It's fine to be abusive towards your spouse as long as you made some good movies in the '90's. Got it.

Why don't you tell us why you really dislike Mr. Cage? I feel like there is an ulterior motive here.

I don't quite understand the reverence of celebrities in general. When scubagravy said it would upset him to learn Nicolas Cage was involved in a pedophile situation, I just wondered...why?

Celebrities, especially actors, are awesome. Dude.
They're all really smart, know just about everything (just ask 'em) and above all, are cool.

Especially Cage.

He's always reminded me of Bruce Dern for some reason. Not sure why. Dern can act.

What about all the crappy ones.

These are what must have caused the abuse. His wife probably still brings up The Wicker Man Everytime they see a bee. She deserves what she gets.

I am not sure I understand how that is so puzzling to you. I would like to ask as politely and non judgmentally as possible, are you on the spectrum by chance? I noticed you seem to have a hard time recognizing my (pretty overt IMO) attempts at sarcasm and the disconnect with not wanting to hear that someone whos work you enjoy is a pedo is quite disconcerting.

Would you not express concern at possibly finding out someone you like might be involved with terrible things? Like an author, musician, family member, etc?

Yep, all those childhood vaccines gave me a touch of the 'tism, now I don't feel reverence for celebrities. It's a hard, socially inept existence.

Ok, here is but one example...Gweneth Paltrow quote

Gwyneth Paltrow quotes

On the trouble with Parisian concierges
“When you go to Paris and your concierge sends you to some restaurant because they get a kickback, it’s like, ‘No. Where should I really be? Where is the great bar with organic wine? Where do I get a bikini wax in Paris?
stylecaster.com...

Gweneth talking about the casting couch. Please not the "pervasive" use of sexual favors noted in the following article.
www.ibtimes.co.uk...

Bill Cosby....family man.
Woody Allen...Caught with child porn.
Just a couple of the thousands of examples out there.

The difference here is that unlike you or I who have 10 people looking at a random post, these people have influenced millions. Further, celebrity has become a cult among millions of kids, where sex tapes and promiscuity are copied and lives ruined when those same tapes are put on social media. I am drifting off topic here, but I am trying to show that Hollywood is a giant cesspool of hypocritical people who have a do as I say problem, while refusing to out the pedo's who are obviously ramapnt.

I am the OP. Anyway, I am a retired Air Force guy who is now an expat in the UK. I own guns(back in Florida), and was raised a Freewill Baptist. Over the years I have shunned man-made religions and rely on my own faith. Please realize that one cannot possibly write enough words in one post to explain to a stranger my entire background. I took exception to the post because it was way off topic. Nothing satanic or devious.

Back to topic,
The alleged victims speak of the power of the perpetrator, which is why a lot of child abuse victims keep it in for so long. Fear, intimidation, and even in Cory Haim's case, they are felt to believe it's just a normal thing.
Also, several of the articles point to California's "notoriously strong libel laws". Now why would that be?

You mean sort of like the Church? See, the thing is, there are pedophiles. The thing is, there are "venues" which make it easier for pedophiles to find prey. People turning the other way is not confined to the Church, or to Hollywood. Or to pedophilia for that matter.

Is it vile? Of course. But it's also clear that there is a certain excitement in some, about the idea that celebrities are taking part in something vile. You, we, play a part when we pretend they are different from us.

I think reverence is a strong word. I really liked Bill Cosby. Not so much now. If Clint Eastwood came out as a kiddie fiddler, I would probably not be able to watch Pale Ride again.

*snort* yeah, right.

The Alt-left was a dig at the alt-right nonsense, and if you have ever actually been to Hollywood, you would know EXACTLY what i am talking about.

And you called my comment stupid.. Lately taken a look in the mirror? Because what does "been to Hollywood" have to do with "Alt-left was a dig at the alt-right nonsense"? Even IF we both would have been lately to Hollywood, neither of us would have seen any trace of pedophilia. Or Sodom. Or Gomorrha.

Hollywood is as much Sodom as is every other million-citizen-city (mega-city, if you want) on earth. Because there are pervs all over in every society. Take enough people in one place and the pervs will start finding each other.

I don't doubt that there are pervs in Hollywood.
I doubt that the Media is Alt-Left.
And that Hollywood itself is the epicenter of sin.
Because this title was given to so many cities by so many people who thought they were in possession of the Morale Truth and Highest Ethic, that humanity itself lost count of them.

