This is an anonymous website so I would imagine all would stay anonymous including stars/flags. It just seems too busy bodyish and in today's social culture would cause more misinterpretations and pseudo accusations of tribalism. Plus, I have at times accidentally starred a post just by scrolling my screen. Ugh. Thankfully, no one knew it was me since I could not take it back!

Good question.

The current system has worked fine for me for the last 7-1/2 years.

One develops a mindset appropriate for their chosen environment. I think anonymity is a staple of Above Top Secret.

I don't believe there is any overwhelming reason to alter our way of interacting on this website.

Btw, it must be recorded, or else you could star someones post several times.

So who knows if mods see it or not. I don´t care.
However for the same reasons you wrote, I want to give my stars anonymous, if I do star someone.

I guess for the creepy types, they would love it to run some kind of tool on that information to get deep# creepy and compile some statistic about who likes who and such nonsense.

That would be a deep cut into privacy.

I was honestly wondering why you even brought the idea up.

I flag an OP if I think the author took the time to give me an idea that I want to think about or discuss.

I crop-dust stars on people with good ideas, people that debate well and people that show they have a spine, even though I do not agree with them at all.

The interesting people.

The stars thing is just a way to feel that the community here is responding to you, for better or worse.

Then I had to click on your name and notice that your star average is 1.69.

SoOo... if you don't care at all about stars (obviously) then why bring it up?

It’s a very freeing feeling... like the weight of the sky and its stars are off your back. Like you can speak your mind, have your fun, and truly not care if anyone “likes” you or agrees with you.

It speaks more to the integrity of a post than the ego. I realize we need validation , but we can become stronger in who we really are without it.
