Well that's the problem though, who is going to touch THAT hot potato?! No respected scientific body will, it's just too dangerous. Imagine the public outcry. They would lose their funding almost immediately. Well respected scientists would be hauled over the coals. Career over.

That is the reality and why it will never be studied/researched.

Shame.

At the end of the day, personally I believe that its natural. Animals do it, humans do it, we are animals enough said.

"Pray the gay away" and the idea of pill's to cure "the gay" is short sighted as it makes people repress themselves and ends in the new social construct that they have built their new life upon becomes too much and they kill themselves.

Going against their own nature.

I dont want to be "that guy" but here we go!

Could the following people who enjoy the following be mentally ill:

- BDSM
- Roleplay
- Water sports
- Groups / orgies

To be honest, really only one of the above could be worked into someones life 24/7 but.

- If you are only attracted to white people
- If you are only attracted to black people
- If you are only attracted to tall people
- If you are only attracted to short people

Im sure at one point in time, parents looked upon their children and thought they were mentally unhinged for dating / marrying someone of another race because they are attracted to them. Is this a mental illness?

straight love is no more consistent or explicable than gay, and until straights start choosing partners based entirely on the logical assessment of genetic suitability for superior offspring and having sex entirely for the purpose of reproduction and never any other time and not enjoying it at all, until then this thread is nothing more than bias, hypocrisy and fearmongering.

if it is a mental disorder, howcome 10% of all mammals are attracted to the same gender?

Therefore I cant see it being a mental disorder.

It hasn't been considered a disorder since 1987. My apologies for not including a link that explains something that has been common knowledge for decades.

Yeah, I tend to be a bit cynical and not believe everything I read. The problem is, homosexuality WAS a disorder, until the snow-flake generation took over.

I actually believe that everyone is attracted more to one sex or the other, but if you put a blindfold on and both sexes give you a BJ...let me know when you can tell the difference.

While you may not associate this with being one or the other, your body will react to both the same when you have no sense of sight. Imagine you've been blind and deaf your whole life....you would have no reference point for attraction other than your body's arousal. Homosexuality has been around and documented for ages. The only reason it is scorned us because of religion because religion wants us to believe the Adam and eve story and that we are only here to procreate.

Anywho...good subject for me as I have a gay couple in my family that I have talked to at length about many of these questions.

Hmmm...actually not true. There are plenty of animals that have homosexual relations. Ever had a dog? They will hump either sex and even go for some human beastiality...

"Being gay" is a matter of identity. Based on recent statistics, around 2-5% of the American population, for example is "gay."

Having sexual interest in the same gender has a much higher prevalence ... among males (Men who have Sex with Men) it's been measured as high as 16% of the population.

If you really want to have a discussion of a medical "condition" or a psychological "disorder" you're going to have to do a lot better in the specificity of your terminology.

If as your "ARMOR ON" comment suggests, you really just wanted to poke a commonly sensitive topic, that's a different matter.

There are far more disturbing and prevalent mental disorders that do far more damage than who one has intimate relations with ... like for example the wars and violence waged over different religious understandings of imaginary figures, which is clearly schizotypal.
