SETI Institute to shut down alien-seeking radio dishes

www.mercurynews.com

If E.T. phones Earth, he'll get a "disconnect" signal.

Lacking the money to pay its operating expenses, Mountain View's SETI Institute has pulled the plug on the renowned Allen Telescope Array, a field of radio dishes that scan the skies for signals from extraterrestrial civilizations.

Since this is the news section and not conspiracies or aliens & UFOs, I am not going to say much about what I think, but perhaps governments don't want a non-government institute such as SETI to find more than they want them to? The article claims it is because of lack of governmental funding, but the official "story" isn't always true, so I eagerly await your opinions on the shutting down of SETI dishes.

Oh, my apologies. I looked at the first page of the news section and saw nothing, so just assumed that nobody posted it.

lol, ya because no one on ATS would report a significant SETI story 48 hours after the news broke.
Hopefully a lesson was learned. E for effort I suppose.

Bah, it was a long shot anyway. I always figured if we were going to find extraterrestrial life it was going to have to come to us.

Yeah, I agree. The aliens probably think of our signals like we think of prank calls, too. Just a joke.

Two words that summarize the article:

1. Bull
2. Sh*t

I don't believe it. It's a cover up story for the government not wanting the public to become too informed about alien-human contact.

Hi OP and All,
Cripes, mayhap's we can shut-down Seth Shostak's igotistical mouth? Told him more than once--he's just doing the debunking (EBEs are not here) stuff to keep funds flowing into his playschool, "Seti".