You want to peg Germany in 10 words or less? How truly .. terrifying.. See me tremble? Really? Because it isn't like that Germany wasn't called a lot of bad names in the past (earned and unearned), just like any other country. So cudos to you, if your country is (to you) the truly morale highpoint of mankind. But it isn't.

Yes, but the church is not the focus of the OP. You could bring up Boy Scouts as well, but again...that is a whole other topic. Americans, especially for some reason, like to pedestal people then rip them down. I don't know why, we just do.
Ooooh, love the Kinks. Might have to pop over to youtube and get a fix of LOLA. And yes, I picked that song knowing the irony.

Yeah, but it came from the same direction - Sin is bad. Hollywood is left. Left is bad. Therefore, Hollywood is Sin!

Could be coming from about everyone out of Bible belt. Cliche, I know?

And what do you know about OP's origin? Maybe she/he came from the USA?

Dear angrymanfromeurope,
Just like your first post, you added nothing of value to the discussion. I called Hollywood Sodom and yet in your last sentence, you accuse me of saying the U.S holds a moral high ground? Odd. You then blanket 350 million people as bible bashing gun owners?

Your tone makes it sound as if you are angry that I didnt specify Frankfurt as well? This thread is about hollywood....you want to expand it further, please make your own thread.

I wouldn't put my money on Charlie Sheen. He was 21 during the filming of Lucas, and I would hardly call him "powerful" or even influential during the 80's. And according to rumors he has a taste for female hookers...? Sheen's family may have been powerful in a way, but powerful enough? I care too little about those people to really know.

However, the major issue is pedophilia and abuse of children in Hollywood (or rather the movie industry). It is literally an "open secret". There was a documentary (probably more on the same issue) made a couple of years ago titled "An Open Secret". All kinds of law suits and drama followed the movie, meaning it got little to no public exposure. You can see it on YouTube - Google "An Open Secret Unedited". Some of the content may be against the T&Cs so I'm not going to embed it.
It does however give a horrifying glimpse inside the pedophilia in Hollywood. You'll see Corey Feldman in there...

The scary part is that parents are just as much to blame for the abuse as the actual abusers. Parents turn a blind eye to the abuse as long as the kids get their fame. As with Michael Jackson: What kind of parent let their kid have a sleep over with a full grown man?

Hollywood should be burned to the ground if you ask me. The sickos for harming kids. And the rest for making the one crappy reboot of a classic movie after the other.

Disgusting.

Edit: On second thought. This is an interesting take on Charlie Sheen...?

Yeah, my one reservation about thinking it might be Charlie Sheen was that the age difference was minimal. He was 21, while Haim was 15. That certainly would make the relationship illegal, but I was initially thinking it would be someone older.

And you're right about the problem being Hollywood itself. It creates an ideal environment for abuse: it's a closed system with its own secret hierarchies, where parents are often willing to subject their children to hardship for their own personal gain, and of course pedos will gravitate to where they can have access to and power over children.

But I think the point is that the wholesale dismissal of the opinions of an an entire group of people based on the actions of other people within that group doesn't make a lot of sense, especially when you don't know whether the person giving his/her opinion had any direct knowledge of the situation.

The point is also that if you wanted to use that kind of logic to dismiss an entire group of people wholesale, you could dismiss just about anyone's argument by finding out their affiliations and then investigating allegations against those groups.

See, no one revers anyone here. I have been joking since my first post, and the other guy just likes Nick Cage movies. You seem to be missing a huge part of this conversation. We don't know these people and frankly don't give a # what happens to the individual Nick Cage but we don't want to find out he diddles kids because then when Face Off comes on we can't get sexy with the wife because our conscious reminds us of the kids.

No one is really caring about these abstract people who we don't know in the slightest that happen to play characters we like, we care about the moral fabric of our society and the appearance that it is fully in tact so we can go to sleep at night and not worry about other people.

Which is why I asked, not to be rude. I realize this morning that it is an inappropriate question for a public forum regardless. That I should either make my own assumptions or just ignore it. So I apologize for bringing it up.

You stick in the mud. Have you considered fun at all? Should try it, it can be ..... Fun.

I get your point, it is a horribly perverse subject, and I am not dismissing those other groups per se. There are certainly parallels with the church and hollywood, what with their moralistic messages and such. Perhaps it is just the thought of seeing the mighty and famous get knocked down a peg or six. I hope I didnt start this thread for that reason.
