The House even passed a bill to do so last month. Democrats opposed the legislation in large part because it would fund the CHIP renewal by rolling back elements of the Affordable Care Act.

Trump can take his tax cut and shove it

People will have to pay for that 'cut' somewhere else. Besides the tax "plan" is corrupt, benefitting the rich , the gubment never actually cuts from one revenue stream without getting it back somewhere else. In Europe they call that Austerity Measures. Ad you guessed it, the people pay for it.

Usually they wait a while though. Trump announced a tax increase on your paycheck by 'February'. They are already fleecing the money back from tax 'shuffles' , even before it kicks in?

The Dems refused to give an inch, because it would've rolled back part of their "You have to pass it in order to read it!" bill, AKA the Absolutely Unaffordable Healthcare Act.... As evidenced in your link.

It also points out that Republicans will still have trouble passing their CHIP reauthorization bill in the senate, leading the notion that Democrats really don't want to vote for it.

Deficits and pay fors are yesterday. They can just agree to fund it now without paying for it. Dems would agree to that.

now people will use emergency rooms for care and those of us with health insurance will be paying. isn't that socialism?

my worry is that hospitals will stop treating people who don't have insurance or the money up front.. anyone else worried about this?

This logic is wonderful. We won't fund healthcare for children unless you repeal healthcare for all. Good Christian God-Fearing Americans now finally have a choice (and lets hope they make the right one) that we have to let a lot of people die to save the children! Its the Democrats fault that the Republicans are holding children's lives hostage.

A short-term House spending bill to fund the government until Jan. 19 includes nearly $3 billion to tide over states running out of funds from the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

The continuing resolution released early Thursday morning gives CHIP $2.85 billion in new funding through the end of March. It also includes $750 million in new money for community health centers and a special diabetes program that also are short on funds.

The short-term fix that House Republicans hope to pass today is not a long-term, multiyear reauthorization that some lawmakers had hoped. However, it does inject new funds for states that are running short. CHIP and community health center program funding expired on Sept. 30.



Also be very careful believing the "sympathy".
Most politicians are more concerned about the administrative funding for these programs, not so much the "poor" and "needy".
