Whew. As a dog lover (and a lover of [most] people, too) the first post shook me ...bad. I felt for you, sir.

My old doggie friend was struck by an oblivious soul driving too fast on a residential street and her tail was crooked for the rest of her, happily, long life.

But that "thump" sound sucks.

Hopefully, Paka will be fine and have a whole new respect for motor vehicles.

Hope you feel less alone now. Good thoughts and best wishes.

I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling mate but I really hope Paka comes through all this and lives a long, happy and healthy life. I'm borderline tears here man and I'm at work in the office...got to hold them back...makes me think how I would handle the same thing happening to our dog

Stay strong man!

What a beautiful dog! My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to you. I cannot imagine having that happen and not having anyone around to vent to.

Hang in there.

I got my dog back!!!!!!!!!!

He's going to be OK, if a little slower, and hopefully more afraid of cars now. I can't believe he got slammed by a truck going 40 mph and didn't break a single bone. I love you all and my sincere thanks for all the kind words. You all helped me through a very difficult time and I'm forever grateful to ATS.

Paka does not like his new collar.

Well done Paka

Zero, when you get a moment put the cone to your ear, you'll discover that noise becomes VERY loud. I think thats partly why dogs hate them so much. Keep him away from loud noises.

Again, well done Paka

That is so wonderful!!!!!

Wowzeers, that's a lot of stitches, but still, so happy for all of you!

Curious though, what did the vet say about his heart? Is that going to be ok too?

And sorry, but I had to chuckle over the already "dented" cone. Sure takes them a while to get used to that thing. Usually, about the time it is due to come off.

Good show man! We've been all pulling for you. Before my dog passed in 2011 I had about three close calls with cars. Once as a puppy chasing a ball we were playing with as a car came screeching around the corner, lifted her head up not second too soon to stop. Second time, the clip on the leash snapped off as we waited to cross the street, I could only manage to get out NOOOO as she bolted into traffic. Thankfully that command was mastered. Third time she jumped right out of the passenger window to greet my buddy and his dog on the other side of the street. Ford f15 slammed on the brakes inches away from her head but she still managed to get across the second lane of traffic. Each one of those times my heart was in my mouth.

You must be on top of the world.

Chances are Paka never saw the car.

After my dog was hit he was a completely different animal.

I hope you get the same results.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

This made my day. I am glad you shared your story with us.

This has made my day. The stitches - brutal! Love the photos, thank you so much for sharing.

And VoidHawk - thanks for the tip about the cone increasing noises.

Now go and have fun little family, you all deserve it.
