When that anonymous source is directly contradicted by those that the allegations are directed at, only two things can occur for most rational people:
1. The story loses all credibility
2. The source comes forward and makes their allegations public record.

Anything else is a bunch of nonsense

Oops, just last week he was embarrassed by his own source for the trump tower story he did coming out and saying that the story was false and he misspoke

Something so damning to the story that almost every other news outlet that ran the story retracted it

But not Bernstein and cnn

EVERYTHING in that is objectively false.

A) Bernstein accurately reported what Cohen's Attorney claimed. Cohen's Attorney does not deny that, but has changed his story now.

B) Bernstein has reported on the changing story.
C) Bernstein reported on Cohen's Attorney's changing story on CNN.

So Bernstein and CNN have fully and accurately covered that story, even when Cohen's Attorney changed his.

CNN says it has other sources that claim first hand knowledge that Don Jr. talked to Trump about the Trump Tower Meeting before it happened.

The problem is that Mattis has not made a public statement, Trump tweeted a statement he claims Mattis made. Trump is a questionable source at best.

This was a lie, because Davis was the source of their story

They claim to have other sources, but who cares

None of those sources would have more direct knowledge of what Cohen was going to testify too than his own lawyer

This just shows that cnn will stand by a story spread by any random anonymous source, even if the very lawyer of the person denies it

3. Bernstein coming out later and calling out Davis does not absolve Bernstein of his shoddy journalism

He and his network lied by saying the very person that was their source had no comment, and are standing by the story despite cohens own attorney saying it’s not true

And who cares that cnn has other sources that know about the trumo tower meeting

The Bernstein story was about what Cohen knows, and what he would tell mueller

And they lied and were wrong

You are running in a circle that leads back to TRUMP TWEETING mocked up statements by Mattis and Kelly.

Show me actual statements released by the United States Secretary of Defense? He releases statements ALL THE TIME. Why the silence and a weird picture of a typed up doc by Trump that includes quotation marks?
HINT Official Statements by people don't quote themselves?
And they have letterhead and signatures.
And THE ACTUAL PEOPLE issuing the statements release them, Trump doesn't tweet them.

Ditto for the Office of The Whitehouse Chief of Staff.
He doesn't quote himself in statements and he issues his own statements, letterhead, signature and all. Doesn't look to have Trump tweet his statements.

Better yet, they can simply give an interview or call a press huddle and deny it on Camera.
None of that sidestep BS where they say they won't discuss gossip or they have a great relationship with trump.
Deny they said what they were quoted saying.

These guys are trying to balance preserving their jobs with preserving their honor.

Neither has precisely denied they said what they said. Trump has, but they haven't.
