EU policy to blame for Ukraine crisis - German Ex-Chancellor Schroeder

Germany’s former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has blamed European Union policy for the current situation in Ukraine and urged the West to stop focusing on new sanctions against Russia. In Schroeder’s opinion, the EU’s fundamental mistake - that subsequently led to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine – was its association policy, he said in an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag published Sunday.

Call it what you may but He was ran out of town, car shot up,his minister killed, home invaded and ransacked 48 hrs before a law was active that would have rolled back the constitution to prevent this exact kind of crap,it was pure and simple an orchestrated coup/overthrow from the parliament and elements of the military, legal..AFTER THE FACT or was it?
This is reason Parliament couldn't wait for two months until election, or even two days..there window of time to vote him out was fast closing.
conspiracy? i'd say so
And the legal side just for fun:
The vote to remove Yanukovych doesn’t seem to have followed constitutional procedures. Under Articles 108-112 of Ukraine’s constitution (here), there are four ways a sitting president may leave office between elections: resignation, incapacitation, death, and impeachment. None of the first three happened—early rumors to the contrary, Yanukovych has vehemently denied that he resigned—so that leaves the fourth, impeachment. According to Article 111, impeachment must follow a specific set of procedures: Parliament must vote to impeach and then convene a committee to investigate. That committee must investigate and report back to parliament, which must then vote to bring charges. A final vote to convict may only come after receipt of a judgment from the Constitutional Court that “the acts, of which the President of Ukraine is accused, contain elements of treason or other crime.”
And this final vote would have taken the votes of at least 3/4 of all MPs (338), whereas only 328 MPs simply voted for impeachment in a clearly unconstitutional way.dartthrowingchimp.wordpress.com...

Proof of all those actions please. Pictures of the car,and autopsy reports. If you got the info from russian sources its BS. Same as western news outlets being BS. al jazeera or any other nations except western or russian. Because both those lie like persian rugs.

@ victor. Your useage of anglo saxon just drips racist overtones. And actually most russians have some measure of"whiteness" in them too.

Regarding Jews, I have nothing against them but EVERYTHING against those "Russian Jews" who looted Russia in 90s and some are still in the act. Internal Tsarist Oligarchy and resulting corruption ( people need to make "more" money to feed and clothe themselves!!) is the MAIN threat to Russia going forward. This internal decay is a bigger threat than NATO or AngloSaxon designs against the Russian state. Hope Putin and Kremlin do something BOLD to counter and crush the "culture of Oligarchy wealth concentration and resulting corruption in the society".

Oligarchs like this guy?

Putin's purported 2006 income totalled 2 million rubles (approximately $80,000).[330] According to the data Putin did not make it into the 100 wealthiest Duma candidates of his own United Russia party.[331]

Unconfirmed claims by some Russian opposition politicians and journalists allege that Putin secretly possesses a large fortune (as much as $70 billion[332]) via successive ownership of stakes in a number of Russian companies.[333][334] Nina L. Khrushcheva of the The New School estimates his net worth to be between $40–70 billion.

Ukraine's debt for gas supply has reached 3.5 billion.
For two months Ukraine has not made payments for delivered Russian gas.
It will be interesting to see what is going to happen in a next 3 weeks if money is not paid.

So, before May 16 Gazprom will produce a bill for June gas supplies to Naftogaz which should pay it before the end of May. If the bill is not paid, sanctions on the contract restricting gas supplies to Ukraine may be imposed in this case.

the latest on gas issue

If Kiev does not pay its gas bills by June 2, exports to Ukraine will be halted the next day, Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller said. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev meanwhile urged demanding advanced payment from Kiev as early as Tuesday.

Miller told Medvedev on Monday that Gazprom will issue a preliminary June bill to Ukraine’s Naftogaz on May 13. According to Miller, Kiev already owes the company more than $3.5 billion, which compares to Gazprom’s annual gas supply to Poland.

“In case Ukraine does not pay for the June supplies, Gazprom will notify the Ukrainian side, before 10am on June 3, and the volume of gas will be supplied to Ukraine in accordance with the advanced payment,” Miller said.

The French government has said that it will go ahead with 1.2 billion euro ($1.6 billion) contract to supply Russia with two Mistral helicopter carriers because cancelling the deal would harm Paris more than Moscow.

In the wake of the crisis in Ukraine, the United States had been pressing France as well as Britain and Germany to take a tougher line against Russia and cancel the Mistral contract.

But France refuses to link the helicopter carrier deal to the US/EU debate over tougher sanctions against Russia.

A French government official travelling with President Francoise Hollande in Azerbaijan Sunday, who asked not be named, told reporters that the contract was too big to cancel and that if France didn’t fulfill the order it would be hit with penalties.

"The Mistrals are not part of the third level of sanctions. They will be delivered. The contract has been paid and there would be financial penalties for not delivering it.

"It would be France that is penalized. It's too easy to say France has to give up on the sale of the ships. We have done our part," the official said.

President Hollande also said earlier on Saturday that the contract will go ahead.

“This contract was signed in 2011, it will be carried out. For the moment it is not in question,” President Hollande said on Saturday during a visit to German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s electoral district.

Russia cuts Ukraine's gas then Kiev Junta starts to siphon off from the gas going to Europe or even cut off Europe bound gas.

Then Kremlin invades.............what Kiev is conducting is economic war..........hitting the strategic economic interests.

This brew is getting strong.

Junta in Kiev needs to go to Moscow and make up for the mistakes or we will see some really big mess.

Junta is done. They have destroyed Ukraine as united state. There is no more Ukraine as we know it.
Moscow does not want to deal with them as they do not represent Ukrainians, they only represent US interests.
Kremlin is patient and will wait until economy completely collapse, which is not far away. That is the time when people will finally realize catastrophic results Junta had in a short period of time. God help Junta after that.

What many might say the obvious results of unintended consequences.

I wonder what options the western Ukrainians may have if they wish to defect to the east. Or even vise versa....

I honestly can't imagine even for a minute that this is the results US/NATO were looking for.

So what's the score now?

After tallying the results from the two proxy wars (Syria/Ukraine) I have: Putin 2 to Obama 0.
