Apparently the suspect lived with the female victim. Just saw a tweet from AP about it but it doesn't say whether that's current or in the past.

His posts on FB make me think they had a kid together. The woman he killed had a teenage daughter. The teacher he killed had a wife and two kids I think.

Ohhhhh snap.

AP is reporting that law enforcement made contact with the suspect by phone, during which he said he "is not going to go to jail."

The US society is ill...why do these these kind of shootings happen more often in the USA then anywhere else?

I don't know that they do.

The old "If it bleeds, it leads" sensationalism media.

I expect a lot happens all over the world that goes unheard in the media.

I think that a school shooting wherever in the world will appear in the news ... except for maybe countries with a lid on it .. like china.

Does it make global news when British school boys stab their teachers? Not unless you're reading British news, it doesn't.

We, as a society, are reaping what we've sown. I don't know why anybody with a brain is surprised...

Your post was dead on Jansy...

Those who can't see it are simply blinded by the same propaganda as those who commit these crimes.

The evidence backs you up as well...

Still nothing new here.

You never realize just how connected or close we can be to something or someone like this. I graduated from Delta State last year, and when I checked Lamb's Facebook page I found out that we have 4 mutual friends. He also taught at my stepson's school until 2009. Wow!

Another friend of mine was posting that he had been spotted in a casino in Greenville, MS, but I have been unable to confirm that.

In custody.

Dead from self inflicted gun shot.

Take your pick.

Ok so, MSM reporting these: 5 things know about the shooting at Delta State University

1. A professor was killed in his office at Delta State University. The campus is located in Cleveland, Mississippi, in the Delta region near the Arkansas-Mississippi state line, WHBQ reported.
2. The Delta Democrat-Times reported that a professor was the victim. He was identified by the Bolivar County Coroner as Ethan Schmidt, CNN reported. He was listed on University’s website as an assistant professor of U.S. History.
3. Schmidt, according to the American Historical Association, of which he was a member, earned his doctorate at the University of Kansas and his Bachelor's and Master degrees at Emporia State University.
4. There are reports of a second, unnamed victim, according to WHBQ. The second victim was found off campus, WHBQ reported.
5. The campus was placed on lockdown and the university's 3,500 students were being advised to stay away from windows as police searched for the alleged gunman, WHBQ reported. School officials originally posted on the school's Twitter account that an active shooter was spotted on campus near Jobe Hall.

Scorned lover...IF there actually is another victim offsite, betting on it being an intimate partner/lover and the professor was the new boyfriend....something along those lines.

At the risk of sounding crass......Nailed it!

An instructor at Mississippi's Delta State University suspected of killing the woman he lived with and a colleague -- possibly as the result of a love triangle -- died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound late Monday, authorities said.

So it seems these two, were friends. Schmidt, thanked Lamb in the acknowledgments of his book Native Americans in the American Revolution: How the War Divided, Devastated, and Transformed the Early American Indian World So I am assuming all the spouses were friends? I haven't found to much speculation on the motive yet.

Anyone hear about the family's breaking silence? I'm sure a statement will be had in a few days.

Haven't seen anything yet, but I doubt the statement will come direct from one of the family members on either side. It will likely come out in the investigation in a press statement or something like that.

What a tragic way to lose your parent on both sides of the case....

Except this isn't a school shooting.

This is a crime of passion due to a "love triangle" that happens to have a school involved.

Now that we know it wasn't a "school shooting", it's amazing how quickly the typical gun-control shills left the thread.

Shannon Lamb, at some point, we know talked to law enforcement last night. He pulled over the vehicle he was driving and ran into the woods (near Greenville) and killed himself. After telling officers "I'm not going to jail" The hunt for Lamb brought together campus police and city police, as well as the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Bolivar County Sheriff's Department and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Lamb taught at Delta State with Schmidt. He lived with Prentiss, 41. Cleveland Police Chief Charles Bingham said: "We're not going to speculate on a motive until we have facts in hand." However, At a midnight news conference, Delta State University President William LaForge said that Lamb had taught at the school for a while and had been teaching online geography courses. He recently asked to take a reduced load of classes for medical reasons. So there might be several reasons for this senseless killing?

The victim Ethan Schmidt, apparently was a beloved professor. "It's going to be shocking because I have Mr. Schmidt three out of five days," one student said. "It's going to be a lot different without him." Before working at Delta State. Schmidt, worked at Texas Tech University in Lubbock TX. Where he received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011. "We lost one of our beloved professors today," Michelle Roberts, vice president of university relations at Delta State, told reporters. "We are grieving on this campus." So, just a little update. Still nothing on the family. Again, all my best to the children and Family.

Any story regarding gun violence is just another excuse to get the media and politicians going again.

This is sad...here is the note he left after he killed Amy. Makes me think he had thought about not killing her but did anyways...

It just makes me shake my head...
I can't imagine being so consumed (?) by one person.
I mean of course when I was younger I felt jealousy. I suppose it's odd that I have been able to move on from past relationships fairly easily. It seems to me more often than not that that is not the case for a lot of people.

The idea of love that someone with this level of mental illness possesses.
And to then kill this person who "is the only person I ever loved". To take her away from her family.

It is just so very sad all around.
ETA:It is interesting to note that it appears to have been a license plate reader that tagged his location...interesting to me at least I suppose crossing the river at that point may have been a "toll" road?
