Only one word can be used in this situation to properly summarize:

Irony.

You might feel differently if you were the victim of one of these illegals stealing your Social Security number and using it to commit fraud. It only takes one illegal getting a job in a place that has reason to ask for your SSN---like for cashing a check. Boom! They get dozens a day and pass them around to their friends.
The victims spend endless numbers of hours on the phone just trying to get information about how to pursue this crime. Local officials tell them it is federal jurisdiction. Do you have any clue as to how hard it really is for the average citizen to get any results from a federal agency if prosecution of the crime isn't going to produce substantial revenue for the feds?

the only propaganda i see comes from the whitehouse as it strong arms other branches of the govt to selectively enforce laws while ignoring others so it can continue to push its agenda unto a populace that doesn't seem to want it because Obama can't push through congress everything he wants to push through.

illegal aliens are breaking American law.

If a bookie abuses a weed dealer(in states where weed is illegal) do you let the weed dealer off for testifying against the booker.

Where did Koskinen say the following?

The IRS is struggling to ensure that illegal immigrants are able to illegally use Social Security numbers for legitimate purposes, the agency's head told senators on Tuesday, without allowing the numbers to be used for "bad" reasons.

I watched the video, he definitely didn't say it there. It's not in quotes, so it's obviously not a quote.

So what is it?

Where does this part come in?

Well, if your SSN is being illegally used by an illegal immigrant to illegally file illegal tax returns...the IRS will not only 'look the other way'...but, according to the IRS Commissioner, encourages this illegal activity...as long as you're an illegal immigrant!

Oh wait...

They're conflating two separate things! One is the illegal immigrants using bogus numbers to get a job and pay taxes and the other is organized crime falsifying tax returns to steal money.

So.... what happens when it is time to retire? Who's social security benefits are they stealing? What happens when they apply for a credit card? Loans? Health insurance? Who's credit rating are they ruining? Seriously, the stupidity of the IRS boggles the mind. As long as the government gets their taxes, who cares about the little people?

None of this was about anyone stealing anyone's Social Security benefits. In fact, it's been estimated that illegal immigrants have paid about $1 billion into Social Security that they'll never see a dime of. Of course, the IRS also doesn't pay Social Security benefits nor do they have anything to do with verifying identities for credit card applications, loans, etc. (nor does the Social Security Administration for that matter)

Interested in seeing who is actually doing the stealing or do people care less when it's not an immigration issue?

Two observations:

- one cannot expect the IRS to not do what its expected to do: collect taxes on all earnings within the US. Methods aside.
- one cannot complain about how illegals siphon off public funds, then complain about the remittance of taxes. The IRS is wanting the money, they are wanting to pay it, and we all want to see the transactions happen. Maybe we figure that out instead? Fix the problem and not the blame?

Strokes beard...

You know, the people complaining the loudest about illegal immigration never seem to be the ones who've actually lost their job and been replaced by an actual, living, breathing illegal Mexican (or any other national) immigrant.

Illegal immigration is far from being the biggest issue America faces today. It is, however, a hot-button issue because of the emotions it stirs.

Fear. Paranoia. Nationalism. Racism. Xenophobia. Safety.

"We're being invaded!" is a common feeling by those who have strong feeling about illegal immigrants.

For being a political party that accuses the "left-wing" of being overly emotional and making decisions with "feelings"-- it sure seems to me that the radical right is, well, radical with their emotional responses.

*sigh* And it doesn't even matter that illegal immigrants are leaving American in larger numbers than they are showing up in, either.

More Mexicans are leaving than moving into the United States, reversing the flow of a half-century of mass migration, according to a study published Thursday.

The Pew Research Center found that slightly more than 1 million Mexicans and their families, including American-born children, left the U.S. for Mexico from 2009 to 2014. During the same five years, 870,000 Mexicans came to the U.S., resulting in a net flow to Mexico of 140,000.

Oh hey, wow -- look a source that's biased to the right-wing Republican party! I don't even NEED to use so-called "liberal propaganda" to make my cases.

It's called logic, reason, and being level-headed (instead of reactionary and over-emotional).

We should all stop paying income taxes. There literally is no law for it. Somebody should sue their asses and take em to the Supreme Court. Income tax is illegal as far as the law is concerned if you research it enough.

Not prosecuting illegal use of an SSN, even to get a job, doesn't make sense anyway, but how did you miss the very obvious quoted text in your own OP?

"What happens in these situations is someone is using a Social Security number to get a job, but they're filing their tax return with their [taxpayer identification number]." What that means, he said, is that "they are undocumented aliens … . They're paying taxes. It's in everybody's interest to have them pay the taxes they owe."

As long as the information is being used only to fraudulently obtain jobs, Koskinen said, rather than to claim false tax returns, the agency has an interest in helping them.

It actually specifically talks about how the IRS doesn't want them to use a stolen/fraudulent SSN to file taxes. They're using them to get jobs, but not to file taxes. It was made really, really obvious in the quoted material, but the OP is written as if the exact opposite is what is happening.

Is today opposite day?

The IRS is consistently condoning (while not reporting or prosecuting) the use of stolen SSNs by illegal immigrants.
It's really quite clear.

They're saying they're 'okay' with the use of stolen identities as long as they're not being used for "bad" things.
Stealing and using someone else's SSN is NOT a 'BAD' thing?---ridiculous.

I think they'd tell you they are "ok" with drug dealing if you just claim it on your taxes. Because that isn't in their purview.

Other agencies, however, have different notions. And you can bet that they talk.
