a reply to: Obsrvrlikewise, don't expect everyone to be as uptight and "proper" as you. Not everyone chooses to sit down on a toilet behind a locked door to take a leak. Nor does everyone even have that as an option. Personally, I find public restrooms "disgusting" and would rather not deal with the germs and bacteria, simply to take a 30 second leak.

So you opt to do your business in the street?

My God. This place is turning into sub-Saharan Africa. What's next? Drinking cow urine?

What does "excercising discipline" mean in this case? Peeing your pants?

There are such things as stupid questions despite what your mother may have told you.

Actually, I opt to stay out of densely populated rat races now, as I can't stand that lifestyle. I live in the mountains and I enjoy being able to walk outside and freely whip it out and let it flow. I've never utilized one of these outdoor urinals but next time I choose to visit the city, I'll have no issue using one. The only thing an "observer"would see is a man with his back turned to them. If you saw anything more than that, you'd be looking way too hard.

Yes, because drinking cow urine is the next logical step after outdoor urination. Great point.

Good on them! Don't really see the issue or problem or why it's even newsworthy?
Or is it because of the prudes?

Me either, but -- of course -- they're being sued.

You think schizophrenics & god knows what else are happy wandering & living on the streets, digging through dumpsters, harassing/begging from pedestrians? The phrase mentally ill must not have a very strong connotation to you. Have you ever lived in a city or area with high homeless population . . .

Do the mentally ill think they are mentally ill?

I live in Los Angeles.

Conservative religious legal group suing. Figures.

This isn't just about an open air "pisser".

In 2014, the Southern Poverty Law Center designated the Pacific Justice Institute as an anti-LGBT hate group.

Screening. SCREENING. Not open air concrete with a tiny privacy curtain.

SF should build proper facilities and staff them appropriately. EMPLOY PEOPLE.

That's what civilized societies do.

You can be as disciplined as you like but it won't override natural functions or make a proper restroom materialize out of thin air. Look, I'm not a savage. I'd prefer to handle my business in private. I'm just saying I'd rather see somebody use an outdoor urban urinal instead of the sidewalk. Perhaps you've never faced a situation like this but tens of thousands of people in SF do, every single day. It'd be great if the city could put a real restroom on every corner but that's obviously not gonna happen. Most businesses don't have public restrooms and those that do, usually reserve them for customer use only. You and I may have the means to purchase an unneeded item in exchange to utilize a facility but 10,000+ SF dwellers sadly do not. What do you propose be done about these individuals?
