They probably stopped letting kids carry guns in their cars/trucks to schools because of events like this one happening.

Should we start allowing kids to carry guns around school and teachers to keep one under their desks? Sounds like quick and easy access for someone who's in a bad mood.

Some people might want to blame it on a President who doesn't keep his campaign promises:

On the first day in office, get rid of gun-free zones at military bases, recruiting centers and, in some cases, schools. These zones are like “target practice for the sickos and for the mentally ill.”

I can certainly agree with that. I certainly wasn't happy not being able to carry on base when I was in the Air Force. You can't even keep one in your #ing car.

Two words...

Psychotropic Medications.

They are the common theme among active shooters and mass murderers.

They numb the person from their humanity. And they are prescribed to kids like it’s their favorite candy.

Not the president. Not the media. Not even gun. It’s big pharma, and liberal ideologies that prescribe, prescribe, prescribe.

*shrugs* there is no quick fix for this, some people would say trump hated women if he personally funded the cure for prostate cancer rather than actually give him credit.

If you've been reading the thread, a number of posters could tell you about those times, and they're nothing like what you think. And banning them sure stopped this guy, didn't it? Only thing it ensured was that nobody at the school had a weapon to fight back with. Some states have already changed their laws to allow teachers to carry in the schools. You know damn well if there had been an uptick in shootings in those states, the media would be all over it. It hasn't happened.

I hunted growing up.

That legitimately scares the heck out of me. You don't even know what a semi-auto is. Either you just lied to my face or your parents were so grossly negligent it boggles the mind.

What kind of gun did you use? A pretty brown one?

instead of arguing about guns you all should be asking why so many white kids shoot up schools

Just let me know when asking why so many people of color shoot up inner cities ceases to be "racist", and we'll ask about these white kids.

Chicken and egg argument...

Did the gun shootings happen because of the guns, or because of the pills, or the destruction of the nuclear family, or (insert favorite reason here)?

I don't know but something has changed in our society in the last 30 years, that is actually beyond any argument. Folks need to sit and talk and figure it out, not demand politicians fix it because that will lead to more laws that do nothing but take rights away from the law abiding citizens with little actual effect on the crimes they want stopped.

I had the same reaction. And they think we don't care about safety. Information makes you safe, lack of it is dangerous. I wouldn't give that guy a gun with his lack of knowledge.

That's only a very small part of it. All my sisters with kids were, at least in part, single parent households, far varying reasons... I like to think I helped out a bit, but in no way was I a father figure. I was, at best, the cool uncle who'd take you out for a slurppie after school, and tease you about your boyfriend/girlfriend...

But that is the direction I think the problem lies.

Not the lack of either parent. My mom was raised during the latter part of the Roaring 20's, and entirety of the Great Depression by a single mom.

But something is lacking, or has been taken away. What ever it is has had a remarkably horrific effect.

Lack of responsibility? It's always someone, or something, elses fault. This thread is a prime example of blaming the wrong thing...

I'll freely admit, I've not a clue. Maybe a half-ass beginning of a clue...but that'd be about it.

He was never in the army.

He was in the ROTC, according to early reports. So there is no doubt he received his weapons training care of the DOD.

High school ROTC.

If you think you get the same training in high school ROTC that I did in basic combat training, then you are delusional.

I suspect the former. A case of whatever you have to do to reach the desired outcome. Lie? OK. Cheat? OK. Steal? That's OK, too, so long as the end is achieved.

Those that are not well versed with guns do not realize that hand guns have high capacity magazines.
As another poster mentioned, magazine restrictions aren't gonna slow you down enough to make much difference. I am not a pro, but I can empty my Sig and swap mags fairly quick.

Yeah I'm gonna call it a night. The gun control groupies that are in here right now have no desire to learn. They ignore new information that contradicts their narrative. Sad really. Knowledge is the key to safety and they're diametrically opposed to it. It's easier to just blame the NRA and claim pro-2nd Amendment folks don't care about dead kids.

What is the point of this weapon?

Generally the same as any other rifle, since it has the same mechanism as any other rifle. It's for hunting, self defense and/or competition. It's just black and look scary, but it works the same as a wooden-stocked semi-auto.

First off, no it does not work the same. Secondly, why is it needed for defense? Can't a handgun do just as much? Or is it because it can fire off more rounds in a short amount of time? Well you would only need that in what, a zombie invasion? Or, war. Hows it for hunting when something else that is less effective on paper can still do the same thing? Surely you cant need that gun to hunt. I mean heck, a bow and arrow is good enough for hunting. And why competition? Why does this matter?

So again, I ask you, what really do we need those type of guns for? At least access to the public?

..Competition, get outta here lol

Um, yes it does work the same as any other semi-auto rifle, whether it has a wooden stock or black composite stock. You're wrong. Any wooden-stocked semi-auto can be fitted with larger capacity mags. Even if the manufacturer doesn't make them, they're easy to get aftermarket and even if they were banned they're remarkably simple to build. They're literally just a box with a spring inside it.

They're for everything I said they're for. You may not like that answer because you have an agenda, but it's 100% true.

My agenda is limiting amounts of casualties. We can have guns. I do not see necessary fit for some of them. If there's deaths, I want the number to be as minimal as possible. Of course I'm not a law maker so this is just ideals. But that's my agenda.

Your way will not limit the amount of casualties. What limited them in the past was gun education and children being raised to respect life, taking personal responsibility rather than making excuses and teaching them that there is a benefit from being first place, that their opinion matters but not as much as the rule of law and a dozen other things that the left has forced upon the education of our children. No they do not need to learn about sex in 1st grade and then wonder if they need gender reassignment. All of these little jewels brought to us by the left are what has our children so screwed up that they can’t even think straight.

You want to stop school shooting? Taking away guns will not do it, walls around the school will not do it and armed police will not do it. Teaching the kids old fashion principles, respect for fellow citizens and the law and the fear of God will get it done.

These murders are on us all. The left for pressing their stupid corrupt agenda and the right for not stopping them.

So the guy goes in with a pistol. Same thing happens?

Did you not read the post or was it too difficult to understand? I said that the only way to limit shootings in school was to teach our children like we did when school gun violence was low. In other words dump the crazy liberal schooling agenda.

That was a genuine question. I didn't get the answer to it from you, but got it from somebody else. Thanks for pitching in.

You did get an answer. Do you accept the answer is the question, or are you going to continue to proceed as if an AR is different than any other semi-automatic gun, even though that's been thoroughly explained to you to be false? We're trying to help you understand the issue, are you learning anything?

If these shooters used pistols, different outcome. If they used rifles like an ordinary non semi automatic one, it would be a different outcome.

No, it wouldn't be a different outcome. There have been mass shootings like this one using only handguns. I told you that 3 times already and you're ignoring it. Where are you getting the idea that the outcome would be different, when it's demonstrable fact that it could've been done with a handgun?

This is the problem. You don't want to get informed. You just want to peddle debunked gun control propaganda. This is why we can't get anywhere on this issue. If you really want to see a solution, I suggest you become more open-minded and start listening to facts from people who are more knowledgeable on the subject than you.

I dont think you understand. The shooting today may not have even taken place. If he went in with a hand gun, who knows, in the time he had to reload, somebody who normally got shot today, would not have. I am very open minded. But if you put a hand gun like a pistol in this kids hands today instead of what he used, and you tell me the outcome has no chance to be different I say you need to think harder. With all due respect.

What? Are you for real?

HS Rotc is where he received his weapons training...

Wow, that was completely different from the jrROTC training I witnessed in high school.

Good grief, that's just about as silly an assertion as I've heard in a while. Since yesterday, probably.
