Pentagon wants to create space missiles to fire anywhere on Earth

As if it didn't already have enough work in Iraq, the Pentagon plans to divert funds from an appropriation to improve submarine-launched Trident missiles to develop a "global strike" program which would allow the US to target and dispatch a "precision-guided" warhead anywhere in the world within two hours.

"The new program, dubbed Falcon, for 'Force Application and Launch from CONUS,' centers on a small-launch-vehicle concept of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency," veteran intelligence reporter Walter Pincus reveals in today's paper. "The agency describes Falcon as a 'a reusable Hypersonic Cruise Vehicle (HCV) capable of delivering 12,000 pounds of payload at a distance of 9,000 nautical miles from [the continental United States] in less than two hours.'"

i am really angry though, all that money being spent on more weapons than feeding children or healthcare...it sickens me to the bone!

This is why people hate America, all that money could be used to HELP the world.
Instead they use it for war and weapons. Just imagine a world where the governments actually come together and spend all their money to better the world, instead of showing off their muscles.

Actually you have it backwards. Since the whole world hates America, it is important for America to cause dictators the world over fear and trembling at the thought of attacking her. I'd much rather have America deploy such weapons than any other nation in the world.

Nevertheless I have no doubt that there will be a massive nuclear strike against America eventually. Woe to the world after that day. You won't find the other nations any less corrupt or violent I'm afraid. It is foolishness to think that if we just unilaterally disarm that we won't get overrun and killed by the likes of the islamo-fascists or communist China or any other militaristic violent dictatorship.

The world will not know real peace until the real Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ is reigning from Jerusalem. That my friends is the secret untold reason why the world hates Israel and America.

Anything that we can create, soon they will too.

As long as we continue to fight there will always be a war... and with war there are always two sides. We'll never completely decimate "terrorists", if anything they'll hide away and become more smart. So why fight? You could never be more wrong.

People didn't start "Hating America" until America gave them reasons to do so. Break free from your safe little protective shell of bias and look at the world through the eyes of someone who's nation has been directly victimized by the US in the name of it's own self-interest.

You don't think that site is just a touch biased? Do you want to look at the record of some of the left's favorite countries by comparison?

How about China? Mao alone killed upwards of 100 million people within a single generation! They are still imprisoning and killing people for thought crimes. Christians can do years of hard labor for just owning a Bible. Is this the example paradise nation you are looking for?

We could look at Russia too. Stalin killed 70 million or so, wiping out whole villages at times. Shall we look at the fabulous european socialists? England, France, Germany? Heck even the Scandinavian countries had the Vikings.

The only reason some of the less prominent countries don't have as large a body count is solely due to the lack of armaments and nothing else. History is filled with evil men grabbing power and using the force of arms to do so. Yet for some reason, even though America is made out to be the great Satan, people still want to come here. I wonder why? Why don't they flock to China or say Iran?

The problem is that the left has been hopelessly propagandized by international communism starting in the sixties. This was revealed by the Venona tapes. Unilateral disarmament, the peace movement, America bad, communism good was all bought and paid for by the soviet union. For some reason, like Pavlov's dog they were never able to throw off the soviet mind control to this day. As a result America is more of a communist nation now, than Russia.

You do realise the evil man is already there, has already grabbed power and is already armed to the teeth, his name is G W Bush.

The Chinese shouldn't have tested that anti satellite weapon, it just gives us ammunition and excuses. But then I guess everybody forgot about including that little specific information.

Uh, the U.S. already spends more on aid to other countries than any other country in the world. How about these countries all the complainers live in start stepping up to the plate and put your money (tax dollars) where your mouth, er, keyboard is?

And calling this a space-based weapon is a total mis-characterization of the falcon program. These are ground launched weapons that are launched when needed. They are not placed in orbit (what space-based really means) and then launched at earth targets.

No it just proves the Chinese were right to build a defensive weapon and will be within their rights to blow any US satellite out of the sky if this program goes ahead.

This plan was made after the Chinese tested an anti satellite weapon. Not before. Guess its America's right to build these weapons.

Except the FOBS system was not launched from submarines which is what makes this new U.S. system unique. Shooting missles into space from a land base is nothing new like you said. Both the U.S. and Russia have had this technology for a while.

Here's my take on the difference between the Chinese system and the US system:

The Chinese system is aimed outwards, towards the orbit.

The US system is aimed inwards, towards our planet.

'Nuff said.

Of course the US wants to be able to bomb anywhere on earth... they want to be able to terrorize anyone they want, at any time they want.

Of course, it's not effective unless they blame the targets for terrorism.
