How are ATS Moderators chosen?

Hi,
I've often wondered how ATS chooses it's moderators and then, what actually differentiates a 'Moderator' from a 'SUPER Moderator'?
I've been on ATS for some time now, and seen members become mods.
Did ATS contact them? or vice-versa?
And why aren't truly legendary members such as Phage or Beezzer at least moderators, given their widespread popularity, expertise and experience from years of contributions to ATS?

Do Moderators get any special perks or remunerations for their moderation?

Perhaps some Moderators or Super Moderators could share their experience.

Thanks. I am assuming other members probably share my curiosity regarding these questions.

They get hunted down and given a certain elixir.

Here is a Mod right before they were "Converted" to Supermodel Super Mod Status...

I kid.

They must Kiss the Ring!

Some of us shudder at the thought of responsibility and maturity. I can only speak for myself, however.

Poppycock. I think you'd make a great Moderator. You always have something great to contribute...and you keep discussions interesting.

So...Am I right in assuming that most of us members don't know the process?

Any forum where I was a moderator, I was always asked. I would imagine it is the same with ATS.

The way I understand it, it's a kind of fight to the death, like that episode of Star Trek where Kirk has to fight Spock. Some say the losers are the lucky ones.

Why did you stop, Night Star? Was it for a limited time only?

Well if this website is ran like every company I've ever worked for , then they just find the least qualified people and put them in charge.

The one time it was ever brought up, a mod (I forget who) stated that anyone who asks to be a mod will never be considered for the position.

So I immediately asked to be a mod.

Problem, solved.

I have also wondered why some become mods and others don't. I think there's the need to keep a voice of experience on the boards and that's why certain members don't move to MOD status while others do.

Great question, i was thinking the same thing some time ago, concerning their actions, sometimes.

lol...interesting. Thanks.
Given some of the Mods and Super Mods I've tangled with on threads, I'd be very curious as to what ATS considers valuable qualifications.
