have cruise missiles, anti-aircraft carrier missiles, and hypersonic missiles. This would be devasting for the US fleet in the Region if they released them and they hit the target accurately.

US forces are only effective far from home if they can launch missiles and planes from aircraft carriers and bases in the region. Iran probably has them all on a target list and if they knock them out early it is deadly if they can.

Saddam was pretty much boxed into Iraq. Iran military and proxies are spread across the region, in Gaza, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq all US navy and army bases are under threat.

Its pretty much guaranteed Iran has sleepers cells QuD forces embedded in cities in the United States and Europe. There were will be a lot of attacks on targets there.

Iran air defence is not awful like Saddam. They have built an industry of developing new systems based on the S300 Russian system and may even have S400 capabilities ( this is Russia best anti-defence system) they only unknown is how many homegrown air defences have they build and do they provide enough cover to take out US aircraft and missiles.

Iranian army officers are battle-hardened from wars in Yemen and Syria.

US superiority will be in the air but it's vulnerable. Its unknown how effective strikes would be but you get a sense in the early days of the war.

Substitute Iraq for Iran and I heard this on CNN in 1990.

Iran don't forget took over a US drone in the air and landed in Iran. US Command and control and the pilot flying the drone lost it, this showed Iran has high advanced capabilities in cyber warfare. They probably going to try to knock out electronic equipment belonging to US navy and US military.,
