Turkeys Prime Minister has changed their outlook on the coup, going from "coup has been stopped" to "coup is largely under control".

BBC updates
* - explosions still being reported in Ankara / Istanbul.
* - 42 deaths reported in Ankara.
* - Orders issued to shoot down aircraft not under government control.
* - No fly established for Ankara.

* - The commanders of the 1st army / Commanders of the gendarme have condemned the coup and ordered people under their authority to return to their barracks.

Interestingly enough -
All flights into Ankara airport were turned away except for Erdogans.

* - Erdogan seen returning to Ankara airport. (Assumption is he is going somewhere else due to instability in Ankara).

You think Erdogan is gonna confront the US and NATO about ignoring article 33 of the charter? I am beginning to think they wanted this to happen why else would the military would continue to fight and the despot is now in hiding again?

On the same day we release the 28 missing pages.

Well, I guess this is a "conspiracy" site, so feel free to believe what you want. Personally, I think *IF* we were going to have anything to do with this (i.e. CIA support or inspiring), it would have gone down a whole lot different.

I don't doubt there are people in our government (as well as political wanna-be's) who might want to have initiated something like this, but fortunately, most of the time cooler head's prevail - and we avoid crap like this.

MSNBC is saying he flew back into Istanbul, not Ankara.

MSNBC is reporting that Erdogan is alleging that Turkish F-16's bombed the location where he was vacationing. The timing is not known (i.e. after the coup was well under-way, or at it's outset).

PS: If that attack did happen, but wasn't like the very first action = by definition a "botched" queue. Cut the head off is like Step-1, not Step-3!

If anything, the timing of this takes the Nice attack out of the news.

Yep, and also the release of the (redacted) "28-pages" of Saudi-related 9/11-related materials.

Media reports the General involved in the coup was "killed" in fighting.

One would have thought ISIS would have taken advantage of the coup.

Just heard Navy joined the coup.

Its early yet. They may be trying to take advantage right now of the confusion to be able to move people around, but even that could back-fire with curfews and road-blocks and stuff.

More likely, they will wait-and-see how things shake-out, and figure-out how best to use that situation later.

I heard early on that the navy was blockading a southern coastal city port.

The government is saying the coup failed.
The military is reporting they are in complete control of Turkey.

lots of confusion.

Turkish media showing images of military officers being arrested.

Bosphorus straights have been shut down to all tanker traffic out of security concerns.

Erdogan is still reporting the guy in exile in the US is behind the coup attempt.

According to Erdogan they already did, in his press conference from the "Istanbul Airpot" he blamed DAESh (ISIS) for the blast earlier on the airport.

That 4th point you posted is interesting it means that Ankara is not fully under government control.

I guess the question is...WHICH military is in control?---The coup, or Erdogan's?
